During restoration of the 1956 Fordson E1A, thought I'd get a video of the Simms fuel rack/elements when running. Plus a little bit of the progress of the restoration!

Beautiful piping from the SIMMS injection pump up to the injectors. Your SIMMS looks identical to the one fitted to my Nuffield Universal Three - Just layed out as mirror image. Both are vacuum governed too.

Hello , I have got a question in regards to the kill switch on your injection pump.
@rickpaul43833 жыл бұрын
This looks like a power major, with released compression, lever, very powerful engine, one problem for me,the returned fuel from the injectors are in the top covers ,leaking into the sump,,,these engines never miss their beat's with the fordson exhaust,,,,

It is supposed to have oil or fuel in those pistons area of the pump?
@MGWilliams2 жыл бұрын
Fill the cambox with engine oil, it drains to the level of the over flow plug on the bottom right corner.

Who did that pump? Looks like same one I did last summer
@MGWilliams3 жыл бұрын
Definitely not this one, it's not been touched by anyone but myself in the last 30 years

Sir! My dad just bought one tractor like this one it runs but smoke pretty bad I saw a video saying it is the governor pipe Could you tell me where it's located? Thanks
@matui6983 Жыл бұрын
Two pipes from tne inlet manifold to the injector pump governor. Top pipe on the manifold always goes to the outside tapped hole of the governor case.

May I point out that the grilles on the early Majors was in fact blue not the orange the wheels were. My dads Major bought in 1952 certainly had blue grilles.
@MGWilliams3 жыл бұрын
You certainly may point that out, I have yet to paint them as they came orange albeit a very thin coat. I assumed they would be orange but if they are meant to be blue, blue they will be. When did they go orange as this is a September 1956?
@lauriepearce82663 жыл бұрын
I am fairly certain the change to orange came about when the Power Major was introduced. Circa 1958.

@@MGWilliams Attached is a link to a video featuring a 1952 Major. It shows the grilles being blue as do several other videos I have found. It also demonstrates the operation of the radiator shutters fitted on the very early Majors. I would disagree with the commentator about the handbrake, my dads 1952 Major had one from new. The high low range gear lever had a threaded on plastic knob rather than the formed ball end as your has. Yours also has the slightly canted over injector pump which was a modification to prevent the engine self reversing when ticking over. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJDceoB8YtOHecU

Was thinking of changing the gasoline engine on my F.son M. to a 4 cyl.diesel engine from a Clayson,but now have second th.,maybe should have a look inside engine first,those solitare bees have been busy in the holes for sparkplugs,not a good sign!Tank can be saved with a new bit of 3 inch exhaust pipe in hole for steering coloumn and airfilter new finger screw.colour this colour that,naaa have other problemsnext taking off rear mudguards and seat,if one can call it that,and away rest goes up in the container for sandblasting.maybe some old plugs in eng first??

@@claesmansson9070 gas/petrol majors are pretty rare here in the UK. I'd give it a strip down and clean up, head off and see what's going on in there. Put some transmission fluid doen the plug holes and let it soak for a bit etc, might be salvageable.

What lubricates all the insides?
@matui6983 Жыл бұрын
They are just splash fed by the camshaft rotating. Only hold a minimal amount of oil.
