This post explores the many ways we can train reflexes, focus, processing speed, and decision making. Along with visual intelligence, sports vision, psychomotor vigilance and more. These are crucial skills for athletes and military, that allow smarter decisions under pressure, and split-second reflexes. However, these are also traits that can benefit the
The best part? Focus, reactions, and decision making have all been demonstrably improved through a variety of interventions. This is the cutting edge of functional training, and the future of fitness in my opinion.
I explore a number of theories in this video, but also suggest several strategies you can use right now to boost your working memory, focus, etc. The exciting thing is that this stuff works. More than ANY nootropic, I have found these exercises have boosted my own Dual N-Back scores, gaming performance, and more.
Enjoy!

I just got it. Yeah, it's great. So good for practicing reaction time, mental rotation, trajectories and collisions... My other favorite game is Hitman, which focuses on very different mental attributes: cause-and-effect reasoning, learning routes and locations of things...every level is like an elaborate puzzle-box. It makes me feel like a corvid--the crow family of birds famously good at being able to figure out the series of steps necessary to get the desired outcome, even in artificial contraptions unlike anything they would encounter in their natural environment. (They also can recognize individual human faces.)

I can speak of improved reflexes/reaction speed when training for boxing and kickboxing. After a few months it became really apparent when anything fell while doing house work, I caught it immediately when previously It would've ended on the floor first. It was really cool to witness first hand.

Sorta related, I worked in a deli with some unfortunately weak shelves during the earlier part of the pandemic, I got frequent comments from my coworkers about how in the middle of serving a customer I could turn around and catch the product or at the very least bump it onto the bottom rack and immediately go back to slicing as if it never happened. I fucking hated that job but being stuck doing it definitely improved my situational awareness in some aspects

One exercise i've come up with is tossing a ball around in your hands while watching a video of someone driving. After the video ends, you need to log how many turns they took, which turns they took, the colour of the car, the environment etc, all while not having dropped the ball

I think a big skill that is overlooked when training focus, reaction time, situational awareness, and basically everything else that can be trained is the ability to take skills that you have learned from things you’re already doing (for example a sport you participate in regularly) and apply them to your life. Essentially the idea is that you already know all of these things but the simple ability to apply these things outside of where you learned them can be crucial to achieving your goals.

A practical way to develop reaction time with discretion would be to pick up a job as a courier or delivery driver. Driving under pressure of time restriction, in a 360° unpredictable constantly changing environment, accessing visual memory to route and reroute according to traffic flow, while remembering address locations and processing basic math simultaneously. The bonus being you get paid to train on par with your level of efficiency.

Videos like this makes me realize how often I do these techniques without thinking about it. Thanks to this channel I’m doing more brain training, meditation, and quick reaction training. John Wick is possible. I’ve seen people like that in my time in the military. I’m training to be like him myself every day. I am wondering if you are going to make a video on muscular imbalances. I can’t find much research on correcting them. Maybe overcoming isometrics or ambidexterity training.

Hey Bioneer, exceptional content as usual. Another themed video that I think would do well with your presentation modality is the Witcher series. Without crossing into PEDs lol.
