I've been hoping you would do some tutorials on video! I would've liked to see a bit more about the process of setting up and shooting rather than such a strong focus on lighting, but hopefully there will be more to come!

Great video Joanie! This is my first time here. I am pursuing my 2nd Masters' this time in Interactive Media at Quinnipiac University. Our Motion Across Media has us creating a 30-60 sec stop motion. I was originally going to do a Claymation, similar to Gumby and Pokey. However, given only a week to complete the project, I opted to use action figures for my project. I'm excited to do stop motion. I was glad to hear you recommend DragonFrame as it appears to be the preferred software in professional stop motion. I love the features such as onion skinning and the increment editor! As for the light I have dual Neewer LED lighting (NL660). I would love to share my project with you once done to get a professional opinion (besides my professors... :) ). Glad to be a new subscriber. Have a great week!

Thank you Joanie! This one and the hotdog stop motion video are so fun! What f stop do you like to shoot these stop motion videos in? Thank you! :)
@TheBiteShot3 жыл бұрын
This s'mores one should have been a higher f-number as the grahams are in a bit of soft focus. I believe it was at f6.3. The hot dog one I recently shot that's on my IG is at f11 which is much better for ensuring more depth.

Joanie I have a question: Have you ever worked with Panasonic Lumix DSLR camera? Can you create the same shots with a Panasonic Lumix as you can with a Canon?
@TheBiteShot3 жыл бұрын
I haven't worked with Panasonic specifically but you should be able to do the same kind of work with any DSLR or mirrorless. As far as using Dragonframe, they have a listing of compatible cameras if you're interested in using that software: www.dragonframe.com/camera-support/

I'm sure there's lots of different ways. Just depends on the software and hardware you're using for capture.

Hi, how do you price the client for these short stop motion video? Like 3x , 5x what you would charge for a photo ?
@arcecreative3 жыл бұрын
I have the same question
@TheBiteShot3 жыл бұрын
I price per commercial photography standards depending on the scope of the project, charging for my time, production, expenses, and licensing. It all depends on the project, the client and the way they'll use the work.

The impatient side of me has one big question- how long does a stop motion like the hot dog one take, from first frame set-up to last frame? (so not including post editing or pre-sketch)
@TheBiteShot3 жыл бұрын
The hot dog one was around 90 minutes of active shooting time. It was around 200 individual frames.

Color me ignorant but for this type of stop motion video, why wouldnt you just record all of the movements in a video and cut out the section where you are in the frame instead of taking hundreds of individual photos?

I appreciate that you have to pay the bills. You need to support your sponsors (Skill Share). I get that. I do. But... you spend too much time pushing them. I don't watch your channel to be bludgeoned with a pitch for a product or service that I neither want or need. Just touch on it. Mention them and tell your audience that contact information/links will be/are available in the "comments" section below. That's it. Period. Enough said.
