What a surprise that it took 54 years for ONLY SOME Pakistanis to know snd accept the truth. i was part of indian Air Force in 1971 war as an officer and used to laugh at lies and lies emaneting from pak radios and newspspers. In 1965 war as well when i was in IIT and used to notice similar lies oozing out of pak media and that and 1962 war made me join AIR FORCE with some coxing from ELECTRONICS HOD. I hope some wisdome prevails. It is for pak people to get rid of it's hate syndrome ir hate india, hate hindu, hate ahmadiyas, hate bengali, hate barelvi, hate ..... I am around 80 years and done well in many ways. My understanding is lot of hate originates from the roots of islam otherwise why there is so much in middle east against every one including jews, or in Europe, even 9/11. Hindus have faced 1000 years of atrocities under muslims and british but underwent atrocities only for 200 years under British. So what makes HATE such predominant emotions.

It is true... 'Those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it.' The Mughal rule began in 1526 with Babur's accession to the throne, and ended with the death of Aurangzeb in 1707. Overall the Mughals ruled northern part of India for approx 181 years and ruined India. The Mughal empire rapidly disintegrated after Aurangzebs death and was replaced by the Maratha Confederacy. At its peak the Maratha empire covered much of South Asia, with a territory of over 2.8 million km² and stretched from Tamil Nadu in the south, to Peshawar & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan in the north, and Bengal Subah in the east. To understand the rise and prominence of the Marathas lets dig a little deeper : There is NO doubt that the brutal & fanatic Islamic Mughal rule in India faced stiff resistance at different periods from the great RAJPUT warriors, fierce AHOM warriors from Assam & from Punjab the brave SIKH warriors...rightly did the great Hindi Poet Bhushana, who forsook the royal favours of the Mughal court to come over to Shivaji to record his glories, sang :-“काशी की कला जाती, मथुरा की मसजीद बनती, अगर शिवाजी ना होते तो सबकी सुन्नत होती.” meaning : (Had not there been Shivaji, Kashi would have lost its culture,Mathura would have been turned into a mosque and all would have been circumcised.) If not for Shivaji and the Marathas, there would have existed a continuous Islamic belt from Morocco to Indonesia. What addition of 1 billion more adherents to Islam would have done to the world power balance or what would have happened to Indian legacy like yoga, ayurveda, music, art and philosophy, is not difficult to guess…. It is worthwhile examining the 'what if' of Indias history, Aurengzeb, Akbars great great grandson, had embarked on the 'Islamisation' of India. The Marathas, inspired by Shivaji, fought Aurengzeb and saved India from following the fate of Persia. The proof of Maratha victory lies in the fact that Aurangzeb lies buried, not in Lahore /Delhi or Agra, but near Aurangabad in good old Maharashtra... Indian history before Shivaji's advent reads like a chronicle of military disasters. Shivaji changed all that. He used Guerilla Tactics (hit and run) very effectively. Shivaji, as a great warrior & visionary laid a solid foundation such, that after his death in 1680, there was a series of battles fought between Marathas and Mughals from 1681 to 1707 known as 'War of 27 years' and ended with the death of Aurangzeb in 1707, about 2.5 million of Aurangzeb's army were killed during the Mughal-Maratha War of 27 years. The Marathas eventually emerged victorious and this was followed by the phase of rapid expansion of the Maratha Empire for the next 50 years under patronage of Shahu and his appointed Peshwas Baji Rao I and Balaji Baji Rao. Chatrapati Shivaji is also credited for the laying the foundation of the Indian Navy. He appointed Kanoji Angre the chief of the Maratha Navy who fought against the British, Dutch and Portuguese naval interests on the coasts of India during the 18th century and became their greatest enemy on sea, so much was he dreaded that the British and Europeans labeled him a pirate. He was instrumental bringing about a considerable change in Naval Warfare by introducing a Blue-water navy in those times. The Maratha empire reached its peak in summer of 1758 with the conquest of Attock, which is banks of Indus river in Pakistan today*(check Notes below). Maratha Empire's eastern frontier was today’s Orissa, being ruled by Raghuji Bhosale of Nagpur. Maratha armies had also reached upto Murshidabad, but then retreated and settled for tribute from Bengal and control of Orissa. To the south, in 1758, territories upto the fort of Gurramkonda in Kadappah district were held. Also, Tanjore (Thanjavur) was under Marathas, but that was a different line. In 1761, the 3rd battle of PANIPAT war was lost to the Afghans but they RECOVERED quickly like phoenix bird from ashes and within 10 years (during the 1770's) brought the whole of North India in their control under the able leadership of Madhavrao Peshwa. Marathas also comprehensively defeated the Nizam of Hyderabad and kept Hyder Ali- Tipu Sultan of Mysore in serious check. During this phase, Pune, the seat of Peshwas, flourished as a center of Hindu learning and traditions. The Confederacy is also credited for developing many of the nation’s important cities like Pune, Baroda under Gaikwads, Indore under Holkars and Gwalior under Shinde's or Scindia's. Eventually, the Marathas grew stronger and fought the British in three Anglo-Maratha Wars (1775-82, 1803-05, 1817-18), In the First Anglo-Maratha War (1775-1782) the Marathas emerged Victorious. A Vijay Stambh (Victory Pillar) erected to commemorate Maratha victory over British is located at Vadgaon/Wadgaon Maval, close to the city of Pune. The 2nd and 3rd were subsequently lost and British established themselves which was followed by the Uprising of 1857. Thus after a prolonged fight with the Marathas and with the Sikhs in Punjab the British firmly established themselves as the de-facto rulers of India. As mentioned above, the British were technologically superior to the Marathas..and hence they were at an advantage. (-By the way, just for your G.K, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is considered today as the 'Father of the Indian Navy'AND apart from Jijabai-mother of Shivaji, the other 2 well known Women personalities emerging from the Maratha Confederacy were Devi AHILYABAI HOLKAR from Indore, Maharani Tarabai and RANI LAXMIBAI of Jhansi also known as Manikarnika. * "Lahore, Multan, Kashmir and other subahs on this side of Attock are under our rule for the most part, and places which have not come under our rule we shall soon bring under us. Ahmad Shah Durrani's son Timur Shah Durrani and Jahan Khan have been pursued by our troops, and their troops completely looted. Both of them have now reached Peshawar with a few broken troops . . . So Ahmad Shah Durrani has returned to Kandahar with some 12-14 thousand broken troops.. Thus all have risen against Ahmad who has lost control over the region. We have decided to extend our rule up to Kandahar." - Raghunathrao's letter to the Maratha Peshwa, 4 May 1758. ---------------- "To the Jats,Gujars,Ahirs and the Jats of 18 khaps or pads (thambas) or the heads of thoks and panchayats, I send my regards. For the defence of religion it is the duty of every hindu to help me in defending the 'country'. Everyone will have to fight for the defence of the country against the coming invasion. From the ninth century the apostates have made this country their stronghold and are ruling over it. There will be no better oppurtunity than this to drive them out. The servant of the hindu religion. - Sadashivrao BHAU, October 1760" - Sadashivrao Bhau's letter to the Jats and other North Indian rulers.

The Black Hole, Thank You once again for this informative session. Being a follower of 'The Black Hole' and especially Prof Hoodbhoy, I want to comment on the selection of panelists and the moderator. There is no doubt about their caliber, research, and lifelong efforts to fulfill their thirst for knowledge. However, it does not mean everyone has a strong grip or you may say command on all the topics of History. Which was clearly shown by your panelists except Prof Hoodbhoy. Similarly, to become a good speaker, firstly you must be a good listener. During the session, many valid and profound questions were asked by the audience that were ignored or misinterpreted by them. Even the moderator asked about the 'background and current situation in Pakistan', but our respected panelist replied about something else which he crammed at home. Lastly, a moderator must be a moderator, who operates all discussions according to the decided pattern of a session. He also properly receives questions and conveys them to the panel and importantly, tries to address all of them (by managing time and their length). However, today all the departments were not up to the mark. Even during the discussion, I thought thinking: the probably audience had more knowledge and stronger arguments than those who sitting opposite. However, always @pervez_Hoodbhoy fills all the gaps in all sessions. And I hope, some other day, it will again become the topic of discussion. Thank you P.S.: again I do respect all of them.

And mind you Bengalis are one of the most intelligent community in our continent, they are super smart and well educated class. At least, for West Bengal, I can vouch for, though I am not too sure about Bangladesh. But given the same geography and common history, one can safely assume that Bengalis living in Bangladesh are equally well read, educated and intelligent class. One can make out from the rapid development and strides taken by Bangladesh after its annexation from Pakistan.

The problem is that no body can speak truth out of fear of Pak Army. They never allow any one to speak truth and corruption of Generals. Bhutoo was a land lord feudal and never honest socialist. @Dr.Hoodbhoy and the panelists You have not discussed what was the major cause for the separation of East Pakistan and unending insurgencies in Balochistan and KPK. Pakistan was formed on the basis of 1940 Lahore resolution which is as follows "That geographically contiguous units are demarcated regions which should be constituted, with such territorial readjustments as may be necessary that the areas in which the Muslims are numerically in a majority as in the North Western and Eastern Zones of (British) India should be grouped to constitute ‘independent states’ in which the constituent units should be autonomous and sovereign." Both East Bengal and Balochistan joined Pakistan on the condition of the above resolution of Pakistan being a group of autonomous and sovereign states and not one nation state. If such an entity is run as one nation state, then the largest ethnic group will dominate politically in a democracy and in a military junta or garrison state the ethnicities which dominate the military will also dominate politically, socially, culturally, economically and in every other way to the detriment of other ethnic/cultual/religious/linguistic minorities. There will be push back from those who feel being marginalized and resultant oppression from those who rule the land. The way forward for nations like Pakistan and India is maximum autonomy to the states. Forced centralized rule will eventually lead to balkanization. There's another point that was missing in this discussion. There was no demand for a Bangladesh by the Bengalis. There was a demand for 6 points consisting of maximum autonomy as per the 1940 Lahore resolution but not separate country. The demand for Bangladesh arose when the West Pakistani soldiers launched an unprovoked attack on East Bengal Regiment, East Pakistan Rifles and police forces of East Pakistan during Operation Searchlight. These military and paramilitary were supporting the Pakistan government prior to this attack. They were completely caught by surprise and they did put up some resistance which was crushed by the end of April. This is when these soldiers from East Pakistan military and paramilitary forces regrouped in India as the Mukti Bahini. Someone in the audience asked about the formation of the Mukti Bahini. The East Bengal Regiment played a crucial role in the defense of Lahore during the 1965 war for which it was one of the most decorated regiment in the Pakistan army. East Bengal Regiment was defending West Pakistan during the 1965 war while East Pakistan was left almost completely defenseless. This is one the major reasons that led to the antagonism of East Pakistan towards the west. Today again we see history repeating itself. It was infighting within Pakistan military that led to the breakup of the country in 1971. Today the Pakistan military, society and politics is again divided between East Pakistan and West Pakistan. In 1971, Pakistan economy was strong and it had the support of western and Arab countries. Today Pakistan economy is in the doldrums with even the Arabs turning their back. The only country which is still standing by Pakistan's side is China, a country whose partnership leads to bankruptcy. As if this was not enough, Pakistan is also becoming the ground zero of catastrophic climate change. PS: someone asked what would Pakistan be like if the separation didn't take place. A united Pakistan would at least be an 800 billion dollars economy and it wouldn't need to seek one economic bailout after another.

A guy asked what lessons should we learn from 1971...But nobody addressed it...Point 1. Who should learn the lessons? People? But the poor collectively turned into a herd. With information hidden, religious passions whiped, they have become incapable of thinking and arriving at an informed opinion. The Islam's conditions of suppressing questioning has killed the natural human will of probing and digging out the truth. The lessons should have been learnt by the elite who were responsible and were at the helm of affairs. But it would have meant ceding space to a civilian supremacy which would have saved Pakistan in the long run. But elite has puts its present temporary interests emanating from greed, over the people and created a propaganda to perpetuate their hold on the resources (not country). Conclusion: Those who matter and those who are responsible and those who hold the baton have refused to learn any lessons. It is simply conflict of interests. Future of Pakistan is being traded for a few properties in London and Europe. Only when Pakistan has bled to death with this body dead, we can expect a new life rising from that dust. Yes, lessons have been learnt, but by Bangelis. They and moved on.

There are only two countries in the world which were created on the basis of religion, i.e., Pakistan and Israel. Pakistan came into being in 1947 and Israel in 1948. Pakistan was fortunate enough from the aspect of natural resources, because it had fertile soil and innumerable rivers flowing through it. But, Israel wasn't so lucky as Pakistan, because it was situated on barren land, a desert to be precise. However, after 75 years of their formation, can both these countries be equated or can there be a comparison between them ? Today, Israel is a first world country and a military & economic power whereas Pakistan is a under-developed third world country & it's PM is going around the world with a ' Begging Bowl ' in hand. Something to think about, isn't it ? 🤔

Pakistan and India (Bangladesh as well today) had the same problem in 1947. Who is an Indian. India rejected religion based narrative. India supported “Mukti Bahini” purely out of “humanitarian crisis”. India today is again the ONLY “previously” Akhand Bharat 🇮🇳 ideology. India have about as many Muslims in India as Pakistan. And India definitely have more Muslims in India than Bangladesh. We have always lived the reality. We value it and encourage it. But not at our “expense”. Pakistan of today and Bangladesh of today have sold out Muslims of India. It’s India that is keeping the Muslim voices alive and kicking. The bottom line is that Pakistanis suffered from a complex and sadly still feel so. They have paid a heavy price by loosing its major geographical territory in the form of East Pakistan, now a sovereign independent country by the name of Bangladesh. It’s political masters and establishment, sometimes foes and sometimes friends haven’t learned from its past wrongdoings. And sadly still are exploiting the ground situation to their advantage.

1) It is ironic that 1971 is used by minorities as an example to suppress the majority Punjabi mandate in Pakistan, when it was the same refusal to recognize Bengali majority that led to the fall of Dhaka. India is successful because the minorities there know their true place, and if they start to get violent, the majority knows how to keep show them their place instead of appeasing them. 2) One lesson that was taught in 1971 but not learned until 2008 was to never have a non-Punjabi anywhere near the top leadership of armed forces. We lost Bangladesh due to Pashtuns Yahya Khan and AAK Niazi who surrendered to Jhelum-born Punjabi Jagjit Arora. Pashtuns Akbar Khan, Ayub Khan and Yahya Khan fought three wars with India, and Muhajir Musharraf fought Kargil war with India. Thankfully, when India tried its shenanigans again on 27 Feb 2019, a Punjabi was in charge. 3) The minority needs to accept the mandate of the majority instead of crying rigging etc. Before 1971, Army Chief Yahya Khan from Pashtuns who formed only 7% of the population and politician Bhutto from Sindhis who formed 7% of population and 27% of mandate refused to accept Bengali population of and mandate of 53%.

Partition was a mistake and one of the biggest Blunder.Muslim League won election with the help of British. In 1946 election, there was no universal franchise. Not all common people had right to vote. The election was for the upper class. That's why they won.If all common people got right to vote and vote was held properly, then Muslim League would face a great loss.Their demands of partition wouldn't get much attention and no communal violence would have happened. Then in 1947,We all would got Secular and Democratic United India.

Looks like some educated people accept the truth behind reasons for formation of Bangladesh, but from the statement of Bajwa, it is clear that their army has learned nothing.

Let me tell you what Pakstan learned from 1971 👉🏽 If you accuse your neighbor of doing genocide inside their part of country, then world will believe you ! And that way you can break your neighbor country and make that part independent 😅 That’s what Pakstan is trying in J&K😂😂

Pakistan is facing the identity crisis from day one and has not learned anything from multiple failures. It will not surprise me if the centrifugal forces break it up in three or four pieces. In the end Pakistani Punjab will still continue on the same path. Pakistan's propensity for self-destruction is beyond limit...

only Religion can not be the foundation of a nation. The formation of Pakistan was just one point agenda of Jinna.

Gandhi knew the pulse of the people, Jinnah didn't. Look up their pictures in internet, find out the most common pictures, see how they are dressed. Gandhi dresses as the fakir which is pretty much in line with what you expect from a nation of people that had a below 40 life expectancy at that time. Jinnah is usually captured wearing the finest suit with a tie, often looking more British than the actual British. Gandhi also used to dress like that at some point in time. He changed that to be closer to the people he is leading. Jinnah never had that quality. Thats why he tried to enforce a foreign language on an entire race. While one medium of communication was a progressive idea but disastrous when ground reality is taken into account. Pakistan's fate was practically sealed that day only. A lot, a lot more can be said regarding the approach and decision making of these two personalities.

All over the world the concept of Muslim brotherhood doesn’t seem to be working and it can’t because before the advert of modern transport people were limited to a small area and had their own culture, they didn’t mingle much with other communities rather one community was prejudices against the other on the basis of language, life style, food habits attire etc.for millennia. So it is illogical to hope that a common religion can thread them together, it can’t.In Canada, America people still talk about their particular ancestry like British, French, German, Spanish etc.though most of them are Christian or atheist. I wonder what Muslims would achieve as they dream of Gajwa hind ? The concept of conversion or debate on religion is unfortunate as it is creating hurt and hurdles in the progress of humanity. Religion should be private and personal matter and dealt with respect for fellow beings. My parents lived in Pakistan before partition and lost many of their loved ones. Very unfortunate. When I see Pakistani Drama I can relate to them easily because we had common culture.

Paxstan does not need to learn any lessons from 1971. It was not their fault at all. You see "It waas Aal a Kaanspiracy bai RrAAA, CIA and Mossad". Not Paxstan's fault at aal. Iss program mein jo bola sab Jhooth hai. These people are traitors that they speak against their country and its "establishment".
