Thanks for the shout out man, I really appreciate it, great reaction, I knew you'd really dig that second song. They started to do a reunion tour, but then covid hit, they might be touring this summer but I'm not sure. Zack, the lead singer, and the band had a little falling out early 2000s, but the other three band members stayed together. They hooked up with Chris Cornell from Sound Garden and did 3 albums as Audio Slave, then for a short time after Chris parted ways, they got B-Real from Cypress Hill and Chuck D from Public Enemy to be their frontmen, and put an album out as Prophets of Rage. Zack did a track with KRS-One and some other solo stuff, and a little later he met and became friends with Killer Mike and is on at least two Run The Jewels tracks as a feature. Thanks again man!! ✌💚

@@sunshynff Maaaan you just took me down the most nostalgic tour of hip hop that I could imagine. That is a damn journey, and wait they were Audio Slave? I know that group (at least a bit of the songs) and never pieced that together for some reason. Probably just wasn't paying attention. But you're very welcome man, and I really appreciate you for donating and supporting. That's the kind of help I need to keep this going and it wasn't received lightly. I'm glad you liked the react and I could do it justice for you. They were fire tracks and videos and it brought me back to my Mississippi days as a kid heh. I appreciated that thought.

Yep, Rage still lives out their beliefs. Tom and Zack regularly attend protests for union workers and pro-Palestine events. Anyone who says they rage “for” the machine now never understood their message.

I know right!!!!??? Because they are making money off the art they created? What the record executives and record companies should get all the money? Back in the 90’s you had to have a record deal to get your stuff out. There was no internet, a record deal or no deal.

I work at a lab in a hospital, and I regularly keep music playing. I had “How I Could Just Kill a Man” from Cypress playing, and the patient asked who did this cover. I said that it’s Cypress Hill, and they’re the ones who originally recorded it, but that I did happen to have a cover from Rage on my phone as well. Turned out she thought Rage did it originally. I explained that the entire album “Renegades” was covers. I guess she didn’t know.

Yeah I was going to say, I feel like a lot of people don't know that, and it's always funny when a cover can end up replacing the original because of timing, popularity, and skill. And a wealth of other factors. Cypress' is the timeless classic to me tho, even though Rage's cover is a certified banger.

I hate to say that I had this conversation with my ex wife. I always had music on and she heard the CH version playing and asked me about it. I ended up telling her the original release date and etc. She also did not realize the Minor Threat cover or that Renegades of Funk was Afrika Bambaataa - but hey, music is much more important to some of us then others.

I always like RATM and their leftist (socialist)-based politics. It’s because of them that I’ve learned about the Zapatistas and changed my views from authoritarian(Marxist-Leninist) to that of a more libertarian socialist/anarchist-like approach to my politics, and it’s because of them that I learned about cool societies like, obviously, the Zapatistas but also Rojava and FEJUVE as well. Music is not only entertaining but also educational as well.

It’s important to note, I think, that the political divide that Rage is against isn’t D v R. Both are capitalists and fascist. They protested the Democratic National Convention. Not the Republicans. The machine they’re against is capitalism. Both major parties in the US support capitalism. They’re specifically against the exploitation of the oppressed. Capitalism.

At the very beginning of this song they're playing the main beat from Led Zeppelin's 'Kashmir', which is super famous & many rappers have sampled it. Most famously P Diddy used it for Come With Me for the Godzilla movie, but Kurtis Blow (OG fr the 80s), Beyonce & others have also used it, too.
@elbruces

It's the same rhythm pattern, but it's not sampled. RAtM never puts on any sounds that don't come out of their instruments or voices.

@@elbruces Yes, agreed. I made sure not to say they sampled it, just played it. I do agree there's a distinction, although I'm not anti-sampling as long as the original artists gets paid. It brings that music to the next generations. But no, RATM wasn't a sampling kind of band.

I’ll take Rage Against the Machine over anyone any day! And it’s sad it’s awful that their lyrics are just as relevant today because what changes? Nothing changes and it seems to be getting worse and it pisses me off and I find myself going back to rage like I did years ago. Now nothing against Taylor Swift. My daughter loves her, but if you want some truth, put on Rage Against the Machine. The same idiots that use rage because I don’t know for some stupid reason they don’t understand them and they think they’re on their side are the same people who take one line out of Martin Luther King Jr. speech and make that one line into anything they want, God forbid they ever listen to an entire speech. If they did, maybe they would learn something. that’s funny that I think they would learn something, they’ll never learn. They’ll always be awful.
