First, I really do enjoy your content. Thank you for publishing it. You are often confused on when to use “die” (singular) vs. “dice” (plural). Just mentally replace “die” with “bear” and “dice” with “bears”. For example, at 23:50 “… you have your dice [bears] (your family dice [bears]) and then you have 4 town dice [bears] and you are using all 6 of those dice [bears]….”

It’s good to see you’re a fellow fan of Calico and you’re giving it some attention. I really like it. I think the frustrations you mention are actually a strength of it, they’re part of the challenge - it would be too easy if you always got the tiles you need! And there’s no need to question yourself for playing on BGA. I think playing on there is perfectly valid. BGA has been a godsend since I discovered it, so many games to try, and I think it’s good that people play games no matter whether online or offline 🙂

Great selection of solo games! I also love Castles of Burgundy. Cascadia is currently my favorite solo game for this year. If you want to try another worker placement challenge, maybe try Architects of the West Kingdom solo. Also, if you have the chance, maybe you'd like It's a wonderful world's solo mode. It is hard but so satisfying when you manage to build a good engine.

Interesting solo list. I backed Castles of Burgundy on Gamefound as I felt like it's a notable one I didn't want to miss. I kinda jumped into more advanced stuff to learn worker placement before I heard of Viti Culture. Enjoying clans of Caledonia solo, Mage Knight, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Dice Theme Park currently. Spirit Island is on my bucket list. Everdell complete collection is a wait for shipping notification now, and Nightmare Cathedral will ship next year. I got the Arkham Horror LCG revised core set last October, but I'm really struggling to teach myself how to play. It took me a half hour just to organize the cards.

I'm with you on Castles. I'm VERY late to the party has I remember everyone gushing over it and I was like 'meh...it's fine' and then after playing it a couple times on BGA: it clicked. And now I play it a LOT. I can only handle one game at a time on there, but WOW. I feel the same as you on the top 20...it's moved into my top 10 and probably higher now. Like I said: I feel like a moron for not understanding it sooner, but it's perfection. Scythe is the same way for me on efficiency, but this feels more pure and distilled.

How much I struggle with scenario n.5 of Cascadia! Like you, I don't usually go for foxes and I really had to work on a different strategy with this one (I only made it after five tries 😅). Awesome game, needless to say, together with Paleo probably one of the best board game recently released - and way better than Calico in my opinion, which lacks a bit that positive tension that strikes in the final rounds (you basically just end up waiting and waiting and waiting for the right tile, punctually stole by the person sitting before you 🤣). Anyway, love your "solo" videos: I'm totally aligned with your tastes and I always listen carefully to any of your suggestion (as a matter of fact I just ordered Cartographers + exp and next it will be Hadrian's Wall!). 6:02 I completely agree with you! I prefer games which give you a little nudge and push you in a certain direction strategically, in comparison to “sandbox” games which tell you to do whatever you want - and then I have no idea what to do.

Picked up Titan from Holy Grail Games at Essen Spiel, and Dulce as well which both have solo modes. Looking to trying out Uwe's Reykholt as well. Its good to see more and more games supporting a solo campaign mode.

YAY loved hearing your final thoughts on Creature Comforts!! I 100% felt the same. Isle of cats was ironically one of the first solos I tried, and tbh it’s part of the reason I have a mini fear of learning solo rules 😆😆 Also I’m very much like you- even if a board game on the table feels very easy, the second it’s virtual / on BGA I get a little confused!! (Re/ viticulture) Looking forward to trying more solos this month myself!! :) Viticulture & Castles of Burgundy are next up!!!

Hi Jenna! Here we enjoy a beautiful Indian Summer, I'm wearing a summer dress, sitting on my deck chair on the terrace with my little kittens! 😻 At the moment, Twilight Inscription is all the rage! It's a kind of 4X expert roll n' write (of flip n' write? I don't remember) using four plasticized sheets. I don't know if it's already in the shops now in Canada. However, I won't buy it, it's an expensive game, and I'm not much in space things. It doesn't attract me. Cascadia is always a sure value !!! I love this game too! As well as Calico!😊 It's a bit more tricky than Cascadia, we don't have all that space to put our tiles, but that's what I like (my scores are never very good, but I'm happy when I accomplish successful combinations ! (for example, gathering all the buttons!). And the material is so cute! I never played Castles of Burgundy; I have the Cards version which is funny! It was one of my first games. And finally, as I'm a weak woman, I pre-ordered Dog Park! (It will be part of my Xmas presents) Someone said that it's not a game for game lovers, but it's a game for dog lovers! Also that it feels like a mix between Parks and Wingspan, (with more than 200 dog cards). How could I resist? ^^ A bit expensive however. I am doing what I am calling a 30x30 solo challenge - 30 games, 30 times. In September, I played Empires of the North (this one I am doing a 100 Play challenge of), Wingspan, Everdell, Sagrada, Imperial Settlers: Roll & Write, Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition, Teotihuacan, Concordia: Solitaria, Fields of Green, Tapestry, Anno 1800, Legendary: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Orleans (using the Invasion expansion), The Pursuit of Happiness, Three Sisters, The Guild of Merchant Explorers, Rune Stones, Blackout: Hong Kong, and Grand Austria Hotel. Not all of these games are on my 30x30 challenge list, but the vast majority of them are. I love Calico, but I am so bad at it! I have yet to beat the first scenario. Have you tried the 2-player variance variant? I also very much enjoy Creature Comforts and it is on my 30x30 list as is Calico.

@@TheBoardGameGarden Yeah, the 2-player variance variant is almost buried in the rulebook for Calico. It is just before the rules for the solo play if I recall correctly. You basically just take out 1 set of each of the colors of tiles.

Have most of the games you mentioned and I love Calico,Creature Comforts and Isles of Cats the best here. How about HoeyBuzz a d Juicy Fruits ,they are great fun,too. it is really annoying that I have so many games waiting to be unwrapped and played! A very impatient solo player but I love board games 😊

Creature Comforts is great! Absolutely love it. 🥰 I have played Flamecraft solo and I'll be talking about it in the solo video next month! And thanks for letting me know about the B-roll. I just looked back and to me it looks smooth. It may just be the speed. It is slowed down a bit and that may start to look jumpy if you stare long enough. Sorry about that! 18:05 You see, I love how constraining and restrictive Calico is - again, it is a game which pushes me in a certain direction, because of the restrictions - which is why I like Calico more than Cascadia. When I am playing Cascadia, I feel overwhelmed with all the possible choices - and do not know what the best option is.

I don't like the Isle of cats solo variant, I think it's more about what cats to NOT use instead of what cats to use. But Explore and draw I love, because I can just play for highscore and not use the sister. Tried to mash them up so I could use the pretty cat tiles and the big boats instead of the laminated sheat and pens.

I've just started the Hadrian's wall campaign, it's tough! I played a ton of Welcome to the Moon this month, I'm hoping to finish my first solo campaign tonight 😃 It's been a phenomenal experience, it has probably reached the top of my list of solo games. Have you done a campaign of that yet?
