Okay guys, here's the thing Je l'aime à mourir originally is a french song singed by "Francis Cabrel". Besides there exists a song translated to spanish by "Jarabe de Palo" (a spanish group). Shakira combine this 2 versions and sings parts in spanish and another parts in french. Please react to "Illegal" by shakira, it's one of the biggest singles forgotten by everyone. Edit: Another fact is if you see, in the title of the video, this performance was recorded in Paris (France) that's why people in the middle of the song start to cheering and scream, she swipe from spanish to french and the french audience realize and then gets excited

Actually, the Spanish version was singing first too by Francis Cabrel. Besides, in Latinoamerica we know more the DLG and Jarabe de Palo versions.

As Andrés said, the most well known Spanish version are the one sang by Francis Cabrel himself, and the salsa version by DLG. The Jarabe de Palo version was much later. EDIT: Actually earlier than the salsa version it's the merengue version sang by Sergio Vargas, which is the one I knew when I was a kid.

Jajaja It's not like "I love her to death" The literall translation is right "to death" but "A morir" is an spanish expression that also works for all latin languages that means more like "against everything" in english (I love her against everything) The original song is in french, but the same original artist made a spanish version that was really popular in Spain, in Colombia and all Latinamerica in general, that's why she decided to made that brilliant mix live in Paris. Je l’aime à mourir is a song by French singer Francis Cabrel. The Spanish version was sang by Sergio Vargas, a merengue singer. Shakiras’s version, which contains both versions, was a homage to Cabrel and she sang it just in Paris during her Sale el sol Tour European leg. She made a version of this antique french song in spanish for her "the sun comes out" record, so in Paris she started to sing in spanish (her version) and continues in french with the original version, beacuse that concert is in France. Hi, I´m colombian. Just to give you a different view of Shakira. You know she was very popular in COlombia and LATAM before go to USA and become internationally recognized. Well....She was different, basically a different kind of music, closer to this kind of song, author´s songs mixing rock-pop, jazz, reggue and caibeean rythms. After this stage Shakira transform her self, now is blonde, she dances a lot and ...is a completely different product, not bad I think and I would say most people in Latam think the same. Yes , maybe is the biggest colombian star in the world, but currently is more focused in show something that is not so interesting for colombians. I mean dancing is not rare here even in Shakira level. Anyway Shakira is great.

That's a french song, but she sang it both in Spanish and French. Actually, the Spanish portion lyrics are from DLG's salsa versión from the 90s "La quiero a morir" (check it out, it's a cool song). When you guys mentioned no one else translating their songs into other languages, I remembered Christina Aguilera's second album was in Spanish and it had Spanish versions of her first album's songs (meaning, genie in a bottle, what a girl wants, come on over, reflection, etc.).
