Hi Nigel! That black sooty mold is actually a aphid! It’s called “Soot aphid” it’s name is fitting of its symptoms! Hope that helps :) definitely good idea to get soapy water on it

Hey Nigel! Hope you’re having a good day, I’d suggest putting ficus plain in a one gallon with bonsai soil and let it grow into it; she doesn’t look all that happy compared to fancy… perhaps she just needs to stretch a little. :)

Now Ficus Fancy is a tree and a half. This is some meticulous pruning done on this tree. Part 2 will be interesting. Great patience in pruning this tree with a great eye for detail.

Those scale bugs are little bastards! I've had a lot of luck getting rid of scale and mealybugs using the mint Dr. Bronner's soap and/or Trifecta Crop Control sprays. Ficus trees seem to tolerate organic oil sprays fairly well.

Sooty mold is from white flies

Nigel, please don't give the ficus leaves to any animal, the white sap is toxic for them.
