It's been really cool seeing the progression of this forest. Every time I think it's at a point that it couldn't get any more convincing you deliver just a few little extra touches of nuance that when combined really ramp up the immersion. Ryan Neil said it well when he said something along the lines of "nuance built on nuance built on nuance eventually unfolds into an entirely new perspective". It's been nice seeing the way this piece has evolved and the timing of the updates is a comfortable pace too.

Nigel / All Question. I have about 10 or so Japanese Maples (not sure the specific type) that i grew from seed in the spring. They are all about 3 inches tall, and have not grown at all in the past 3 months. I have moved some to more shade, some to more sun, and neither group has grown any. I have tried watering more and less, no growth. I fertilize and still no growth. Any suggestions on what i should try next? Thanks in advance.

Your Avatar grove is looking fantastic! Your videos are helpful as I create a forest scene. I always learn something new when I watch your videos. Gives me a different perspective on my own plants. I was hoping that you were going to use the totem in the planting. Perhaps you'll us it in another. How on earth did you get that caterpillar to make a cameo? Must have been tough. LOL Can't wait for the next video.......Thanks, Nigel, for sharing such good substantive videos on bonsai.

I love it!!! The only thing that catches my eye in a negative way is the dead branch behind the biggest tree. Its at nearly a right angle to the big tree. If you are so inclined i would angle it gently down or up the slope. Also it would be nice to hear from you in the comments once in awhile. But i understand that you are probably really busy. Thanks for all the videos!!
@TheBonsaiZone6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'll play around with the branch and see if I can find a different look for it. I haven't had much time lately, I just got my daughter off to university and I'm working hard on my show trees! I'll try and catch up on the comments, I love to hear from everyone, it makes my day!

Hey Nigel. Just curious, how do you know when to water your trees if moss covers the soil?
@MrTributes6 жыл бұрын
if you wanted to, you could just pull the moss up and check under it, then just lay it back down. it dosnt have a root system that will be damaged.. nigel may have a better answer tho.

Is it plucking or pinching I don't understand the technique

I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I'm new to bonsai and have an apple tree sapling about 7" in length with a thin trunk. I am wanting for it to develop a break in the trunk where the trunk splits then rejoins later, forming a hole through the trunk, however I cannot seem to find any help about doing this online. Can someone please help me out? Thanks :)
@TheBonsaiZone6 жыл бұрын
It would be best to pinch the top. This would cause the trunk to divide into two branches. Let the branches grow, form them around a Styrofoam ball and let the top of the branches fuse together using a grafting technique. As the tree grows and thickens, the join will become invisible.
