Howdy Boss! I am 70 years old and all of my hunting/camping/survival gear is less than $1,000.00 dollars and most of it over 30 years old. I was raised in a home where there was not a lot of money so we made things, bought them used and fixed things to as good as new or better. Recently an individual was looking at my gear and said, "this stuff is ancient". I laughed and told him, "when you buy good stuff (not expensive name brand) and take care of it, you only have to buy it once! He then proceeded, in conversation, began expressing his worries about meat prices and asked, "what are we going to do"? I chuckled and told him we will have to do what I did growing up. We hunted for almost all of our meat (fish, snapping turtles, squirrels, turkey, dove, ground hogs, possums, deer etc.) Ground hogs and possums?! he yelled. I said yeah, it's good eating. Well, he said, I think I would rather starve and I said, you probably will. Boss, we live in a narcissistic soy boy society where people are more concerned with how they look and how they will be seen by their digital so-called friends and who will notice their name brand crap. GOD help them Boss, they sure won't be able to!

Watching your cabin videos back in 2016 inspired me to quit the best paying job I ever had, sell my house and move from CT to NH. Your words hit me like a cement truck and helped me realize my dreams of living simply. I've been loving the new land I have, my home, my abilities to cut my own trees, harvest my own venison, grow my own veggies. The many changes that have come to my life since 2016 Boss, I owe to you. Meat was good and added a bit of richness of fat. Like 1/4 lb of pork. Bake or put in dutch oven pan brown on stove. Miss parents cooking. Mom could boil water and be Great. Love. I enjoyed the story about your boots. When I was in my early 20's, around '78 I think, I bought my first pair of $100 running shoes. At the time that was a very high price for sneakers. I'd been buying my own clothes since I started delivering newspapers when I was 12 so I'd always gotten inexpensive shoes before. I was anticipating the special joy and exceptional service I would get from those $100 New Balance shoes. I did take better care of them than any shoes I'd previously owned. Never let them get wet or dirty. I didn't wear them as my daily shoes, mostly just for running and going to the gym. They started coming unstitched within the first month and they were ready for the trash within 6 weeks. I did go back to the sneaker boutique where I'd bought them and wasn't surprised when the clerk told me: "tough luck, your fault." I did feel like I'd been swindled however. I went straight to KMart and bought a new pair of sneakers for under $10. The cheap sneakers were at least as comfortable as the NB shoes. I made no effort to treat them gently, I used them for running, got them muddy and even waded in them while fishing. The cheap KMart sneakers gave me excellent service for just short of a year. My expectations had been low but in the end I felt like I got way more than I'd paid for. I don't mind paying for honest quality but I can't tolerate paying a high price for a turd !!! When bargain priced purchases don't perform well it doesn't bother me; when the cheap stuff exceeds my expectations (which happens more often than not) I feel like I've either been lucky or wise. Thanks for the video !!!
@thebossoftheswamp Жыл бұрын
Certain boots like the Lacrosse Ice Kings are worth the money but most are not. The cheap Brahma's I showed here would most likely fall apart if I wore them regularly as work boots but that's not what I bought them for. 20 years for 20 bucks. I'm good with that :-))

Boss, I have a friend I helped out in the mornings selling live bait . He owned a tackle shop. I was able to buy what ever I wanted at cost . The high end equipment was 100% mark up. I did buy some top of the line equipment, still using today 20yrs later . He told me the 39.95 combos could keep the doors open. And I believe him, the sales people always use you to the more expensive stuff, it’s not that there bad people. It the sign of the times. Being in business of any kind is no walk in the park , Amazon or Walmart are always one step behind. For us guys it’s about freedom and a day in the woods. I can’t believe the cost of a good pair of leather boots. Maybe 500.00.

Some items are worth the money and some aren't. It's trial error.
