Whilst south africa has lost it's identity very much in the city, trying to stay 'Relative'; we must hope botswana can keep it's originality. I hope this is where the majority of folkes fleeing SA should turn too, if that is how they tend.

It's not true. There are many safe places in South Africa. There are many Batswana who come to SA, even to Johannesburg which is considered dengerous, but still go back home to Botswana without anything happening to them. There will always be safe and unsafe places in different cities around the world.
@botswanainsight38044 ай бұрын
Old Naledi has a similar history to the likes of Alexandra or Soweto in Johannesburg where the poor working class migrated to work from rural areas when Gaborone was being built. It started off as an illegal settlement and is Gaborone's lowest-income area. Hence it's associated with crime and lawlessness. Went there a couple of times myself with the perception that it was entirely not safe, got out two times at night driving without an incident. It has its bad side but it's coming up alright. It has better roads and working street lights than some of our posh neighbourhoods in Gabs.

I'm British but lived in Bots for5 years, specifically Mochudi. Old Naledi is not a safe as the rest of Gabs/ Old Canada is , but it is still miles safer that most places in the UK. I have been to Old Naledi many times at night as I used to drop a work mate off there on my way home from Commerce Park. I only got my phone robbed once in 5 years - that was coming out of of B6 Bar in Mochudi. The guy snatched it out my pocket from behind and ran off like Letsile Tobogo. You should check out Maputo is Mozambique or Namibian skeleton coast Swakopmund next. PS sematla means the opposite of what he said, it means dumb/uneducated/green/novice/ignorant

Not to suggest that Old Naledi has no crime, but you will be very surprised that almost everyone in this video who says Old Naledi is the most dangerous place in Gaborone, has never been there! They are highly likely saying this because they grew up hearing that Old Naledi is dangerous and they have never experienced the danger themselves.

Very true. I used to be one of those that had a negative perception of Old Naledi, until I had to go there for a relatives funeral. Wasn't driving, got into a bus that dropped off at the old BURS stop and walked into Zola. Smartly dressed, I thought I would stand out and thus become a target for criminals. As I walked, I became at ease and relaxed as I saw better dressed people walking out of Old Naledi on their way to work. Yes, it's dangerous, but the criminals there are opportunistic, they just don't strike anyhow.
