Looks impressive - I can remember when the first Huions and XP-Pens came out (among other "alternative" brands) and you had to make sacrifices by not going Wacom. Seems like the only sacrifice now is paying extra for the Wacom version.
@Jerry_quesosoАй бұрын
Their EMR pen tech has gotten so good, contrary to what many think its not due to X levels of pressure but instead is due to lower IAF and increased max pressure range which has vastly improved the pen performance with the recent XP and Huion's models.

It's the drivers, I have a 2020 edition Kamvas pro 24 1440p and my pen is as wobble free with the angle ruler test. Nothing that remarkable, my wacom 22HD had horrific wobble and jitter issues for almost a year till Wacom finally got the windows 10 drivers sorted in late 2016. I remember back then I had to keep my LazyNazumi smoothing JACKED in photoshop, lol. Then it was back to that Wacom magic which luckily Huion has now finally achieved too.

The scale issue at 7:10 is easy to fix, just go into display settings (on windows) select the huion and on the "scale and layout" put it at a 100%. For some reason (probably the size and all) the standard is 150% so everything is unreasonably zoomed in. Its better to adjust there than in individual software

I'm really loving how Huion and XP-Pen keep upstaging each other. Two years ago we had XP-Pen dropping Gen 2 budget tablets that were better than Huion and this year it's starting to be vice-versa. It's making them shell out better products. Last year I got an XPPen Artist Pro 16 2nd gen, and when my friend asked me for tablet recommendations to replace her aging Cintiq, I recommended the new Huion 19 because of the touch screen and that it had so many positive reviews on how the pen handled. My only gripe with these new textured screen tablets is that regardless of if I use plastic or felt nibs, my tablet has outlasted all the nibs it came with in just barely a year. 😂

I have the normal Huion Kamvas 13 and it still works great! But I have to say that his one looks tempting, if this one ever dies I might jump into that. Biggest issue with this one is that I don't have a color calibrator machine and I'm not totally sure if it's right, but the pen is the best I've ever used, the screen friction is enough for me up to the point I don't need to use felt nibs (too much friction for me). Glad to see Huion is still creating great products. Also, you don't need to plug the 2 USB A, the red is only required if your machine can't output enough power through the first one, you can try using it without the red one and most probably will work, I mean, I use my Kamvas 13 on an old asus tuf fx505d and works fine with just the HDMI and the black USB A. The stand is more expensive here in europe, it is 50€ which is quite much for an stand, but even if the base is plastic ir works surprinsingly well and doesn't show any sign of wear after 2 years. The screen size is good for me, I can't imagine me using one of those giant 24 inches tablets, 13 is quite fine, 16 at max. But if you want something affordable this one can server you pretty well, I believe you can perfectly do proffesional work with this device

It depends on how it really compares in actual "control" (doing small details, etc). There's more to it than line wobble, as I compared an old classic intuos Pro XL and it provided better line control than huion Kamvas 22". But it is REALLY good that there's no line wobble in this tiny model (here's hoping same luck for the future gen 3 larger models). All I say is that, by experience of comparing myself these two brands products, using both intensively (and the Wacom being way much older)... I'd have to really test these on my own, to know for sure. Learned that the hard way :).

Hey Brad another great video. I feel like many of these "Budget" display tablets are all people may need especially for getting started. I used an XP-pen 12 or 13 pro (dont remember the exact specs) and it was great to get started so I could save up for my ipad (which was then stolen) So I have gone back to the XP-pen artist and it has definitely gotten me bye as I save up yet again for another Ipad or tab s9.
@3polygonsАй бұрын
Just curious.... Would you consider a larger XP, instead? (22, 19, 24...). I have a tab S7 FE, it has more than enough processing and RAM for painting (unless it's a quite large project for print), but it is quite a way lower/limited painting experience compared to drawing on a big tablet (and a big enough display). And the issues are the same with an ipad (even the latest Pro). Also, besides that, even the iPad with a slightly better software ecosystem falls really short compared to what you can get on a desktop (or laptop). I paint (now only occasionally, I just use a big intuos + pc or laptop, but gave it a serious try for months) with the s7 FE, but I would very much regret the purchase if weren't that it is fantastic for standard uses, like just browsing, consuming anything audio or video (great sound and good image quality). But definitely that was not the plan for it, but using it for painting. And I can paint with it, no problems, but it's way worse than any pen display (from 19" and up, specially 24) or even the combo of a classic tablet, PC and regular monitor, with what I do all my pro work.
@PaulKasetaАй бұрын
@@3polygonshonestly I’d consider it. I like the portability of the iPad or galaxy tab. But at the same time I have probably drawn on it away from my desk maybe twice lol. If I went larger I’d want a quality touch display as my brain has just gotten used to touch controls

@@PaulKaseta If you are only sketching... or doing art _very_ casually, an iPad or S9 FE+ (or Ultra, anything equal or above 12.4 inches with 6GB or 8 GB RAM) makes total sense. And it's a mini computer with wifi which you can carry everywhere in the house, and even outside (for interiors, really). I'm not comfy with it for serious work, but that's personal to each one. I just don't see it as a daily driver for full day work, every day. In terms of the iPad, I'd totally get the iPad AIR 13" (not the 11) with the new Pen pro and m2 processor rather than the new iPad Pro 13 (m4). As you get all needed and a decent size with this solution (new AIR 13) for a lot less money. And I am not convinced on OLED's risks (the new AIR has yet the retina LED that is so great. OLED free ;) ). If being completely honest, if money is less of an issue, I'd go for the iPad AIR 13". Better software ecosystem. Procreate and ArtStudio Pro are amazing, and you can purchase Affinity to get every advanced software for image editing and vectors. And I prefer the ipad's screen's ratio (proportion) for painting. Even if the S9s' ratio is better for media/movies/series consumption. If you need all touch functions it becomes complicated with pen displays... at least if willing to stay in "reasonable" cost. Many of the budget options don't have those. Plus touch functions are not really well implemented in most desktop software (for Windows, macOS). In the best case, not like in tablet's "apps". But in exchange, those apps are toys compared to professional software on desktop... Kind of.

We really need to stop calling this tablets "entry level", the quality in this latest tablets is just incredible, you can say goodbye to the wacom´s monopoly on drawing tablets. PD: Wacom one is trash, and nobody uses touch, unless your using an standalone tablet.
@3polygonsАй бұрын
It's only entry level for the size. Other than that, no line wobble, 2 disks, 3 pen side buttons, solid pen.... well, the colors seem accurate, but "default" color accuracy is (a bit of a myth) just an starting point. It needs to be seen how it behaves once calibrated by a colorimeter, but good default values are a really good sign. But if it is decent enough, it's all you need, *if* counting as well on a good calibrated main monitor, to check values and tones. For me, every tablet from any brand below what would be a standard monitor size is entry level for full day, intensive, complex and accurate work (in my experience, 13 and 16 for that don't cut it). But fully agreeing on your opinion about the W. One. Being a brand that excels in quality, totally flopped big time in that product line, it's well known among professionals. Like with the companion/studio. The rest of the product line is pure excellence, as much as we can complain about the price (rightly so).
@Jerry_quesosoАй бұрын
Hard agree, touch on pen displays is kinda pointless as you have keyboard shortcuts/macropad/TourBox to your disposal and your non-dominant hand will most likely be planted there all the time. Gives the impression of being convenient to pan/zoom around your canvas so intuitively, but the least thing you want is to add more stress to your dominant hand with constant touch gestures and the shenanigans that might happen from touch such as miss-clicks.

I'd wish... but I am afraid it is often a combination of the pen, the tablet grid and build process... But who knows. It's relatively inexpensive if the new pen would solve that. I have the v1. The most aggravating aspect is the usb design. Here we have a device that's the perfect size to carry with something like a steam deck or a little laptop, but deliberately misshapen usb c ports and the total lack of any labels for inputs is obnoxious. If it's all you have, you can get it working, but the incompatibility with usb c cables means you have to waste time tracking down and possibly modifying several 3rd party ones. And yes. I have the "official" Huion one. But the whole point of usb is to free us from proprietary connectors. Do yourself a favour and find an intuos 3, bamboo or some other cheap dark pen tablet to get drawing on your computer without the obstacles. Plug and Play is a thing that exists, but unfortunately not on the Huion Kamvas 13.

Does anybody know if gen3 (or whatever it's called in larger models) is incoming for the 22 / 24 models (pro, plus or standard)? I mean, new product launches. 3 pen buttons, 2 disks (ie: for brush size and zoom or undo/redo), and tablet buttons, those are premium details to me (non existing in Wacom 'non-pro' Cintiqs). Kudos to Huion for adding those in a "mainstream" product. These become incredibly efficient in an illustrator's daily work. It seems that the key thing to me, *line wobble* , is not an issue with this one (huge news!), so, Gen 3 looks really interesting (and/or these new pens, the tablet, whatever is the reason. Or a bit of everything). Let's hope they'll apply same tech to bigger models. BTW, Wacom One (compared in the video) has ben detected (demonstrated with proof, tests) as a product line with significantly inferior tech (pen pressure and accuracy) by certain really thorough youtube creator. It's like another planet compared IMO to, say, the basic Cintiq 16 or 22; in certain way, actually also worse than the intuos classic pen tablets. I wouldn't get the wacom one even if it got cheaper.

@3polygonsАй бұрын
I think you would be fine with any 22" tablet . Bigger is better for line control, and scene composition, for me the ideal is 24". I use a classic (non display) Wacom XL, but I have total (trained) coordination hand-screen. For most people (some really good artists) it is not the case and they are better off with a _pen display_ . The issue is that the jump in price to a 24 is considerable. I would totally recommend you 24, but 22 is at a very, very nice value/capability/price ratio. It's very functional for people like you and me used to A4 or bigger canvases/paper. The XPpen brand seems to be cheaper in all their product line, BTW. But Huion Kamvas "Plus" or "Pro" products are pretty good. I have a Kamvas 22 (plain, not pro, not even plus, and the oldest) and it is very functional, but I prefer my intuos large as I get better line control and better sensitivity (don't trust the 16k levels of pressure, it's a marketing gimmick, a thing that each brand measures differently). Note here: The Kamvas 22 Plus has a remarkably good screen (wider color range, much better quality than a plain standard one) and is cheaper than the pro. You might want to consider it. The "plain" kamvas 22's screen is just barely a sRGB compliant screen, and my colorimeter can't leave it with really professional color accuracy, but it's workable (most artists doing commissions don't need so much color accuracy, though). Go for the Plus. Or the Pro. The Plus is a QLED (NOT OLED, qled tablets have no burn-in problem!!!). So, it's a nice buy. But even in the video is mentioned that the XPpen has better initial force of activation. Meaning it is more sensitive for shading and painting. So, very tough choice to make. Recently XP had and offer for an old 22R pro for 400 bucks, quite a bargain, but I think it finished. I got my Kamvas 22 (plain) for 400 bucks on Amazon, first hand, years ago. And if you have SAME control (like me) on a classic pen tablet than on a pen display (or pretty close), just go for a current Intuos Pro Wacom L. Best pen and tablet tech on the planet, and proven record of being incredibly durable, but ONLY if you really have such achieved skill (took me many years). If not, get yourself a recent, modern (ideally the newest!!) 22" or bigger pen display from XPpen or Huion, you should be completely fine.

@@LOGICALMAGNET Regular Huion Kamvas 22 is now at 449 USD (in the brand's US store). The one I very heavily recommend to you is the Kamvas *Plus* at 549 $. The difference in screen quality is HUGE. Full lamination, so, less or no distance between the tip and the cursor in any case, quite better contrast ratio,which typically means better subtlety in darks and light tones, plus better gradients (and due to QLED, people say also better intensity and saturation), and _quite_ wider color range... Really makes for those 100 bucks of difference, it is a much better purchase. I believe the pen is the exact same than the one my older kamvas 22 has (BTW, several years and hasn't break yet, but I use it very occasionally, and don't carry it around: I'm super careful), so, I maintain that a Wacom L pen tablet (indeed, even an arcane XL) has more precision with lines and in general, but useless argument if you don't have _a lot_ of control and experience with pen tablets. Also, "same pen" does not tell the whole story, the grid is surely better in the Plus model, and full lamination adds a lot of control. The experience, feel, accuracy doing lines and detailed work depends on many factors. XPpen Artist 22 Plus seems like another good purchase, closer to your budget. 422 $. 130% sRGB (91% Adobe RGB, it says at the bottom, on specs, quite good for a product like this and at this price), so, should be completely fine. It says the "offer" ends in 14 hours, but dunno if this is a permanent trick for impulse buyers and this price is set down often. (dunno as I typically purchase on Amazon, not at these 2 brands' main site. For faster shipping, refunds, etc). It's quite good for a product like this; I'm surprised. Anyway, "regular" price is 469$, so, kind of also close to your budget, if you miss the offer. This model is pretty new, says in the shop listing. And I recommend going for relatively recent models, as these brands evolve a lot each year. Both are 1080p screens (1920x1080, I believe). I never *_EVER_* was disturbed with the "pixel", and I am a professional artist (and painted plenty on the Kamvas 22). But some people get really picky about this. If that's your case, it seems Huion is going to release soon a new model line (if I understood it cortectly), for example, the Kamvas RDS-220. Those are 2.5k QHD resolution (1440P height if I am not wrong). Which brings finer point than 1080p. But I have always thought it's an exaggeration, the resolution issue of "seeing the pixel" (you really have to focus on that...). I guess as a new product (can't purchase yet), it will be definitely more expensive. Or you can also go to the 24 series (my personal preference), and get the "Artist 24". The 24 Pro seems older (surely the first one, says 90% Adobe RGB while Artist 24 is 94%!). It's 2.5k but at a bigger 24" size (which is great), but still very fine point. But then is like 900 bucks or so but right now are at around 600 both (I guess these offers happen often)... ;). The 24 "Pro" is now old. With a few "issues", too. I remember the first iterations of both Huion and XP had problems of accuracy when the pen reached the edges of the screen (important for reaching menus! Are accessible but the displacement is larger there). To my knowledge, it's due to not full lamination. Dunno if the Artist 24 being more modern than the pro is full laminated. It doesn't say.... Instead, the 22 "Plus" versions of both brands don't have this issue due to being full laminated, but I could be wrong. I believe is due to thicker screen, so, all the full laminated models (Kamvas 22 Plus, Artist 22 Plus should be fine), as there's no displacement between cursor-pen tip. I find the XP Artist 24 (non pro) dangerously tempting for myself :D There you go. With your budget or a bit more, to draw on something somewhat similar (in perception, even if not exact in size, as what counts is the "feel", in my opinion, also need to count on the space eaten by menus and panels, so why I recommend 22 and up; ideal 24) to an A4, I'd get one of those 3 (in no particular order!) : Huion "Kamvas 22 Plus", XPpen's "Artist 22 Plus" or a pen tablet: the Wacom Intuos Pro L. Beware, the names have to be exactly those, as these brands have tons of products, some names are way too similar but are very different products (often, quite worse). Lastly, in case you'd prefer a classic tablet, the Wacom L is right now, at US shop, for 499 USD, first hand (new). Disclaimer: I have never used a XPpen tablet. Watched a gazillion reviews of many of their products but I have only (deeply) tested Huion's and Wacom products. But I am 99% sure both brands are very good, although inferior yet to Wacom in quality, accuracy and durability (still, the above are very good purchases, IMO).

I'm just getting started with digital art and am looking for a fairly affordable way to try it out. Is the Huion hs611 still good? Is there anything else in that price range anyone recommends? Thanks.
@velvi8359Ай бұрын
The hs611 works ok, although I would recommend the Inspiroy 2 over that model. The inspiroy 2 has a newer/better pen, feels nicer in terms of overall build quality, and the scroll wheel works way better than the hs611's touch strip. The medium is the perfect size if you are using a laptop, I would go for the large if you work on a larger desktop screen.

Anything other than Wacom drivers are a hit or miss. I will rather get a cheap Wacom One than this. Weird pen offset, pen dies if dropped, display dies in three months, poor customer support, requires frequent reinstallation of driver... if it is too good to be true, then it is.

Do not buy from Huion, my kamvas pro 22 crapped out on me within less than 3 years, and I've used it even less than that, support was completely useless to the point that I was better able to identify problems than the minimum wage person reading a pdf about "most common basic problems", spend a little extra and just get a wacom, what I should've done back then...

A lot of pro artists my self included are unfortunately pretty locked in on photoshop - the nearest competitors still don’t quite hit on the higher end pro level features that photoshop has by default - or importantly the plugin support. We’re still a ways off pros being able to switch. Which is why it’s so important for up and coming artists to make that switch earlier in their careers. We haven’t hit the blender moment for 2D yet :(
