I've had this for a couple of months!!! It's great!! as the long as they keep updating the software and fix some minor/annoying bugs(nothing to do with main functionality, it works pretty well) This little box will be perfected!! For future innovation, I wish they would put a little glow on some buttons for nightowls like me!! But I like the Tourbox. It's really good!!

It seems like a neat device, but something you didn't touch upon is button feel. When you click it they sound like they have a very clunky switch, like there's an actual microswitch under the button as opposed to something like a membrane switch as is on most keyboards and gamepads. When I am using peripherals like these the feel of the device is oftentimes more important than absolutely optimal button placement.
@Trid3nt861

I just got myne from eBay for a decent price. There doesn't seem to be Cherry or Gateron micro switches in it. It actually feels in-between membrane and silent switches (I don't hear any click like on my single hand keypad Razer Orbweaver with green switches). It has weight to it and the body of the Tour-box has a smooth rubbery plastic feel. It does stay still and won't move while I have my hand on it (it stays stable).

I ended up getting the XP Pen AC 19 remote for $36, for anyone looking for a cheaper option. It works really well. I have custom settings for all my different drawing and writing programs. This is really cool looking even at the price point, but if it's out of range there are affordable alternatives.

I picked one of these up on Black Friday for a steep discount and it's absolutely worth the price if you can swing it. Started out using it in Photoshop where it worked flawlessly, and ever since I switched to Clip Studio Paint I think it works even better if anything. I use the small dial for changing my brush size and the big one for rotating the canvas and that's been fantastic for lineart (since you can quickly get not only the right sized line, but also the optimum angle for your hand to make that line).

This looks great, though my only concern is how it would feel ergonomically on either hand? Being left handed as I draw/animate, if its just made for those who draw with their right hand, the buttons and toggles are not going to feel great. That's the only thing I can see as an issue with this.
@CDianneKArt
@CDianneKArt 4 жыл бұрын
it's funny you say that, because as a right-handed artist I was watching this and thinking "I would have a much easier time with this device if I was left handed". ergonomically it just seems like the switches and knobs that it wants you to use would work so much better with my right (drawing) thumb and index than my left. the two buttons on the right look like they would be great for a pinky/ring finger because they curve the same way, and there's even a button on the left side where your thumb would be at a perfect length to reach over and click it! If anything you might have an easier time than I :)
@chrisjaserart
@chrisjaserart 4 жыл бұрын
@@CDianneKArt Now you making me want to buy this and test to see whether or not it feels better in the left or right hand 😂. I think overall it really depends how much your hand will be on the device as you draw or animate or video editing. Like if you're using it as a easier way to do hotkeys I think either hand will be ok. BUT if your hand is resting on the entire time as you work, like animating or video work, I think it would feel like your hand is resting on the joystick as a left handed artist 😁 IMO.
@CDianneKArt
@CDianneKArt 4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisjaserart that's true! I just think if I was to put my left hand on it while drawing with my right, I would have the joystick, d pad and roller thing underneath the middle of my palm instead of near my fingers!! not as helpful XD and why that button on the side if it's so awkward to push with my fingers? makes more sense to me for a left hander. But you know it's true, it's all about how you'd be using it!

This is just an upgraded version of the Wacom remote. Yes, it's made to work for people who don't use a Wacom remote. The benefit is the type of buttons the tourbox has. The buttons were made to suit creators, wheels, d-pad, scroll, I think I also see an analog stick? Maybe if your not use to these control, a multi button mouse would probably do the same work, without the multiple wheels options as the tourbox offers. I wouldn't mind picking one up, due to me adapting to quick on screen buttons using my Intuos Pro. I'm not sure if he specified the price? Good job on creating something useful for creators, seems like a step forward for the industry. Great review!

This is really cool. It's definitely something that will only work with certain artist and their work flow. For me, I use a Huion KAMVAS 22 Pro with Clip Studio and I switch between tools so much that a wireless number pad just felt a lot better for my work flow. Why not just use the shortcut keys on the screen itself? I did, but my arm would get tired holding and shifting along the screen after long work hours. I also need A LOT of shortcut keys for all the tools that I use and a numberpad had the perfect amount of keys on it too. All the keys are within reach too, so I don't strain my hand after working for a long time. I noticed that you do have to pivot and extend your thumb around for certain buttons on the Tourbox since its mainly the thumb pressing most of the keys. When I work, I prefer to keep my shortcut hand as relaxed as possible. It's is already centralized on the number pad and I can use all my fingers including my thumb for quick shortcut key access without extending or stretching them over and over. Again, the Tourbox could work for certain artist and their work flow. I just don't see it working well with mine.

I really like the idea of this and it's really affordable in comparison to something like the Loupedeck. The thing I like most about this is that I imagine I could easily 'feel' my way around it without having to look and having an auto setting for flicking between PS and Illustrator could be really useful. Hopefully it wouldn't conflict with the shortcuts on my pen display.

Clip Studio's tab mate is even cheaper than wacom remote, and imo it's much better in term of ergonomics (though it's "less" in build quality).
@V渡辺萌子
@V渡辺萌子 4 жыл бұрын
But its buttons can only be set as fixed functions and cannot be set as combined functions,and its layout makes it hard to completely manipulate one hand, using Expresskey is not helpful with my workflow at all. TourBox kind of meets all my needs, I can cover the whole device one hand with all my fingers well positioned to the corresponding buttons. More importantly, it's fully customizable, the buttons can be used in composition.I suppose price is not that important for peripherals like these .
@casekocsk
@casekocsk 4 жыл бұрын
@@V渡辺萌子 Assigning buttons and button combination is all due to software/driver (provided the hardware maker didn't screw up, like somehow they make so that only one button can be pressed at one time). And if you find the driver sucks, there are some free workaround to make your own button combination or macro. So the first important thing when looking for device like this IMO is the ergonomics... In my current layout, I use all my 5 fingers at the same time, so my workflow is very fast (pan, undo/redo, pen, eraser, zoom in/out, and with some slight finger movement and no eye movement, I can easily change to change color and color picker). I think it's very hard to do with Tourbox... Oh, and my current device is much cheaper compare to it... So yes, price really matters, even for device like this (the only thing where price don't matter is when it has something to do with life/death). If price really doesn't matter to you, just send me 100k USD (shipping fee not included) and I will make your dream express remote, built from ground up, fully customized just for your usage only.
@V渡辺萌子
@V渡辺萌子 4 жыл бұрын
@@casekocsk I was just disagreeing with the saying that Wacom's ExpressKey Remote is cheaper, without comparing its internal function and layout. Now that you bring up Clip Studio's tab and its ergonomics. Sorry, my answer is still TourBox again. I've browsed many reviews on different products before I placed the order, Clip Studio's tab has been excluded in the first beginning. I felt it's easy to get broken and I need a device stable on the table to decrease the frequency I moving mu wrist and hand. Also, I suppose the buttons of TourBox tend to be more intuitive. It's everyone's free choice, I think it's worth so $100 is no big deal. And you made me laugh out on saying I should send you the money. Based on this disagreement between us, I don't think you can build anything useful for me

Not enough buttons for me... When drawing, I need at least 4 modifiers, 3 wheels, and 12 buttons. Yes, I'm serious. And that one is not ergonomic enough since you are mostly use your thumbs, and occasionally other fingers. So you really only use one (or at most two) fingers at one time... similar to Wacom Remote. IDK if you already review this one, but the most ergonomics "express key/controller" that I know this far is CLIP STUDIO owned express remote (tabmate). With tabmate, you use at least 3 fingers at the same time. Also, let's not forget about the price.

And if that still isn’t enough you can assign 2x different sets of shortcuts to the same app and switch between them. Definitely a big thumbs up from me. I recently backed their latest kickstarter so I have a Bluetooth one too which means I can even mirror my desktop to my iPad using Astropad and take my Tourbox and doodle on the couch. I heard that they are planning to add the ability to connect to the iPad directly too at some stage which would be fantastic.

@Brad Cowboy assuming that price isn't a factor, which do you think is better for art--the Tourbox or the Loupedeck CT? The thing I'm liking about the Loupedeck CT is that the touch buttons and knobs have customizable labels, making it easier to remember what everything does (which is important for me since I switch programs a lot). Loupedeck also has more buttons. But the Tourbox's funky layout is probably more conductive to muscle memory and it seems more specifically aimed at artists in terms of button placement. So I'm on the fence on which to get.

Can I bind this to joystick/controller and use it to adjust FSS frequency in Elite Dangerous? I need more buttons for my sims, and this looks like it would fit in my setup next to my Stream deck.

How would this device hold up when compared to a side mini keyboard. I use one of those Razer mini Hotkey keyboards that often gamers use, it has scroll wheels and an analog stick and all programmable is hand size. I would love to see someone compare the two.

a neat device but i still like using a keyboard. i name my layers and do a lot of key combination with it even when i am not looking at it. and with that price you can already get decent wireless mechanical keyboard.

I use Krita with tourbox, it's been awesome. you should contact their tech support, maybe it's some setting errors or bugs on your computer, just saying.

Any cheaper alternatives to this? I was thinking of just getting a wireless keyboard so my other hand isn't at a weird angle

These things kill me. It's $170 for 13 buttons including some knobs. My keyboard has 105 keys and they cost as little as $12. Yeah, it'd be nice if my keyboard had a scroll wheel or two. I'd pay another $10 for that. It's totally impractical, but it has lots of buttons on it so I still kind of want it.

The R&D, pre production, tooling and other bits and leaves are what’s adding to the price, not just material. Keyboards don’t take much to develop especially those $10 ones. So you really paying for the fact it’s a niche product

It looks quite big (great in some situations, not great when travelling around). The plastic used for the buttons has that really cheap tacky look. Honestly, the Wacom ExpressKey Remote seems to have more inputs.

But the price , and not wireless. Would a razor Orbweaver not be better and more ergonomic. I suppose the big thing is the automatic sync with each programme.

This thing doesn't seem to like Mac OS. Tourbox's video makes it seem simple, but my experience was anything but. Apparently for a number of people you have to go into the terminal and start running unix commands and I don't want to bother with that so I'm returning it.

Promising tool but too expensive for me, I rather use Xp-Pen AC-19 it only have one dial and 9 keys but it's light and wireless and also cheap only $36.

cool idea, but they need to make this ergonomic for people who need shortcuts all day 5 days a week. I've been using a Logitech G13 gaming pad for all my shortcuts in Photoshop for years, and I have never had wrist pain or anything. Its so much more ergonomic and efficient than a regular keyboard where you are performing finger gymnastics to undo etc. This thing is a great idea but looks like it needs refinement to make itself somehow more valuable to my workflow than repurposed gaming accessories that already do everything this thing does but better and cheaper.
