It was never designed to be worked on. They could care less how difficult it is to repair.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news. We been replacing these engines between 15k and 30k. One particular truck has had 3 of these 6.2's and it only has 87k.

I've seen a video of a guy here in New Zealand, called Fejoah. He uses two rods down the oil galleries above the cam that must hold up the lifters. Cam replacement on a LS with heads on.
@thebubba113 күн бұрын
i can see where that would work.....pretty sure if the lifters are pushed fully up into the trays the cam might slide out. if i ever build an Ls i might try that

Last week I turned up the boost on my Miata to 15lbs. , and blew one piston , and bend two rods , feel the pain. One thing I learned though, no body does machining work anymore , I was on the phone for a week trying to get someone to machine my block. Boy times have changed, everyone one is either too busy , or just picks the work they want to do. I will for sure avoid building an engine ground up again. Guess we have to just order engines in a box.

Now that the dod is deleted...you dont have to pull the heads to pull the cam...all you do is rotate the cam 2 or 3 times and the lifters will stay up in the bore and you can pull the cam

The silver lining here is that engine will be good for many years to come providing reliable service.

General Mess,, all these new V8 engines are a disaster of engineering
@williamfink892113 күн бұрын
It’s because the people who designed it don’t have to work on it, and that’s not the only place it happens, Electronics, Telecommunications, Automotive, you name it they don’t want you fixing it yourself they want you to buy a new one☝️😎👍

The problem isnt that its hard.....its ridiculously time consuming for a lifter and cam change

@thebubba1 that's fair. That design does make it really strong tho.

It is one of the simplest modern engines but might as well be German compared to the far superior SBC.
@Connor4x413 күн бұрын
@The0utmode I do agree
@The0utmode13 күн бұрын
It's sad, modern GM took the best engine ever made the SBC, and ruined it with LS and LT that isn't even half the quality of design that the SBC was. But you think this is bad try and pull apart a modern overhead head cam engine or anything german.

LS has been around for a while and your now just complaining? 🤣 I get that they are more complicated than pappies old 70's 350ci but so is everything else these days. Besides the hot rodders love this engine. And you think this engine is bad, try a Kia 2.7 V6 that you have to remove the intake manifold just to change the back 3 sparkplugs 😂
@thebubba13 күн бұрын
Its an LT engine not an LS although they are similar The LTs accessory placement makes it more of a PIA to disassemble
