We have a boarder that meal preps her horses feed. It's all in Ziploc bags. All we do take one out , put contents in a bucket, add water. It's so easy! Her horse is like Pleazant, a character! He supervises me in everything I do!!

My goal is to be a good boarder like that when I get my horse. I want to make the staff's life as easy as possible since they will be with my "child" 24/7.

Beth Zambone I recommend Tupperware containers instead of Ziplocs. They last much longer, create less waste, and are much more durable. I use them everyday to feed my friends eight horses :D

Our barn has all of the owners meal prep. Grain and supplements go into a baggie so that everything is as the horse owners like it.

It's so satisfying having everything prepped for the week! I do the same at home for my horses so it is easy for the morning... and I can sleep in 10 minutes more LOL! Oh and tell hubby nice dance moves 😂

He was very thin when you got him? He doesn't look thin coming off the trailer in your previous video. If you do side by side screen shots from this video and the video you posted when you first got him, he looks the same. No ribs or hip bones are showing on him. I don't understand what you mean by him looking thin. Please explain.

it can be helpful to see what others do, and maybe find something you can incorporate into your own plan.

any reason you use the hay nets with the huge holes as apposed to the ones i saw that had smaller holes? is it just what Frisby and Pleasent prefer? the huge holed ones would be a big mess and waste with my two so they get slow feeder nets so that due to smaller holes the waste a ton less hay
@SilverPonyKat4 жыл бұрын
That face with a muzzle covered in goooo... Lol. I can save you some time with your hay nets. Tie the ends of the string and put a snap on it. Wrap it around the top rail a couple times, once or twice around a lower rail and snap it back on the net. It will hold everything in place and makes hanging and taking down go much quicker. No more knots to tie and untie.

Curious, it looks like you prep hay for a week, and leave a weeks worth still bundled. However, I only saw two bags of what looked like Ward shavings ( I didn’t see the label). You purchase 2 string bales that look like kicker bales (Timothy approximately 45lbs each). Is this your normal? I am being nosy, as I am trying to figure out how much you spent. 1st cut Timothy ranges from $11 to $16 a bale (the higher if it’s Canadian). Ward shavings run about $5.50 to $6.95. So at the minimal you spend $55 on hay a week for two horses and $11 on shavings. As for the bagged grain , I only know Purina / Triple Crown prices which range from $16 to $35 per bag. In a nutshell, it looks like you are spending the same amount as someone might spend say on a large Fido. I am super close to buying my first horse and for some reason half the horse world says I should be spending upwards of $1000 a week and the other half says I should be spending $50 per week for one horse. Thus I am being nosy trying to work it all out to help me better understand what my budget will be.
