My horses get lots of hay (grass mix), Nutrena safechoice senior, horse shine supplement, glc joint supplement, and free choice Himalayan rock salt. I put water in their grain. In the summer when they sweat a lot they also get electrolytes. In the winter if it gets below 20 degrees they also get extra hay.

Even though I no longer have a horse, Lucy, I found this very interesting. Most particularly for its benefit to all the horse and pony owners out there who might not be clear about the body score/weight tape combo, and especially for those pony owners or future pony owners who really need to avoid ponies becoming overweight who will just eat and eat if you let them and it can be lifelong devastation for them. And I love to see all three of your horses and they happen to make an interesting range of ages/work/types; so lots of great info there for everyone who follows you. You are such a kind and informative equine caregiver :)

This is very useful because there are 2 horses that me and my mum ride every week and one I’d say is reasonably barrel shaped and could do with a little more exercise and the other I thought might be slightly underweight but from this I’d say he’s about right. The first is mid 20s and doesn’t school so it might be hard to get his weight down but I wouldn’t say he’s that overweight!

I'm a Hugh Red Mills fan and feed my mares the Horse Care 10 for the winter with Alfa A Oil and they always look great and then for summer when they are in more work use the ultra care from the horse care range 😊
