Painting rails is such a pain. Love the recommendations for primer. For paint, I sometimes use the"mistints" from home Depot. But then, like you say, they may not last. Sometimes they have really good Browns, greens, or Grey's!

it's true that oil based paint is more durable, and rustoleum is awesome, but I can't use it, even in a well ventilated area, because it is so smelly. I'm so sensitive to chemical smells, the stuff will make me almost pass out. I use EXTERIOR latex based paint and it works fine. :)
