What they call Irish Seaweed may be Irish Moss or Chondrus crispus. A thickener called Carrageenan is made from this Seaweed

Love the channel mate! I’ve been doing some sugar syrup feeding at the moment too. We mix up 600 Litres at a time in an IBC and fill watering cans out of it. Can feed about 120 hives (full truck load) in an hour. We pour directly into the hives, and as our bottom boards are solid and we get minimal spillage.

Go to the cheap shop and buy in tge kitchen supplies isle one of those extra large syringes for turkey basting. They have perfect measurements

I buy by the half tonne. I only mix a 2:1 mix as opposed to the 1:1 mix. I find the 2:1 mix is more stable, it is almost like jam. I only have 50+ hives. The bees take up the 2:1 mix readily. I buy my sugar in 20kg bags. It is quite cheap that way. I use Wedderburn commercial scales to ensure an accurate mix.

Yes, we mix at a rate of 2 parts sugar to 1 part water as well. The bees 🐝 love it and do very well on it.

If you know the dimensions of your pot, you can use a depth in millimeters of syrup to determine exact volume. Calculating the volume of cylinder will be a lot closer than "60 liters plus" measurement.

LOL Every Time Maths comes up in videos , Marks Old Maths teacher must go over to his BBM Mead supply and pours himself a very long glass. I'm Guessing the instructions people from Ireland might need to Help Mark out with his Bee Alive. In future might I suggest : pour out the syrup into the containers and then add the Bee Alive as you then know the volume of syrup and no need to guess? And Put a tap into the product Bottle so you stop wasting the nectar of the Irish( Hopefully the Guinness people will not object to this term I have used !) If the Bee Alive People want to send me a bottle I'd bee happy to try it also LOL! BTW, For all my fun and silly comments because I am having a great time watching, the one serious Comment - I would suggest it is remember when ever feeding the ladies sugar water -it can ferment. So filling up an in hive feeder on a week colony is probably dancing with the devil unless you are changing the syrup regularly - Temperature dependent. Trap for players, bad out come for bee keepers if the syrup ferments. Thanks for the fun, great video! Stay safe!

Put some hose on your tap. Make it so you can screw on and off while cooking the syrup. If you want to get extra fancy put a home-brew bottle filler on the hose to fill your jugs. No spillage then. Bloody top show though👍👍👍

It’s a master lock pad lock. A 5 year old child can get in to that lock with a paper clip.

I have 15 hives and i findt it mutch easyer to fill a 200 ltr. barrel and use a submersible pump, and let i run overnight, jobs done :)

Good video BBM when i got my bees last september i had a ceracell top feeder that i used ,ant problem ? when i checked it after a week it was full of dead ants tried again and after 3 attempts changed to a in hive feeder and have no more problems with ants , diamascous earth is supposed to be good sprinkled around the base , the ants just looked at me and laughed as they danced over it .

We mix 2 parts sugar to 1 part water. It works well and the bees 🐝 love it.
