Great info. Thanks for covering this. I started teaching at a paint and sip studio this year as a guest artist. People are so happy creating acrylic pour paintings and yes it is profitable. I'm charging $45, and give the studio owners 30% of sales. They do all the advertising, booking, and credit card charges. I pay for all supplies. My max. Class size is 10. Students do 2 paintings, 12 x 12 stretch canvas, and leave them to dry in the studio. It's alot of work for me to prepare and teach but also fun as it is my passion. I couldnt imagine teaching 26 students. That must have been wild.

This video is GREAT! And that checklist is so helpful. I have a couple of questions. I once had some of my family over and everyone brought some of their own paints and canvases and a few other supplies over, and we did acrylic pouring. I basically went through the entire process with them about how to mix their paints with floetrol and water, how to pour and all that. It was so much fun to do. But now I'm considering doing an acrylic pour "class" after work for some of my teammates and co-workers. For that I would definitely provide the materials unlike with my family, who used some of my materials and brought their own for some of it. So my questions 1. When doing an acrylic pour class, do you teach them how to mix the paints during the class, or do you have them pre-mixed and just teach them how to pour? 2. Since I'm just starting out, and wanting to do this more so as a fun way to bond with coworkers and have a nice calming activity after our crazy day at work, would it be ok to only charge slightly more than the cost of my materials for each person? That way I'm making a small-ish profit for my time and effort, but still keeping the cost pretty low for each person? Or would doing this be undervaluing myself? I don't want to undervalue myself but I also don't feel like I want to charge a whole lot over the materials cost at least for my first few times doing this.

That is an awesome checklist ... and a lot of great tips from you. Just curious, how many people were in the class where you made $800? I go to a lot of paint night parties, but think it would be great to teach one. Thanks for all you do !!!!!!!!!

I taught art at the college level. I had students buy their own materials. That way they learn to navigate an art store , and can look at the varieties of materials available. I always provided a check list for the students.

This was very helpful! I have one question tho. I am supposed to do an acrylic pour class/demo next month, how will that work with all the pours to dry? are people supposed to balance their painting on their way home so it does not run off the canvas?

Ideally they leave them there and come back and get them. If they must take them home, I have had them put it in a baking pan flat on the floor and drive carefully! But that's at their own risk, I advise them to leave them there :)

Average sip n paint here is $25 Wine included. I feel there is no way I could do it that price and include wine... No pour classes locally.

Thank you that was very helpful. Do you have a list of supplies and other things needed for a paint pouring class? I don't know whether to mix the paints before hand or teach them how to do it. I personally have not had success with the new pre mixed paints

Thank you for this video!! I’ve been wanting to do a pour class. No one is doing them that I know of here in northern Minnesota where I live. The biggest thing that is been holding me back is canvas dry times. what do you do or what do your customers/students do with their finished canvases?

She answered this question posted above by Valerie Mason... she said she advises them to leave the paintings and return at a later time to pick them up. If the 'must' take them right then, she said she tells them it's at thier own risk and has them use a baking dish and drive VERY carefully 😊

Hello there! I was asked to teach private lessons to a young artist, who mainly wants to learn watercolor, pen and ink… With the possibility of exploring other mediums as well… 2 1/2 hour long sessions once a week. How would you price something like this? $15 an hour is minimum wage where I live, so that would be about $37… But materials would vary from day today. Just wanted to ask another art teacher who does private classes or students … Thank you!

That was very helpful! Thank you! How do you advertise your classes? Did you start with just friends and family or did you start advertising right away?

Definitely started with friends and family. The prime market is women 30 to 50, so moms are a great market, plus local Facebook pages.
