That seems like the lowest hanging fruit to me as far as under-developed areas of the game but also one of the more challenging to develop and test (thinking about big elements like gas giants and changes to the stellar forge). I could see things like new exploration focused SRV's or landable SLF's focused on exploration being VERY popular though.

It's about the players having something to satisfy the curiosity of what's out there.

Bought all four early access ship so far. Highly likely to keep that up. Here's what they need to do I think. Develop and sell for ARX a whole variety of customisations for fleet carriers and the new colonisation starports and settlements. That would make these players owned locations truly unique as each player would/could deploy a varying set of aesthetics, colour schemes, clutter and so on. My wallet would fall open for that.

The antici.....pation! Excellent thumbnail. Fascinating breakdown and very encouraging. It would be good if, in addition to the year ahead roadmap, for that feeling of much longer term future to put some of the naysayers negativity-addled minds at ease and encourage more of that player engagement and investment we saw last year - that they also gave for example very broad strokes of aims and directions (not guarantees) in the next MULTIPLE years, e.g. by the end of the decade, lighting/graphics rework with newer technology, more exploration (planet types, life, gameplay mechanics etc.), more types of ships (or more gameplay mechanics OF ships), etc.

@@BLACKICEXlV Mechwarrior Online sell Mechs Pack for around what FDev does. Granted you get a bit more in Mechwarriors case with skins and if you pay a little more you get a hero mech. Really, they both use the World of Tanks monetization model. You can throw in SC basically taking WoT's model to ridiculous heights. But in the end, it's an old tactic that works. At least FDev had enough sense to price their ships at a reasonable price.

Frontier were right to expand their game library after launching Elite, but they, like many companies tried to expand too far, and burnt out with staff sadly suffering the loss of their jobs. I hope they learn to 'stay in their lane' and focus on what they do best, because Elite was the game that truly 'launched' Frontier and the one that was still there after they came back down to earth with a bump. ❤

I think there is a vast, largely untapped market for exploration in Elite. The problem has always been ship range and Frontier's neglect of this aspect of the game. I would guess therefore that the latest surge in player numbers has far more to do with the Mandalay than the reworking of the Powerplay. Hopefully the devs will now realise that people want to do more than just spend hours with their finger glued to the fire button and that there's actually a large pool of explorers who just want something worthwhile to explore.

After all that F dev had done in 2024 I finally decided to spend some money buying ARX to get ship kits and paints for my ships. Since the Odyssey update I vowed I would not buy anymore ARXs until they pulled their heads out.

Glad to see this game really lean into its largest asset with exploration. They say the games a miles wide and an inch deep, but its really a hundred thousand LY wide and a thousand thick! Hope they update the geology generator next! While this game is already beautiful, it has the potential to strike deep at that sense of wonder.

Rally good analysis of the current situation and comments that are being made about Elite. The numbers have gone up and it very much is because there are so many out there who love this game and want it to do well. I got one of those expanded DSS in a CG a few years ago. I assume this one is the same. I’m so happy that this game didn’t tank because it got me through some tough times in RL. Being able to disconnect for a few hours and just explore made a big difference in the way I handled my situation. I have almost 3k hours in game now and it’s still probably my favorite game of all time. Can’t wait to see some new exploration features while I continue my exploration of the universe. (We are Bob….lol)

It's not just expanded radius DSS, it's quad expanded. To scan a 6 probe planet you will only have to fire 2 probes. I think they need to release one more ship. A large, long legged transport with native SCO and 1000 ton capacity. To be mainly used for delivering Tritium to carriers and for mining (laser mining Tritium in particular). And an NPC based Tritium supply service would not be unwelcome. I don't mind waiting a week for a few thousand tons of Tritium. It would also free up DSSA carriers.

The beta test remaining persistent also creates a gold rush while thing are in flux. Costs are going to vary so picking your moment will be important, as well as the rush from prime locations causing perceived cost value to swing wildly. It will the interesting to see how it plays out

The Mandalay really helped sales coz its an incredible looking ship, please Frontier keep adding stunners and I will keep buying them. I wasnt too fussed with the 1st two to be released but I instantly dropped money on the Mandalay Stellar Pack and then the next day another skin and then again with the Black Friday skin. Would really love something like a Corvette Mk2 or Cutter Mk2 next please, Im really praying that they announce at least 4 new ships this year on the next FU stream.

@@chroma6594 you could still keep the rep lock though. Have a warning on the purchase "requires x rank to unlock in game. Purchasing does not skip the rank requirement". For those with the rank, the mk2 purchase makes sense. I know I bought a cutter paint job waaaaaay before I unlocked it because it was only gonna be available for a limited time - that was back before arx too. Eventually I got my cutter, added my paint job, and almost never ever see it LOL. Even if you bought early and then failed to get the rank in the 3 months, you still benefit from the reduced rebuy when you do eventually get the rank. I'd love to see an Imperial interpretation of the Mandalay, though a Cutter Mk2 would be pretty nice too.

I 100% will continue to pay for this game if they continue to grow. They need to give us some cosmetics and kits we can buy in game versus out of game though, along with a lot of new features if they want to keep us hooked. SC and Starfield has some stuff in it that needs to come over; ship interiors and crew having purposes on a ship for example, or being able to walk around with your NPC crew mates. These things would help us feel more alive - allowing us to sleep or rest in our own cabin while our NPC jumps to a plotted course for us, come on now that'd bring the player base WAY UP again. Either way, I'm traveling home from an exploration journey right now to cash in and to help prep for the expansion of humanity. We're going to rock this world baby.

Im glad the player investment is being returned into content allowing us to enjoy the game more and to keep on investing more for the future commitments, if a game like SC can rack up a huge sum with their promises alone, I can't see why FDEV can't mimic some same results (maybe not millions but big enough to keep E.D going) and give some actual content with less bugs. (Not hating on SC) As FDEV have already proven themselves to return the investment into content for us to keep it going. I returned to E.D to get the carrier by last week of 2024 and I just got my first 1B last week, now im rethinking to save up the billions and see how this new update works and if it better CR investment vs the carrier but ultimately I will eventually grab a carrier one day haha. Hearing the CEO is standing behind E.D is a great message to players because as mentioned in the video, we need to know if E.D will be here tomorrow and next month, too many great online games in the past been shut down or thrown into free to download and subscribe monthly with microtransactions ontop. I dont mind paying for some cosmetics, maybe a ship or two that doesn't make you the "ultimate winner" because pay 2 win is always a path of self destruction from the main fan base and only bring in toxic player base with more money than social life. I hope E.D continues for many years to go and prove some people who think E.D wont live long because of SC and other space games.

I _sincerely_ hope that colonization isn't limited to what a new Eagle can jump. If that graph is showing what an exploration angle can draw in, they need to make colonization something that can happen at some _meaningful_ distance from the bubble. Something that can break off from the bubble, not just make it bigger. We need to be able to scatter humanity all over the galaxy, not creep outward like frightened children. I've got the funds, and then some, for a new Fleet Carrier, and I've paused that purchase until I see what colonization will be. And frankly, the opportunity for stories to develop out on the fringes of humanity would multiply if we are more widely scattered among the stars. Raxla might be out there, or the latest iteration of the Guardian AI. Who knows? But it would take years to find out if we are too limited in our explorations. "Give. Me. Land, lots of land and the starry sky above. Don't fence me in...."

One thing I really hope in terms of monetization, is the fact that they fix the shipkits. Currently you can only equip one shipkit part per section of the ship which kinda sucks, because if you want to buy multiple shipkits and mix and match, you're only locked in for four options! Or rather, ONE option per section, and if you have a lot of shipkits like I do thanks to the Titans you just... Have very little reason to buy the shipkits. For example, on my Anaconda I already bought some of the ship kits with the Hazard and Survey, which I wanted to extend to some of my other ships, but with the base shipkit also coming into play... Out of something like 32+ pieces to choose from, I can only pick four? With some kits having multiple options per slot, which don't even interfere with each other? It sucks! I really hope this is something they'll fix. I feel like we're far enough into the game with people having powerful enough computers to allow for the various shipkits to run across each other, even if they "clip into each other" - which, spoiler news, they already do! So there's no reason not to I feel like.

I'm curious to see how revenue would be impacted by just new content without ships outside of pre-builts. I like new ships, but I don't know if thats a scalable plan, how many ships can you create before it gets reductive? Cosmetics are of course an option but I feel like they would need to be more deliberate than just having a pile of them, maybe more tied to in-game narrative stuff? I wonder if we'll start to see some PDLC's around colonization, like types of stations / settlements or livery?

When they announced colonisation launch I was very much like "What happened to the beta?!" So far they always had betas on their own servers. Was a no-brainer to me that this one will also be like that. Buuuut it seems we'll get it live from the get-go. Fingers crossed... And yes. Can we _please_ have more exploration content?! Like... something else than the equivalent of fishing in MMORPGS, which is exobiology?! Something substantial?! I really don't get why Distant Worlds 2 wasn't already enough to justify that...

Here’s my thoughts if they matter, Do you think about maybe the average age group of commanders in this game right I would venture out to say most of us elite dangerous players are not those chasing after call of duty titles, or fast paced Fortnite type games. I would venture to say that most of us play this game as almost therapy. We want this game to grow. We don’t necessarily need an elite dangerous 2, or 3. Or yearly released titles, but if there is a way to know this game would continue to grow and expand with new features I would assume most of us would spend our cash, knowing it would be returned to this game. P.S. I am still one for shipping interiors, purely for immersion so when I log out while exploring in the deep, I can land on a planet and hop in a little bed. Or hop in the bed while just in space and log out that way lol

I think it's hilarious that it took them this long to figure out Elite is their most valuable IP. I mean, I'm not even in the industry and, at least to me, it was clear as day that Elite would make them more stable and just plain more money than a couple of management games IF they supported it properly.
