My son bought me my GSD when I failed to commit suicide! She’s 18 months old now and is so clever at understanding my needs I’m going out three times a day now and managing to talk to strangers in a positive way The doctor understands that I take her everywhere and has made a note on my file that she is my service dog , this just kind of happened naturally and for the first time in years I go shopping by myself and my life has opened up hugely My problem is PTSD due to my time in the military and I have anger issues and anxiety I managed to convince myself that everyone is a idiot and not worth spit now I have other dog walkers I enjoy having brief conversations with It is not a exaggeration to state that my GSD has saved my life

I just got a gsd puppy that is living with the older dog and am terrified he will be the same way unless I have him around kids regularly, so it's quite the balancing act exposing my gsd pup while keeping the older dog out of the way. Ive raised pitbulls all of my life. They are good pups as well. I got a German Shepherd a couple of weeks ago. She is one who right out amazes me. She loves me like no other. Never leaves my side. She gets well taken care of here. Well behaved. The Lord Jesus has to be helping me with her. The people who i got her from. They obviously didn't know what they had. Nearly starved her to death. She was covered in her shit. Skin and bones. I took her home gave her a bath brushed her and been feeding her good snacks and her food. She's looking awesomely well now and she's one of the most well behaved loving pups I've ever had. 1 of the most loyal dogs I have ever seen in my life. She's one of kind. I feel that the Lord Jesus sent me to her. Because he knew that I would take good care of her. The way that she is with attitude and all. Its gotta be the Lord Jesus helping me with her. I don't know how to explain it any other way. She's definitely got a good and forever home here.

My wife and I rescued a beautiful Schutzhund GSD off of the street. Skinny, no toe nails, and very street wise. So skinny,... after 10 days of the best dog food you can buy, I came home to 10,... yes, 10 puppies! We had to hustle to get the proper winter set up. Cedar chips, enclosed igloo, and heating pad for the pups. We lost 3 because of a huge winter storm that dropped temps to below 0°F. Cie-Cie layed on them. But the other 6 did well. We've kept 3 of the pups. They will be 2 years old in December. Females are Miss Texas, and Faith. Panzer is our big boy. He's already 95 lbs. of lean muscle. Cie-Cie is 80 lbs. of pure Protection Dog. Very jealous of any other female being around me. She's not hurt any of our other dogs or cats, and prefers the company of our 18 lb. male cat "Maximilian". I grew up with a 135 lb. great-great-great Grandson of Rin Tin Tin. I thought nothing could compare with the love that dog had for my Dad, but I was wrong. Cie-Cie's sleeping beside me as I write this. I pray the old saying "All dogs go to Heaven" is true. God Bless y'all's GSDs, and yourselves. Alpha male signing off.

It's taken me a couple of months to fully win her respect, love and loyalty but it has been so worth it and I'll be gutted when this routine comes to an end. So much so I am currently looking for a Shepherd of my own to bring up to hopefully be her match and my very own constant companion. My Duke is the smartest dog I have ever had! Yes, he expects to have a routine every day! He loves kids, and wants to help me garden! I was spading and he jumped in the bed and started digging too! He tries to "herd" our cats and gets upset if they try to sharpen their claws on the furniture. He thinks that's his Job! I got my wheelchair stuck in my garden and my room mate had come in to cool off. Duke stayed out with me. When I couldn't get "unstuck" I said "Duke, can you go get Melanie? Get her! Tell her to help Mama! Mama needs Mama Melonie! He took off and went on the back porch, opened the kitchen door, and started whining at Melonie until she said "Where's Mama? And he started barking and started going to the door and stopping until she followed him and "rescued" me! She told everyone how he came and got her to come to my rescue! He's just so smart and seems to know things people don't believe a dog could know or understand.

He just did nothing wrong. The loss was crushing. I was not going to get another dog because I already had the best one and everything would pale by comparison. November 2019 I get a call from a shelter, Roki 2yr old GSD needs adopted, was set to be euthanized the next day. I went to meet him. Took him home that night! He's not Loki, he's not perfect, but in some ways he's better. The constant is the love and loyalty they give. I'm glad I took the risks and got another Shepherd, yeah he'll break my heart too, unless I go first. Remember no dog is truly dead so long as someone remembers, and loves them.

I've had four GSDs in my life. ALL were rescues! Two had been abused. But after a few weeks with me knew they were loved, and were wonderful friends and companions. The last one died young at 6 years old; Cancer. That was May 2018. I haven't been able to want another dog. Maybe someday. But I advise you to study this breed before taking them into your home. This short video helps, but there is much more you need to know... They WILL learn your routine, and hold you to it! If you're up at 4;30 Monday through Friday, don't expect to sleep in on the weekend! They won't let you "oversleep"! If you take a walk after supper, they will be ready rain, snow, or blizzard! Don't think you'll skip a day! They LOVE routine! My dogs all learned "work" meant I had to go away for a while, and they had to stay in "their room" (the utility room or Master bathroom.) They knew the sound of my car's engine too, and my coming home meant instant outside time!!! Again, rain, shine, or blizzard. But the Love and Loyalty they give in return! You'll never have a better friend!!! They are worth the constant shedding, the multiple walks each day. Everything!!! They are wonderful animals!!! If you have never had one before, do some research. If you have, you know what I'm talking about. If Love alone could have kept them young and healthy, they would live forever.

She's my fur baby! She's so incredibly smart, compassionate, loving, n always by my side! I take her to play w her half brother n his buddy every Friday. She knows her way there. As we get closer n closer to the house she gets so incredibly excited! Before anyone yells at me, she wasn't fixed cuz breeder told me 4 years old to fix her. Because of stunting bone growth n quite a few of health conditions. I wanted best for her! One Friday back in May when I thought she was way out of heat. She played w half brother n buddy. The buddy got her pregnant. Ahhhhhh! I can't believe what an incredible Mom she is n was to the 6 pups! I found great homes for all. Every home has been a previous GSD owner! I was very very picky! My husband n I decided to keep a girl. That pup has all her Mom's traits! That pup plus in another home will become actual Service Dogs! When I was 5 I had got bitten by a GSD! Not dog's fault or mine it was owner's fault. Was taken from that owner along w 4 other GSDs. This was years n years ago. I was terrified of them forever. However my best friend introduced me to her King Shepherd. I then realized wasn't dog or breed it's the owner. I will NEVER EVER regret getting my Athena! She's absolutely the best baby I have ever had! Now like I said I have 2. My Athena pure bred n the pup Princess Venus is a mix. I just can't enough great things about them !❤😊

Though he has a protective bark.I have owned 4 GS one at a time rescue dogs but not pups I can honestly say with time and TLC they all proved to be beautiful loving and protective members of my family until the end of their long lives ❤❤❤❤

Luna is my fifth GSD, rescued (at approximately age 3). I cannot imagine life without her. She has her own routine and keeps me on schedule. She isn’t a “dog” - she’s my roommate and best friend. I definitely do NOT recommend GSD for folks who aren’t prepared for this amazing companion.

I don't think of my German Shepherd as a "dog" either. He is highly intelligent, and he knows words, sentences, and their meanings. I never taught him any of that. He has a big box full of toys and I ask him sometimes to get me different toys out of the box, and he gets the right one for me, each and every time. They are truly amazing and wonderful dogs. I can fully understand why police use them, and that they are used in a variety of settings like Guide dogs, and dogs for the disabled.

My first GSD was when I was six. I'm now 69. And it's so nice to hear never be spontaneous because in my human life I've been condemned for lack of spontaneity. My current best friend is definitely the most challenging and definitely the smartest. He knows 19 words. Play it must be my fault he really acts like my ex-husband. Both of us know damn well he knows what I just said to him and he just plays dumb.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes. I have my first German Shepherd. My daughter bought her for me for my birthday this year after I had to have my last big dog put down there's just no time for heartbreak when you're chasing around a GS. I've had a Shepherd before but it was an Australian Shepherd but she was a small dog and this one is a monster already only 6 months old. She is extremely intelligent high energy drive very sweet and loving and also reactive. I feel very fortunate that I have always had big dogs and that I have had experience with many different breeds including pitbulls. It has been the perfect lead up to owning this GS❤❤❤

We have an amazing German Shepherd. You are so on point it is frightening, but wonderful. Thank you for creating this video since so many people adopt dogs without knowing their temperment and needs. I believe that is the reason why so many get dumped at rescues instead of loved. Having a GSD is amazing but also takes time and care.

I have had 3 German Sheppard's so far, the last one lived to be 13 years old and he was the biggest softy I have ever had. I had to bury him on my property Jan 25 2024. I told everyone that that was enough, I was done. Last week a young couple who have 3 dogs and a newborn got hold of me to ask if I would take their 7 month old female they got when she was a puppy. They did not know the breed and she was getting aggressive with everyone and everything. I have been working with her every day, and she reminded me what I have been missing. She is super smart and super protective. This breed is not one that can be left alone in a cage or apartment for hours while people work. This one will be saved and for the next 10+ years she will have a good home and support and constant training. Best dogs in the world, but can also be your worst nightmare if you don't have the time for them.

There are so many German Shepherds in the shelters, please adopt, if you can. They are amazing dogs! One day a lady dropped off a papered German shepherd puppy at the shelter . She told us she had read books, and watched videos on how to train a German Shepherd, but didn't realize ALL the time, x energy that it takes ro train a puppy. Three day later a guy and his wife come into the shelter , they had two GSD before and wanted to look at GSD's. I starting praying... I showed them the sweet GSD puppy and they adopted him on the spot. I was so happy that day for the puppy!

I’ve had Female GSDS my entire life. At 70 this is probably my last dog. She is 5 years old and my best companion. She goes every where with me. I trained her in CGC and a routine that provides mental and physical stimulation. This is my third female GSD and I wouldn’t have any other breed. Even at this stage of our relationship, she will challenge me to some degree. Shepherds are not for everyone but for those that want the best companion they will ever have and understand the breed there is no other dog.😊

I had to put my service dog down the last Wednesday this year. He was a true companion, friend and looked after me. He started having seizures and the vet was unable to get them under control. The last night before he was put down he seized all night. I hated to do it but felt that putting him down was the best thing to do. His genetic younger brother was born August 1, 2022 and I pick him up on September 24th. He will be trained as my service dog and just like his older brother will be trained for search and rescue as well. Waiting is hard but not much longer before I have the new pup. He will have the same name as his older brother. I felt that naming the new pup after his older brother was a way to honor a dog that had been so much a part of life for me. So, on to potty training, again.

I had to put my GSD down a month back since cancer got a hold of her, she had just turned 7 in march. I miss her so much and while I agree with your list I believe these are very general things and there is exceptions. My dog was alone 8 hour a day since she was about a year and a half but she knew that once I got home we were gonna hang out together and walk for miles or wrestle on the floor. I'm convinced she was happy throughout her life with me.

Hi Gordoxium … I am sorry to hear about the loss of your girl And I can relate to how you feel because I lost my boy of nearly the same age, two weeks ago. Also to cancer. He was magnificent and the best dog ever there ever was. We loved each other to bits and I am really struggling without him. I’m 78 and cannot start again with a puppy for his/her sake. But I am minded to assist if a mature GSD is in need and I can help. In the meantime I gave a small number of videos. By the way the best one I’ve seen on KZbin is German Shepherd dog in Ukraine rescued. If you watch that you will know exactly what my dog Buddy looked like and how he behaved

@@juliane3683 Absolutely gut wrenching to hear. There really is no substitute to a dog in your life. The limitless loyalty no matter what and the purity of their affection for their humans. I recall that even if I had a foul mood or was angry or frustrated it would just melt away as soon as I got home and my baby jumped to greet me tail wagging. It breaks my heart to not be able to pick her up and cuddle her ( she was the crazy type that enjoyed that ). Life is very bland and quiet without our pets... dying for salt and pepper but there is non.

So sorry to hear about your loss, we lost our Rosie at the same age some 6 or 7 years ago, Pancreatic cancer, she died in my arms at home. We had her and her mum Zena together, we lost Zena about 18 months later to a massive stroke. They were both black and tan and ex-police dogs. Not working though. Currently we have our 3rd GSD, a pure black, she's our pride and joy, just as Zena and Rosie were and Rex, our rescue Belgian Groenendael was before them. Currently
