Prices are going mad, use eggshells, rinse and microwave for a minute and then feed to birds whole when cooled....Great video, good to see experts have difficulties and not just novices! Thanks

Nice one Matt. I think these cold spells are confusing the hell out of the birds. It was below 0 up here the other morning when I when out. and snow has been predicted for next week. Keep at it. I am so sorry to hear about John Aidney. What a gent. RIP John.

Wonderful episode once again Matt. Really enjoyed it. Birdkeeping is a love hate affair as always. But we always keep the faith and the birds reward us. Some really nice birds there mate. Love your work.

Lovely birds.. so the end will ultimately be more of same!! 🙂 After the months of breeding season, every year is the same: 'wow, look at this one', 'that one's wonderful', and 'I didn't expect this one, but there he is'! It's never about numbers, it's quality. Your words, not mine! 😄

Yes keep the faith. I had a hen laying clear eggs, another who's babies died in shell, and then I had a pair that I just said the heck with it let me put them together, she laid 2 eggs and 1 hatched, the other died in shell, but I have a healthy baby I just put a closed band on so I'm totally happy even if I don't get anymore! I was just wondering if you have any advice for those dying in shell? I open the eggs and they are fully developed just a little too small to hatch. I give then 22 days just in case before removing them, but nothing.

How long after you mated a pear up will you give the nest pan?
@TheCanaryRoom2 жыл бұрын
I will often give a pan as soon as they’re mated, where I’m not running pairs I’ll put a pan in first

The gouldian season has been a challenge as well. Always a disappointment when they walk off the nest.

Hi mate sorry about you losing your goldie hen ive kept goldfinches for over 30 years and I hardly ever lose 1 what I do is I have 4 feeders on the front of my cages the same as yours but I noticed you don't use all of them I mix british finch with mixes canary with egg and fill the 2 centre feeders then I fill 1 with Niger and 1 with sunflower hearts inside the cage I have 2 glass pots 1 is always filled with grit the other with egg food I feed broccoli twice a week and apple once a week and always use 2 drinkers both filled with rain water hope this helps
@redpoll46282 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, especially the rain water. Don't suppose you keep redpolls?

I don't want to worry you further and I hope I'm wrong but eggs not hatching and dead in the shell can also be a sign of black spot. I'm not a fan of Grogg myself because it contains antibiotics that bacteria such as e-coli can build up resistance to. If you give it, give it from the time the hen starts building a nest until she has laid the last egg. This way there is the least chance that the e-coli will end up in the egg and infect the chick. It's a pity that your goldfinch has died ☹, as you say: they are indeed not afraid to die, but they are beautiful birds, aren't they. I only gave the birds a nest yesterday so I'm just getting started. Like you, I don't get rushed by other breeders who already have young on the sticks. Take it easy, enough time to breed young birds. Spring has just begun! Looking forward to next episode!

One of my canary died it was fine day before singing dancing around next day dead on floor .what's the reason of sudden death could it be a heart attack
@TheCanaryRoom2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear this, sadly it could be any number of reasons, although if it was in good health the day prior I’d suggest some form of shock or fumes have got the better of it
