I just did this job in a couple of hours. I did not have to remove the outermost air box on the passenger side and I used it to hold the various nuts, bots and tools. As far as the secondary air injection valves that are in the way, I just removed the top two bolts and left the tube in there. It is not in the way and I've read horror stories about breaking the lower studs that hold that tube to the exhaust manifold. It is a pain to fix if you break off a rusty stud on an expensive part. Remember, this fellow is doing this job of a pretty pristine looking FJ with zero rust. My 2014 with 175,000kms of Canadian weather isn't in the same condition. Broken studs and bolt heads can ruin your day/week so I only remove what's absolutely necessary.

Thank You so much!! I have just changed the plugs on my 2013 Trail Teams FJ at 92000 miles . Your method of instruction and clarity of video is sublime. Those key tips and tricks, like a magnetic socket meant the whole job went smooth as butter! One point for my style of learning, - I did the easy side first to get familiar with the process. You saved me $625 plus tax - local dealer quote!!!!

@@TM-gh8ie depends what year. I know for a 2010 (which is a 5th Gen) it is 20 ft-lbs and they recommend threadlocker on 2-3 threads. Toyota adhesive 1324 or equivalent. However, I used a blue threadlocker.

LAST I READ TO CHANGE A TIMING BELT IN A TOYOTA 4 RUNNER (2024 AND OLDER TOYOTA CHARGES $1,800.00 AND THAT'S JUST FOR LABOR. THAT'S THE "ONLY REASON " TOYOTA PUT A TIMING BELT IN SOME OF THEIR ENGINE'S, SO THEY WOULD MAKE EXTRA MONEY 💰 🤑 💸, IT'S A MONEY THING, JUST BECAUSE JUST BECAUSE.

I would have added a PCV valve replacement, but it didn't arrive in time. It's refreshing to know a novice can do a lot of their own PM's since Toyota made it easy to access the engine compartment components.

Watched your video to prepare myself. Fortunately, I was able to remove and replace plugs on the passenger side of my 2010 4runner, without having to remove anything! The plug on the driver's side closest to the firewall was a bit more challenging, but all I had to do was lift the harness off the hanger and work around the hoses. The other plugs on the driver's side came right out. Never saw the secondary injector you were referring to, but am glad I didn't have to mess with that!

Early 5th Gen, such as my 2010, don't have the secondary air injection systems to get in the way, making this job much easier and faster than shown. I also did not need to remove any air intake parts to access the passenger side plugs. For the entire job, I only had to remove 2 double hose guide brackets held on by plastic clips and 1 other metal bracket on the driver's side to get to the plug farthest in the rear (2 12 mm bolts). All the online videos appear to show later model 5th gen 4Runners which look way more complicated to get to all the plugs.

I just did this, removing the air intake would make more space, bit its doable just by undoing the air filter tabs, and first bolt, the two top flange bolts and moving the air pump. And on the driver side, the top flange bolts, move the air pump, and i did take off the bracket over the last cylinder.

Great Video!! THanks! What happens when you forget to re-connect the hose? :D I made this mistake and realized it after about 100 miles and watching ur video. Hopefully it didn't cause too much damage.

Hi! The car will run very rich at idle and possibly foul the plugs. The harm would be minimal if you don’t idle the engine a lot. If there was a lot of idling I’d pull the plugs and clean them and everything will be good.
