Very nice! I dropped my key from 5 floors high and it stopped working. I opened it following your guide and found out the battery housing was loose, and the battery wasn't touching both bottom and top, thus not making contact. A slight bending and it's working perfectly again. Thanks a lot, you saved me time and money!

Hi Raphael, you shouldn't need to. If the button isn't being pressed, then it won't wear the battery down. We've not seen a key battery leak, unlike some of the AA and AAA batteries that do.

If programming is needed, how is that done? I bought a used 2012 ds3 & the fob doesn't work, the dealer said the battery was dead. I don't doubt he thought that bc the car wasn't long in to them when I bought it. I replaced the battery (1620), didn't touch the wee bit you said and it still doesn't work. Brought it to a key cutting place and they said there's no signal coming from it and asked me if I put the battery in the right way 🙄 of course I did. I'm unsure if the fob is faulty or if it needs programmed. If it needs programmed, would it give off any signal? Thanks

Hi, if it’s not giving out a signal there are only three reasons. Either the battery is faulty, upside down, or the key itself is faulty

Thank you for your excellent explanation. I note the aluminium housing for the battery is considerably wider than the battery itself. As the battery is a standard 3v affair, is it possible to use a different model like a CR1632, for example?

It would work, but 1632 is too big for this slot, you could damaged the hausing

My ds3 key fob is falling apart. I've bought an aftermarket one and was going to take out internals and transfer them over and have a new key cut. Will it work as I'm not sure the transponder chip is within the key blade

Hi Brendan, Do you mean you have got a new empty case? Is it any good? We've been looking at these lately, but some of them are a poor quality. If you have got a new case, my suggestion is to get the blade cut and make sure it will turn the ignition. Then, open up the key and transfer the circuit board into the new case. Let us all know how you get on and please feel free to tell us where you got the case, so that other people can get one

My key fell apart so I ordered the plastic shell from amazon for about £10. I put the electronic part of the key into the plastic shell and the car opened and locked. All worked fine. I decided I would get the key cut as well however before I did, when I went to start the car using the original manual key it went into anti theft mode and would not let me start the car. I had to put the electronic key parts back into the original shell for me to be able to start the car with the manual key. I decided I would just get the key cut on my £10 piece of plastic and worry about the electronic part later. The key cutters told me they could not do it on the one I had purchased and I would have to use one of there’s. (hope you’re following this) all I want is a key that works without having to pay hundreds for a new one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any companies you recommend for new keys? Thanks for the video, I am purchasing one of the replacement fobs you can get on EBay it just has a blank and empty interior. So I intend to do place the circuit board into it from my one and only key fob and also take the blank blade out and replace it with the blade from my old fob. Can you give some tips as to what to look out for or can it be done at all. I know that the key blade and the circuit board need to be together in the fob but I don't want to go cut a new blank blade as I have a perfectly good one in the old fob,.Any help most appreciated.

Hi Gerald. There are two problems with this type of replacement case. Some of them are not very good! Sometimes when the circuit board is changed over, the buttons don't work, just because the buttons don't line up etc. But hopefully you'll get a good one. The other problem is putting your blade into the new case. The blade has a 'tang' on the end, it's the bit of metal you can't see because it's inside the hinge assembly. The problem is that the original manufacturers blade, may not fit into the new case correctly. You may need to alter the blade with a needle file etc. Let us know how you get on please.

Hi Kevin, these keys are terrible. Once the spring mechanism gets loose, as you describe, it needs a new case. Unfortunately, the replacement DS3 cases are poor quality, but your circuit board will fit into a standard Citroen case. I would recommend contacting a local car key man to sort this out as it shouldn't cost too much. If you were local to us, we'd charge £36, to give you an idea.

Hello Brendan. Yes the thing near the battery is the coil that makes the car read the transponder. If it gets damaged, the car won't start

@@TheCarKeyMan To be honest, I've not tried it yet. I didn't want to break it until I found out if there was a specific way of doing it. It did seem to want to just fall out the casing, which is why I asked. I'm using my spare key until I get a new battery anyway.
