Whenever someone asks me why I only run 10psi in my car and am totally happy with the 200 hp my car makes, I tell them, first it is a stock internal engine, and the second is to go check out your videos. Mainly because making that much power is expensive and you spend more time fixing stuff that breaks and sorting out other things and less time enjoying the car. When you are my age it doesn't matter how passionate you are about playing with cars, your priorities shift to more enjoyment and less issues.

For those curious about Quench (or Piston to Head clearance), you can still have Piston to Head contact even if the pistons are below the deck (cold). The reason it's not recommended to go below 0.030 in Piston to Head/Quench cold engine clearance is because as the engine warms up, the rods can stretch and decrease Piston to Head clearance. High RPM also increases this stretch. Combined with cylinder pressure causing piston rock, it can turn that Quench clearance into 0 or negative (pistons kiss head). Piston rock is exacerbated by the wide Piston to Cylinder wall clearance needed for Forged pistons (that expand a lot as they warm up). The recommended Quench clearance changes depending on the Rod material (and weight of the piston). Aluminum rods can require double or triple the Quench clearance as the aluminum expands much more than Steel. Greg, you rule, and it's always great to see you document the process of pushing limits. 0.020" Quench is freaking crazy for a high rpm, forged piston setup. And you proved it's just fine (heh, well, not catastrophic).

I just finished puting a 6cyl engine in my e30 that originaly came with a 1.6L, 8v, 100hp and realised how cool your engine looks with it's nicely painted parts and the exitment that you are getting with the boost. But because i am in a budget i sacrificed the 4cyl lightness for the ease of installation, cheapness and realiabilty of a 24v, 2.5, iron block. Thank you for what you are doing. Greeting from Greece.

@1dameister18 ай бұрын
Maybe machining the combustion chamber in the head would help, it probably will bring down the compression ratio, but you will still be able to run the pistons and the head gasket that's in the engine. And maybe try porting the heads (intake and exhaust) and change the turbo or the exhaust header from the head to the turbo for different one with more exhaust flow in mind at higher boost application. Greetings from Germany ✌✌

That cam and turbine housing will cause more issues than they solve if it’s out of its efficiency range. Put a pressure sensor on your exhaust side and if your backpressure is too high you might actually fix all your issues while losing little to no response with a proper size turbine on the turbo. And all while picking up power and making it safer due to lower risk of detonation.

I'm more impressed at your stamina to keep trying a different way every time, no matter what to make it work. I think a responsive 400 whp miata is probably an absolute blast to drive and if I were to go for more I'd agree a different chassis (cough NC cough) or at the least an engine with more displacement that is proven well above 400 by many many many people. The BP can make more, but theres not a ton of cars out there that are doing that. a K series on the other hand...

Fuel Line age probably is less to do with it, rather than the SAE 30R rating since you're running e85. If I recall it needs to be SAE30R9 or higher to be "rated" to be compliant with ethanol full time. Was this stuff that rating?

It may have a different rating from the other lines, just crazy because I've never had a fuel line so that, and I've been purely on E85 for the last 10 years with this car, all rubber lines. But yeah, very well could have been the issue.
