The one thing you always need to make sure of is your bait. If you make it yourself then you could already have an edge that other anglers don't. It's the second most important thing to me after location.
This film gives you that edge and more. It details twelve ingredients and seven recipes that will always bring you success. There are plenty of tips too to help you on your way.
There are no secrets in carp fishing, only knowledge and here is a big slice of it.

Hello from the United States! New to boilie making this year. Made three batches on this rainy morning. Two came out perfect. One was a bit too wet and turned out like little pillows. Your video has been the most helpful of all because it gave me the basic proportions. That was fantastic. I didn't need to add more liquid or flour and they rolled great. I wish I had access to many of your ingredients. Shipping costs for carp bait and tackle make it prohibitive. Carp aren't fished for much here. I'm having a ball with them this summer. Anyway, thank you for the most informative biolie video I've watched out of about 100. :) Have a great day.

Hey Steve! I want to thank you for all the effort you put into this channel over the last years. In fact your River Cam Quest got me into targeting the big river carp around here. Furthermore thanks to your bait making videos i tried rolling my own boilies this week. This mornig it all secluded not only into 3 nice fish and a double run but also in a new PB. It was a giant german river common weighting in at about 40 pounds! You are the man! Keep up the awesome work!

I too haven't made boilies/hookbaits since the 90's , always relied on good ready made bait then rehydrated with additives before use , and glugged/glazed my hookbaits. To make bait once again and know from start to finish I've put the graft into every aspect of a catching my quarry would be an extra buzz I've over looked through " not got time/cba to make my own " excuses . Bless ya for the video fella , looks like I'm going to dabble in making some bait again ;p . Steve M

Excellent advice on dry ingredients, especially the fact semolina causes the mix to expand once rolled , I was totally unaware of that , so instead of 50/50 semolina and soya , I will be reducing the amount of semolina in my mixes as this has caused me no end of problems rolling , so many thanks for the footage and advice 👍 keep up the good work

very educational video. I noticed you havent used much oil in any of your recipes. I am typically using 5 to 10 ml per 100grams. I foudn everything to be sticky without it? Also very interesting about semolina swelling. I wasnt so aware of that, it will help me in my pop ups as they are swelling far too much during boiling.

@TheCarpCatcher
@TheCarpCatcher 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it took a lot of effort to get it done but was something i had been wanting and needing to do for many years. Even though we can now buy extremely good bait easily it's still something special to make your own bait and it always will give you an edge if you get it right. Winning formulas never last and you should always be looking to stay a step ahead. It's also a very important part in learning about bait, the more you make the better you become. But stick to the simple rules and recipes, if you go complicated and use everything you can think of in a bait you'll be wasting your time and money. And when it doesn't work so well you won't know which ingredient/s are responsible.

Should be soluble but if you want to make them more soluble than you need to use water soluble binders like whey gel instead of eggs. Do it in test batches like the film to get it right. Remember your recipe needs to allow you to roll quantities easily.

This has been so helpful, new to making my own baits so your video has answered so many questions for me! What are your views on the pre-bought mixes for well known brands (like cell for example). I know it's more expensive but a lot of fishing is down to confidence and I "KNOW" that cell works cos I got my P.B. on it lol... just curious to your thoughts
@TheCarpCatcher
@TheCarpCatcher 5 жыл бұрын
Whats the point in using an expensive basemix and rolling your own? you might as well buy them ready rolled for the few extra ££ Making your own mix and fishing with it is far cheaper and just as effective once you have a sound recipe (Which you have in these films) and is entirely why you do it. Try the Pre-digested/Salmon oil mix, it's as good if not better than the cell.
@mattstackwood3054

Wow I have watched a fair few videos over the past week after being in isolation. Thinking to my self what can I do now I have spent 3 days cleaning my gear. I know Make my own boilies all the other videos haven’t been very informative. Just use all these expensive ingredients from well known bait companies so you are still not saving or learning anything. I have learnt a lot thanks. Just the challenge of trying to get the base ingredients. All the equipment is on its way. Thanks

TheCarpCatcher I got all the ingredients of eBay last night including ccmoore clo. The only item I can’t find anywhere is Red Robin. But that substitute will do just fine. Thanks for the help. Hope it will cure the boredom.

Great videos. I just made the first batch with the condensed milk. They came out great although lacking in flavour. Any ideas why ? Cheers

Also, any tips on freezing if making in advance? Would you still dry them before you freeze them etc? Sorry, just a noob interested in sound advice 👍

Yes same procedure, either use them or freeze them after overnight drying

Great informative video, for anyone new to home made boilies. I used to roll me own baits, way back in the late 1970's, by hand, no rolling tables then. Ingredients were purchased from a company named 'bait 78' and later by Geoff Kemp. Interesting, after watching your video, decades later, than when I used to roll them, that not a lot has changed, apart from say the quality of the ingredients available today and a few additions to the range. I currently purchased ready made baits and having good success. on CC Moore's pacific tuna. The BIG question is, does making your own boilies, catch you more carp, in todays pressured lakes? By purchasing off the shelf, I'm already ahead, having several more hours at the lake, rather than grafting in the kitchen making them myself.

I think first of all an understanding of bait is important. Also making your own bit and catching on it is the ultimate achievement. The cost is usually half what it is in the shops, sometimes a lot more. To make 5Kg takes a few hours and like anything you put effort into it makes everything so much more worthwhile. Part of the success i have had is that my baits are very different to most, unique in fact. This means far less fish will have been caught on them and so you will have far more chances. This is proved by the bait revolution in the 1980's where we found that baits would 'blow' after a number of captures on it. Yes the carp were still eating the bait but when it came to one on a rig they were obviously far more cautious. When a change in bait was made you stated to catch again. Back then we also learned that if you could keep what you were using a secret, you would end up catching more than anyone else. These facts are still applicable today. Many of the problems associated with the above have been overcome with the rig revolution, a cautious carp can be caught more easily now but then everyone is using these rigs too... It's easy to buy off the shelf and there is nothing wrong with that, there are many good reasons for it, but if i was to buy off the shelf it wouldn't be from a major manufacturer i would be looking for something more unique. If your fishing the same as everyone else (and this includes using the same or similar baits) you will end up catching the same as everyone else.
