Ohhh, you finally got me on my first trip to New Orleans. What an absolutely beautiful city that is. Maintaining its own special character since it began. With a long history of hardship and its most recent terrible hit with Katrina. The images you showed give strong reminders of the St. Elisabeth flood in the Netherlands 1953. My mom and various people from her generation told stories on how they were confiscated to help cleaning up all the flooded houses, drowned animals and associated work. Stories told also of the immense support in men and machines from our war allies: the americans and canadians. Without them we'd be lost. i don't think i would succeed in living permanently in New Orleans, but i would revisit frequently since there is so much special to see. Does anything come after New Orleans? Yes, West to go my friends, go with the sun and the big ocean. This was a magical episode for me Jacob, thank you so much!

I lived in Chalmette,Louisiana for a long time.its right outside the French quarter and the entire area was submerged and now after hurricane Isaac if you go past Chalmette and the "Wall of death" and go to plaquamines parish the whole area looks like a museum of a ghost town. No residents and boats and houses up in trees. Nature is truly impressive.

I was working for Academy when New Orleans was Flooded. I volunteered to get there for a relief team and when i tell you It was the most saddest site to see people loose so much and be hopeless. I met some of the most kindest people who had such amazing strength in such a hard time. Im glad they have flood house and Musuem as a reminder of what New Orleans went through and how they bounced back from it. This is just a reminder of how precious is and how at flip of dime everything can change in a second. Another great Vlog Jacob.

I normally don't comment out of anxiety but I'm so happy to see you visited New Orleans! I was born and raised in Louisiana so don't mind my little ramble below. The French Quarter is my favorite spot to visit, and I never realized how much is there that I actually missed since most of it is more appealing to visitors! Usually I like catching the sounds of the street performances and visiting the vampire shop! The shop is actually way off from the rest of the shops i usually visit but I adore that little shop, I even was fortunate enough to get myself a pair of top and bottom fangs that are custom fit to my teeth! I also attended my first ever pride parade in the French Quarter, which is why you may see rainbow flags hung up on some stores! Those flags tell parade goers that the shop is lgbt friendly if I'm not mistaken. Fun fact, during category 4-5 hurricanes (such as Katrina or Ida) some people can be out of electricity and even water for months! Recently when Ida hit us I got a taste of that myself, as I was too young to remember Katrina when it happened. It certainly can be a traumatizing experience to sit through one of them, especially if you've never been in a category 4 before. Personally, I got hit by the eye of the storm and some places STILL haven't fully recovered from it.

I love all the colourful houses/buildings. Likewise, I am impressed with your knowledge of voodoo. I would love to try king cakes one of these days. That bathroom looked dirtier than any port-a-potty I've ever seen. Gross. And $5 for the arcade fortune teller! Dear god. Thanks for showing us what you eat. I love that. Calliope St is pronounced Cali Ope. By the way, I must have PTSD... all parts of your video that has to do with Katrina brought back some bad memories... Thank you for complimenting my city!!! BTW, I have Marie Laveau's ORIGINAL "Black Cat Ju Ju". A lady named Marlene bought Marie Laveau's house to turn it into a bar. The Voodoo Lounge. After Katrina, we had to gut the building and remodel. We found a wooden box under the floorboards. We thought it was Marie Laveau's hidden fortune of gold! When we opened the box (crypt) Marie Laveau's precious pet cat was in it as a perfect mummy!!! Let me upload some pics and try to edit a link. Also, I made a plexiglass display case where Marie Laveau's cat was displayed at the Voodoo Lounge. That property changed ownership again, and the cat is supposed to be on display at Marlene's new bar - The Voodoo 2 Lounge. I was working at an ambulance company in Michigan when Katrina hit. Within days, volunteers jumped into packed up ambulances representing every ambulance company in the State formed a huge convoy to help with the rescue efforts. The photos and stories they brought back were sad and horrifying. Tragic as Katrina was, it did force City, State, and Federal officials to sit down and clearly define assignment of duties in the event of an impending future disasters which has lead to better coordination for evacuation and rescues. It also prompted a redesign of the levy under the advice of engineers flown in from Holland a country who's very existence relies on dikes and levies. So far the levies have held firm through several more Hurricanes.

I was ten years old when Katrina hit. My grandparents house was completely destroyed and is now a concrete slab. My dad almost had us stay in that house for the hurricane, but fortunately we fled to Covington and stayed with my horseback riding instructor. We didn't suffer flooding there and no one was harmed, but we went without power for a very long time, and I was out of school for several months. I just remember hiding under a bed with my childhood dog and playing Kirby on my Game Boy Advanced during the storm and the following days I helped take care of the horses while the dad's all teamed up to gather generators and try to open the roads back up.
