That idea of finding and riding all the antique carousels you can sounds like a noble quest to me. Also I agree with you about the older, scuffed up horses. To me, that just makes them a veteran, a survivor of decades of a great summer day, and I'm of the age where, if you don't shout "Hi-Yo, Silver! Away!" You're missing out.

I live in Chattanooga, but haven't been to Lake Winnie in years. It hurts my heart to see The Castle turned into the Wacky Factory. The Castle was my favorite and two stories. Glad to see the scary elements. Love your videos. Also, the water that the carousel and Wacky Factory is in was the old swimming pool that was used for years.

It used to be my favorite ride there. When it went onto the second floor at one point you came outside and there was a little dip before it turned and went back inside. They've destroyed it. I always loved the horror artwork on the front of the building. At least it still has the original ride carts. The really should try and restore it.

I remember that boat chute. My dad used to earn extra money running it off and on for many years, He ran it before I was born, I am 58 now. He was running it even in his 70s. He is 92 now. There was also a stage behind the haunted house, and My dad would take us to watch some of the country singers that would come to perform, I remember Loretta Lynn was singing one evening, and she swallowed a moth, that choked her up a bit. Yep good times

Interesting fact for you about the water around the haunted wacky house. That use to be a swimming pool. Many years ago (early 60’s) my Mother was on a school field trip when one of the kids on the trip with her failed to get back on the bus to leave. They went back to look for him and found he had drown in the pool. The pool eventually closed after that incident and ironically, the haunted house was built over it.

Jacob, because the name of this lake reminds me so much of Lake Winnipesaukee here in New Hampshire, I thought that next time you're in New Hampshire you could visit the world's largest arcade "Fun Spot" in Laconia NH, which is where Lake Winnipesaukee is. It's a beautiful area you'd love it. Very close to the White Mountains where you traveled to before!

Thank you for visiting a childhood memory of mine. Lots of fun times feeding popcorn to the carp. The boat chute is definitely unique. My family is from TN, but Lake Winnie was super cheap in the 1980s. They used to have a very cheap gate fee so the parents did not pay much & let their kids buy tickets for the rides. And they let you bring in coolers to eat at the picnic areas. As an adult my husband and kiddos enjoyed living in Rossville for ten years we were close enough to hear the screams from our yard, and also watch the fireworks. Thanks for letting us visit through the video! Your patreon fans, The Smiths!

I loved this amusement park it was so cute!!! There was a really sm amusement park in my home town called clown town, it had a merry go round, airplane ride, train, pony rides, push cars, a sm coaster, sm ferris wheel, moon walk, and 8 trampoline that were in the ground. Oh I loved it many people who grew up in Hutchinson loved clown town, sadly it is long gone, but those trash cans you showed they had at clown town. But what is funny if you go to Google earth you can still see were the trampolines were. Then Wichita had Joyland and it is sadly gone, that was a terrific park I think the owners Had troubles with insurance or something. But it was a classic park with a great wooden roller coaster. Love your videos

This park reminds me of a few parks in Ohio...long gone. Idora park in youngstown ohio had a boat ride, the lost river had drums playing. It was a long dark ride/boat ride. Had animatronics that would scare you. But in its decline in the 80s, it was just dark and smelly water. Had a hill climb that dropped into water. Was cool in its day. A fire , for the most part was the cause of its closure. If you're ever in NYC, Jane's carousel is the merry go round from Idora park. They bought it and restored it. The park had 2 amazing wooden roller coasters. The Wildcat and the Jack Rabbit. After the steel mills closed, economy, the park went into disrepair. It started as a street car park.

Loved their Fly O Plane, a rare ride these days made by Eyerly who designed vintage, well built, interactive steel rides like Rock O Plane, Spider and Octopus. They are virtually indestructible like most things made in the first half of the 20th century. But you’ll always have riders that ignore rules and safety devices even on rides like those. Kennywood had a Roll O Plane for many years, not he sure if it’s still there.

THAT DANK LITTLE TUNNEL ON THE BOAT SHOOT is where a lot of young people had their first kiss, while on a date or during a school excursion trip. In 1971 they had a shooting gallery where your fella could win a stuffed animal, the cloth hairy fuzzy kind, while shooting at targets of sorts.I grew up in Chattanooga. When I was a child my great grandmothers birthday became a huge family reunion every year, til her passing over, right there. She was 93, I think, or older at her last birthday there. We would have a huge picnic with fried chichen, hamburgers, hot dogs with all that goes well with everything. Add watermellon and birthday cake and churned ice cream. There were many picnic tables there. It had an overhead shelter with the sides having no walls where you sat at your table and nice grills that we used. A grown cousin would give all of us children a bunch of tickerts to go on the rides. Then he would give you more when you came back later to the get together. It was beautiful, wonderful, memorable and a whole lot of excitement and fun. I am in my late 60's now. It has been wonderful sharing your day there with you. It is a little piece of magic there. Thank you darling. This is Mrs. Ace X, in Florida.

There was once a ride like the Boat Shoot at Wildwood Amusement Park in MN, but it sadly closed in the 1930s. I do believe there were several rides like this back in the day that went into natural bodies of water, but most of them have been removed due to safety issues, probably due to the cleanliness of the water and creepy things that could happen like amoebas getting into your brain (which sadly closed the River Country water park at Disney world in the 1990s)
