In case you haven't been told this 7,000 times already, in Pittsburgh, "Kennywood's open" is code for "your fly is down." Also, my mom is in her 80's and she loved Noah's Ark when she was in high school. I'm so glad they've kept it around.

We used to have another amusement park in Pittsburgh’s North Hills-Kennywood’s nearby rival- but it closed in the late 1970’ We used to visit both parks in the summers- I miss having Westview Park!Kennywood’s marketing would visit all the Pittsburgh area schools and we each had our school’s special day when our band and groups marched in the parade! Buses left the school to take us to and from Kennywood !

Just because you are single and childless doesn't mean you can't go to Kennywood! I love going to amusement parks by myself. There are no hungry, tired, cranky kids to care for. You can ride the rides you want to.

Thank you for recording this video. I grew up in the area and went to Kennywood 2-3 times a year when I was younger and into my late 20s. Ever since I got hurt, walking isn't the easiest thing. This takes me back and I love seeing how while somethings have changed, the vast majority of the park hasn't. Love the video dude.

I was very fortunate to grow up in a house just a few streets from the park on the hill. We were close enough that my summers were filled with sounds from the park without even going there. The coaster lift chains, the screams, the music, the sounds from the stage acts (when they had them, specifically the human cannon act), and more. We could watch some of the rides and see the lights from our home. I had several relatives work there and three of them do today. I was truly blessed to grow up next to my favorite park. I left there at the age of 20 in 1974 but have been back many times.

My FAVORITE park (Probably because its like 15 minutes away from me LOL! Some interesting facts about the old mill... The paddlewheel in front of it is used to move the water and the boats (no pumps). There are lots of orange cats now in the ride as a tribute to the old Garfield ride and the train / and coyotes were originally in the 'Gold Rusher' ride (Now Ghostwood Estates). Also the big spider in Ghostwood Estate was also originally from Gold Rusher (It used to come down from the ceiling)
@kaydub06232 жыл бұрын
The coyotes actually weren't originally in Gold Rusher. They were originally from Haunted Hideaway/Old Mill, so they're finally back in their home!
@thatadventureguy79082 жыл бұрын
@@kaydub0623 They were actually originally from the Gold Rusher. (If my memory is correct they used to hang out around the train and one other scene with TNT)... This quote is from Scott Simmons who worked on the Old Mill re-theme: "Simmons: Once we started thinking of this as a reboot and tribute to Old Mill I started thinking about all the other old dark rides, and wondering how we could work in Easter Eggs and references to them as well. Kennywood still had existing props from Gold Rusher which were able to incorporate, such as the Coyotes and a locomotive animation. Nothing original from the Old Mill was still around but we were able to create our own new versions of those classic gags and scenes - albeit it with new twists. The ghostly iron worker has returned, but now he’s working alongside the coyotes from Gold Rusher, for example. "
@kaydub06232 жыл бұрын
@@thatadventureguy7908 had to double check with a friend of mine who knows the park like the back of his hand, and you're right, they're originally from the Gold Rusher. My bad! I thought I could've heard somewhere that they were built for the hideaway but I guess they were wrong. 🙃

I was born in Pittsburgh and love Kenneywood Park. Noah's Ark was my favorite attraction there. That's not a statue of George Washington. It's a statue of William Penn who was the founder of Pennsylvania. Thanks for sharing this with us.

No, it’s George Washington. Not sure if the sign is still there because I haven’t been in years, but there was a sign that said “George was here” before explaining some of Washington’s travels. I will never forget that statue because I liked his hat. ☺️

Oh, YUM. I grew up visiting my aunts who lived just down the road in Duquesne. Kennywood was the highlight of the summer. My uncle's company had their picnic there and he got us reams of free tickets! You brought your picnic baskets and coolers and you could leave them unmolested in the covered picnic area. The adults kept the tickets and so kept tabs on the kids who had to return every half hour for more tickets. We were worn out by the end of the day. This was back when there was the humongous swimming pool that I longed to enjoy - but the aunts were sure we'd get polio there. No proof of course. Same with soft ice cream. Never made the connection myself, but I was an adult before I had my first soft-serve.

We in Western New York and Southern Ontario had a Laughing Sal as well. She chortled at visitors as they entered a dark ride called "Laff in the Dark," which was sold and removed from Crystal Beach amusement park in Ontario when the park was torn down in 1989. This just about broke the hearts of everyone who remembers the park. So long live Kennywood!
