These are the most interesting quilts. Is Quilt Con exclusively a showing of modern quilting only? Wow, the quilt done in only cross stitching blew me away! Yes, thread color matters for sure. Thank you.
@TheCatBirdQuilts11 ай бұрын
Quilt Con is put together by the Modern Quilt Guild, so yes I do think they try to showcase modern quilts exclusive, Linda. It's crazy to think that there are that many modern quilts (2342 quilts submitted, 470 accepted) out there for us to see!!

Thank you for breaking QuitCon in to categories.. alot of creators try to crame everything in 1 video and those who couldn't attend can't enjoy the quilts bc they are in 'drive by mode'

Joan---it is so true! I'm thankful for any KZbinr offering images and shots of the quilts, but it's hard to really see them unless you get close! Unfortunately we didn't get every category (and certainly not EVERY quilt even in the categories we were able to get to!) 😱 But we tried our best!

Thank you for sharing all the details of the hand quilting of these beautiful quilts. Especially! Walking after Midnight. She’s a friend, and I’ve been unable to see this quilt up close and personal. So amazing- everyone needs to know, the maker is only 16 yrs old. She has the quality of a long experienced quilter.

Oh my lord!! You will need a vacation from your vacation!! Your quilt con tour was the most comprehensive tour I have seen!! The time it took and the editing your husband did had to be monumental!! Remember, sometimes it is okay just to enjoy what you are experiencing rather than be the voice for everyone else. That being said, thank you both from the bottom of my heart for doing this series. It is truly a great editorial of Quiltcon. There should be a special award for doing this!!!! You would take top prize!! Greetings from MN and my sewing table.

ALL of your QuiltCon videos have been so appreciated. I have not stuck with watching anyone else’s videos or still shots of their time there. The difference? I appreciate you give full details on the tombstones. Also, thank you for filming when the show is low attendance so the noise level is minimal. Paul, great filming! I can tell you appreciate quilts as much as Cathy. You keep the panning slow and in focus. Thank you for giving us time to really see the details.❤ Well done to you both!

Thank you, Kathy! ❤️ It's funny that you thought we filmed with low attendance! Actually we filmed all day Friday and Saturday and it was PACKED! 😂 Paul worked his magic in camera angles and sound editing which is why it seems like it was empty. So he is the REAL MVP!

Having not gone to the event, I thoroughly enjoyed these videos of QuiltCon show quilts and your tour! The quilts are all very inspirational and motivating. I truly appreciate Paul getting close-ups with the camera so I can see the stitching and piecing! I enjoyed a laugh at your statements about not touching the quilt. Perhaps bring a wooden or bamboo skewer or chopstick next year for pointing without fingers! 😊

I love your approach to looking at the artwork (quilts). I wish you could talk about all of them, longer. There is so much to see and think about each one: techniques, fabric, thread, quilting, emotional response. I have enjoyed all your videos. Of all the tour videos,I have seen yours are so so watchable, I watch them again on slow motion. Thanks to Paul as well for putting the footage together. A long time ago (and far away😊) I saw some videos of Sister Wendy , a contemplative nun (lives in silence) looking at paintings and she had a lot to say about them. Just one painting per video.

We so appreciate you taking us to quiltcon 2024. Many of us will never get there. I've watched all the videos so far and while there are many talented quilters represented, I'm a traditionalist with regards to quilt designs. AND, just let me add, I found gore entry much more pleasing to my eye than many of the ones who were awarded. No, I'm not teasing...nor do I feel I'm prejudiced. Just my humble opinion. 😉

Thank you, Tina! ❤️ It's interesting about considering all these [art] quilts and my own quilting---there is a place in me, I think, for good ol' patchwork quilting using fun, pretty and interesting quilt patterns AND for exploring creativity and perhaps more art-style quilting for my own growth/satisfaction (and maybe quilt shows? maybe?) But for now, I have to finish up some of my dang WIP's! 😂

I have a question. How has Quilt Con weathered the economy & Covid? Today I attended our sewing fair. It was had over 350-400 vendors. Maybe 100-110 now. I do not think the organizers are at fault. People were in a nice mood, but it seemed so tired. I was wondering if this is a trend?
@TheCatBirdQuilts11 ай бұрын
I’ll be honest, Lorrie, I’ve only been to one other QuiltCon and I was so overwhelmed that I didn’t know up from down! The conference seemed very well attended, lots of booths and people seemed pretty enthusiastic to me, so I think it did pretty well! But mine is an uninformed, observer-only opinion!

@@TheCatBirdQuilts I hope it was spectacular! I saw your quilt report. Our sewing expo does not have a quilt show. I wonder if that is the key to regrowing the event. It certainly would be fun!

This was my first Quilt Con, so I can't compare to previous years. And I don't know how many vendors there were. I got to the vendors on Saturday afternoon. By then many vendors were saying, "we're sold out of that" "Those went the first day." I saw lots of people shopping and buying. The energy was high. Some booths were so crowded I could not walk through them. In my experience of quilt shows, Quilt Con appeals to more people under the age of 50 and I think that makes a difference in the kind of energy there. Not better or worse, just different.
