I like what you've done here, and it has taken the texture to the highest level, and I get that you are teaching all the nodes for the greatest level of detail but, I'm creating a lawn for an archvis project and always keep at the front the level of planning the render time I add by any actions. As you aren't really close enough to individual grass blades and they are not the focus, would it save much processing time by dropping the displacement and Normal nodes from the tree? Afterall, when you stand back and look at a yard, you don't really need to see the veins in a grass blade raised up. The color, roughness, and alpha seem enough to gain a realistic yard.

I spent an hour to discover that we need to type lowercases in 'Attribute field' :) Anyways. Thank you so so so much for sharing your tricks. It helps me a lot in my woodworking craft.
@TheCGEssentials3 жыл бұрын
UGH - I'm really hoping they add a drop down with the different kinds of attributes that we can just click on. It feels very "hacked together" the way that it is and it's easy to mess up little things like this
@cyber58733 жыл бұрын
This is cool. The origin point thing had me stumped for awhile but you answered that question in the comments. Fixed that. My grass blades then were upside down - that took me awhile to realize my selection in UV Ed was inverted. Fixed that. Im not fond of the CTRL J instead I make them a collection and then I can use all of that collection or just part of it which seems more logical to me. I hope these oddities and variations help someone.

Will it render faster with nodes compared to using a particle system? Curious what's the main benefits using nodes instead?! :)
@flyingjudgement Жыл бұрын
With nodes you can skip half the video and generate endless type of instantly modifyable grass. Than you can specify how you like to spawn them with lots of complexity, no performance benefits I think.

@TheCGEssentials3 жыл бұрын
At the moment no - I've heard there might be a node for this, but I don't know what it is
@JedHurricane3 жыл бұрын
It's already in the point distribute node, click on random, and you'll see a new option called poisson disk, that allows you to adjust the minimum distance, so the objects don't overlap
@jeffg46863 жыл бұрын
Thanks for share. Regarding the density attribute of point distribute node, do you happen to know if this is for tying to weight paint masks? docs say "The name of the attribute to use for influencing the point density", but didn't know what types of attributes are allowed here. Seems like the doc is a little generic to leaving it open to several things rather than just WP, but I would imagine WP mask could be used here.

My grass seems to be going through the mesh of my plane. I've used a cloud texture with a displace modifier to get a better random ground layout. Im not sure if that's the reason?
@TheCGEssentials3 жыл бұрын
Is the origin of the grass you're using at the bottom of the grass object? It should be placing your grass based on the origin location

@4:18, select the UV map - then what keystroke enables the square cursor (to shape the blade of grass?) - Nothing happens on mine (Blender 3.1) . The UV map is in grey shades , although on the plane in the shader editor, the green grass displays as green.

That feature is in the same point distribute node, click on random, and you'll see another option called poisson disk, you can adjust the minimum distance so that the objects don't intersect each other.

Is this heavier on computer resources than using a hair particle system with an instanced object? I generally can’t orbit around my model with a really dense particle system (500k+) in use if it’s visible in the viewport.

Vid quality isn't nice. Try HandBrake app to render your vid's smaller with a setting of at least 18. Less quality loss and less file size .... When watching you vid, nodes are barely visible to read, specially when you zoom.
