The present outcome of events may look like a 'victory' to the west, but this is actually a dangerous situation. Supporting HTS (a Jihadi terror group, afterall) is going to have consequences once the dust settles down. Eventually, their focus will shift outward, causing greater instability in the region. Since the US has a prominent interest of protecting the oil-fields, they may try to rally for separation and self-determination of Kurds. The possibility of Syria splitting is not far-fetched, that could become a way to weaken the HTS and at the same time keep a check on Erdogan.
