Saville Row nr 1 the walk just starts and we are welcomed already by a gentleman with a bowler hat! Only in London. At 9:26 I can't get over with that double breasted Grey suit!! A Huntsman suit is my dream. Beautiful walk. Thank you very much Ash.

Why thank you, now I'm near drooling over this suit again (9:26), already got a striped double breasted suit in navy when Kingsman came out!🤣 So many things I'd love to get... let's play the lottery, that's the most likely way to go shopping there without limits!😂 Thanks Ash! I love that you have the confidence to tour Savile row in..... A Hawaiian shirt!... Hat off to you, sir!.... Also Ash, being ex-job, I'm surprised you didn't mention the unusual fact that, tucked discretely away amongst the tailoring houses, is one of the largest metropolitan police stations. Strange, but true....

Ash thank you for the tour of Savile Row. I always look forward to your videos. I thought you might be wearing a linen suit though. 😉. Still great content. Abercrombie & Fitch used to be a very high end outfitter and sold to people like Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway and Clark Gable. They went down hill after being bought by l believe the Gap. Hi Ash, Not clothing related - The Beatles had their Apple Corps H.Q. at 3 Saville Row and did their famous last ever live performance on the roof top at that address. Just a bit of trivia, whilst looking at the tailoring premises.

Savile Row is really in the very heart of greater London, which is immensely expensive as regards to accommodation, I stay in an ex-servicemen's club (The Union JAck Club) some 1-mile away for very reasonable prices - if you have been in the military or emergency services the Union JAck Club is an amazing option.

I wonder if the tailors that I can just about remember in our towns and cities around the country could produce the bespoke stuff found in London now? My late dad told me it was common for most people, even the fairly poor to have a 'best suit' made... he said they literally only had a good suit and an old one for casual wear... and hand me downs. The prominent tailor in Swansea back then was Sidney Heath, I think they mostly sold off the peg with alterations but would have done bespoke I'd imagine. I picked up a cravat off ebay with a label from Sidney Heaths. The shop closed in the 70s or possibly very early 80s. Great video Alex. Thoroughly enjoyed.

13:40 By Edward VII, I presume you mean Albert Edward who was Queen Victoria's son and had Henry Poole make a dinner jacket for stag affairs later to be known as the black tie dress code. The Duke of Windsor/Edward VIII is his grandson. (Would love to know who his tailor was!)

Was on the Row in May this year (I was at the World Shoe Trunk Show)! Was nice to go into Gaziano and Girling and see their shoes (yes, the only shoemaker on the Row). Was Surprised you didn't mention The Beatles connection to Savile Row - Apple Corps building at 3 Savile Row, the rooftop gig location. What I really like to see is the view below street level to the tailoring workshop - where the real work takes place. Whenever I'm in the capital - I walk down the Row 🙂 Tony

Dear Ash thank you for your Savile Row history lesson it was fascinating and enlightening . I especially liked your closing piece about the expense and the likely hood of us mere common folk ever commissioning such garments . The thing you have unlike some of your contemporaries is a realistic view of the world unlike some who were born to it or assumed it as if by some Devine right . I like you am on a sartorial trajectory that require thought patience and thrift I use a mixture of eBay , thrift shops and made to measure when I can afford such luxuries . I am extremely lucky in the fact I have s superb local tailor whom has helped me realise some of my sartorial goals . I hope this approach has made more aware of the difficulties of life and its struggles so that I may be a more sympathetic and Understanding human being .

A fascinating insight into (what is for many of us) a different world. "One day", I keep telling myself. As an aside, I was in London less than a couple of weeks ago, and had a stroll around Jermyn St (to top up some shaving creams etc) - I have to say, the levels of service were outstanding, and if someone isn't too busy they do enjoy a chat (to the point I had to excuse myself as my wife had wandered off lol), despite me being very casually dressed on a hot & humid day.

Hello Ash! I have just catch up with this little gem today, seven months after it was made. I was shocked when I heard you say that the future of "Gieves & Hawkes" was in jeopardy, I looked for un update and I found that in late November 2022, the Fraser Group rescued "Gieves & Hawkes". I must carry on buying lottery tickets! Just a question, the place looks almost deserted. did you film this video on a Saturday or Sunday? I was expecting to see lots of impeccably dressed men walking about but it did not happen. Thank you very much for the tour! Regards!

I often take a stroll down Savile Row and it was really interesting to hear the background stories of many of these tailors. I have to wonder how these establishments will evolve to serve the ever more casual way people are dressing now. You already see more casual styles of footwear, such as sneakers, in the windows of many traditional Northampton based shoe shops.

The couple who bought it originally for a wedding had it for sale. I bought it for £200 and paid £30 for the alterations. My favourite suit in my wardrobe, I sometimes wear the jacket on its own.
