I was super sceptical coming into this analysis, not knowing how to pronounce INXS having never heard of them before. That's usual, right? But reading that the song selection here of "Never Tear Us Apart" was a hauntingly beautiful ballad piqued my interest. And now, I need to hear way, way more of them!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to INXS for the first time, performing "Never Tear Us Apart”.

Hi. I am Australian and knew Michael back in the day. I remember when he came to my 18th birthday party along with Andrew. I played guitar so we had a common interest and a few days later were jamming over in their garage. All this before they were Inxs. Michael is missed. Thanks for reacting to this song. I remember meeting Michael and Mizz Minogue at a party in Darlinghurst in the mid/late 80's. They stood out by trying to so incognito, both dressed in bright yellow rain coats with hoodies...Even though it hadn't rained in ages. They stood out like dogs balls. Both very cool and friendly, I talked to them for ages before we all became non compos mentis for some reason...

I’m from Arkansas, but must’ve been Australian in a past life then! 😆 STILL one of my favorite bands. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see them live before Michael died, but did see them on tour w/JD Fortune, after he won Rock Star: INXS to become the new lead singer. It was actually a really great show, even without Michael, tbh. Everyone (myself included) was on their feet throughout the show, dancing and singing along the whole time. It was so much fun! They’re such a tight act, they play off each other so well, they truly are an incredible live act.

My wife and I came from very different backgrounds and when we met we became friends almost immediately. I was 19 and she was 24. We grew to admire each other’s perspectives and fell in love. (I was a metalhead and she loves opera, but we are broadening our horizons and embracing all great music) We have been married for 24 years now. She chose this song as our wedding song. Every time I hear it, the line “I love your precious heart” strikes me. That’s what we found the most beautiful about each other. Funny, at the time, I thought it was a strange song to choose but I realize she made a brilliant choice every time we listen to it. Not many songs like it being written anymore. Keep up the great work!

@@SaturnusDK Actually the official long form name at the United Nations is still “Česká Republika” in the Czech language (“Czech Republic” in English). “Česko” (“Czechia” in English) was adopted in 2016 as the official “short form” of the name. This is similar to how “France” is the recognized English short name for the official formal name “République Française” (“French Republic” in English) So we are both correct. I just used the official more formal name. But since my KZbin message is not an official government document, your use of Czechia is more appropriate. Thanks for the correction.

Well, when your sexual fetish is auto-asphyxiation, and you do it alone, there is almost an inevitability to how he died, and we are most sexually active and vigorous when young. Putting a stragulation device around your neck until you lose consciousness, or putting a plastic bag over your head are extremely risky, and these are the sort of things these guys do. Nothing to do with the good die young. In this case you could easily say the bad and risky die young.

The band I sung with did a support with INXS on the last leg of their Shabooh Shoobah tour of Oz in 1982, before they headed to the US for the first time. There was something about Hutch ‐ a presence, a charisma. He seemed almost shy and introverted offstage. He asked to borrow my tambourine. It was new and cost me a mint at the time. When they took the stage, he became the consummate extrovert front man. Threw my tambourine around the stage and chipped the hell out of it! I still have it to this day, and it survived many gigs since. RIP Hutch.😢

Thanks for the story! Many of us have them but never get a chance to tall them, unless the subject creates the opportunity! I served Leon Russell several of his meals and a short order restaurant in Tulsa, Ok back in the early 70’s, as he would always sit and the end of the counter, or wait till it was available. His driver always stayed in his Rolls out in the parking lot! He was very quiet and didn’t talk other than giving his order to me and I’d ask how he was doing. He was very polite and had that great beard and was the pride of Tulsa other than JJ Cale, though he left for LA back in the early 60’s.

First of all, I can not b 0:53 elieve that you have never heard this iconic classic rock band. Australian rock band INXS was an excellent band, and their lead singer, the late great Michael Hutchence, was a phenomenal singer. His death was a tragedy. To see them in concert was an awesome experience. He hung himself due to depression over constant headaches that he had as a result of a cracked skull that he received from a taxi driver who threw him out of his way for being on a bike in front of his cab, and he landed on a sidewalk hitting the top of his head, cracking his skull, causing him excruciating headaches for the remainder of his life. My favorite songs by INXS are Don't Change and a song that they did for the movie Soundtrack Lost Boys called Good Times. There's two other songs that are my favorites as well, Shine Like it Does and the song Beautiful Girl.

This made Michael upset, and he then called Bob Geldof, and the two of them had a heated argument. Later, upset, Michael took his life.

Musically, this is such an atypical INXS song. They evolved from sounding very new wave to sounding very sort of funk rock with new wave roots. I think Hutchence is probably the greatest rock front man of the 80s and 90s. Charisma, sex appeal, and an actually good singer on top of it.

@@TheCharismaticVoice New Sensation is the song that you’re looking for to get a true sense of Michael’s voice. 'Kick' was my very first tape cassette album that I bought. I had never heard of INXS till I heard 'New Sensation' on the radio. It blew me away! Just an incredible album and an amazing band. RIP Michael... So sorely missed.

We definitely need more INXS analysis videos. Michael was an amazing talent and performer. His passing, like many others, was far too soon and tragic. INXS has made music since his passing, but nothing compares to music with him as their front man.

INXS was a fucking great band but it was tragic in the end.

"Live Baby Live" is of such good quality and great to analyze/react to the live capabilities of the whole band. Lots of material potential there...

I love love love your channel but sometime it's paused soooo much it's almost over analyzed and takes away from seeing you reaction of taking it in an staying in the moment like you use to do. 7 minutes to take in 1 minute of the song in which most was musical. We want to take the ride with you, but pumping the breaks too much takes away from the anticipated shared experience. Again, love your channel

The Stairs is my personal favorite, but really anything by INXS is worthy of attention.

Depending on your mood: 1) If you want sultry, sex appeal Hutchence then "Devil Inside"; 2) If you want teenager, upbeat, fast-paced pop rock Hutchence then "Don't Change" (my favorite INXS song); 3) If you want a soft-toned, quiet concern for those affected by unrealistic social expectations Hutchence then "Beautiful Girl"; 4) If you want funky, harmonica-driven Hutchence then "Suicide Blonde".

I remember when this album first came out. A sales clerk pronounced the band's name as "inksys." The proper pronunciation is, of course, "in excess," because that's the zeitgeist of '80s rock.

The layers on 'Don't Change' and the fact that it's a dangerous earworm song make it a masterpiece! That would be a fun one to review.

Michael was a brilliant front man. Lucky enough to see them 3 times (all in one year) from a relatively small venue in Brighton to the original Wembley Stadium where they headlined. Great days 😊

Everytime I hear this song I think of the movie “Donnie Darko.” If you haven’t seen it, then do yourself a favor and watch it! This song is playing in the opening scene of the Director’s Cut. It’s an incredible movie (theatrical release is better, but the Director’s cut has INXS). On a side note and for extra credit haha, also check out “The Killing Moon” by Echo & the Bunnymen and “Mad World” by Gary Jules. Beautiful and haunting.

How has someone that lives on planet earth honestly not heard this song before??? Are there actual people who don’t know how you say INXS? This is also an extended version of the song. I hear it on the radio all the time. Even my 15yr old knows this song. Mind blown that there are people that don’t know this band. Maybe let him sing the song then go back and talk/analyze. How many movies have their songs been in? So many….I don’t believe these people that say they’ve never heard or first time hearing - literally some of the most famous bands on earth, whatever 🙄
