Fun fact: one of the first books to depict vampires was about a lesbian vampire that prays on woman in the night. Carmilla written in (1871-72) by Sheridan Le Fanu is a tragic romance. This is a whole 25 years before the classic story of Dracula came to be.

Hey at least Dracula existed... And not vampire was much more terrifying.
@MrNickPresley Жыл бұрын
@@ArsenFox Better is subjective, because everyone knows Dracula and outside of a handful of people, nobody really knows about Carmilla at all. But if you really wanna talk about influence, let's take a look at how Nosferatu, despite being a ripoff of Dracula, managed to change vampire lore in pop culture basically forever. That whole sunlight weakness? Vampires didn't have it until Max Schreck got face-melted by the light of dawn on the silver screen.
@jacobfoss7783 Жыл бұрын
@@MrNickPresley I've read the book Dracula and I remember that it was either the sun or a stake through the heart that killed Dracula. The brides of Dracula were killed in their coffins while they slept by Van Helsing with a stake through the heart of each one.
@MrNickPresley Жыл бұрын
@@jacobfoss7783 It was a bunch of people stabbing him to death that killed him. "As I looked, the eyes saw the sinking sun, and the look of hate in them [the gypsies] turned to triumph. But, on the instant, came the sweep and flash of Jonathan's great knife. I shrieked as I saw it shear through the throat; whilst at the same moment Mr. Morris's bowie knife plunged in the heart." --Dracula, ch. 27 He is shown at multiple points in the novel to be able to conduct business normally during the day, but can't use his powers. From chapter 18: "His power ceases, as does that of all evil things, at the coming of the day. Only at certain times can he have limited freedom. If he be not at the place whither he is bound, he can only change himself at noon or at exact sunrise or sunset. These things we are told, and in this record of ours we have proof by inference. Thus, whereas he can do as he will within his limit, when he have his earth-home,his coffin-home, his hellhome, the place unhallowed, as we saw when he went to the grave of the suicide at Whitby, still at other time he can only change when the time come. " Noon, sunrise, or sunset. Daylight only weakens him.

Except that the lyrics of the song aren't about vampire's at all, they are about being in love with the night itself, which is personified as a woman as a poetic allegory. Literally nothing about vampires or bloodsucking in there at all. (Though Justine isn't the first to underlay that song with vampire art).
