Somehow their brains make a connection with something they said/ speaking in general with causing whatever the bad was. Your brain files this as an acceptable reaction to something bad happening, so as you get older it keeps it in the 'possible reactions' file. Then, something happens, even if it's something you don't consciously acknowledge or recognise as trauma or trauma related, & your subconscious goes 'Oh! We should stop talking, that's the right way to handle this!' It's like your brain literally just disconnects the ability to make coherent noises. It's especially frustrating if you don't know what the trigger is or what will turn the defense mechanism off. You just kind of have to wait for your brain to stop going into panicdoomEEEEEEEE mode & let you speak again.

"Who wants to live forever?" Can definitely be interpreted as the immortality being perceived as a curse. Someone who thinks all mortals seeking it are naive children who don't know the true value of life is its finite nature. A jaded predator trying to find an out to their situation rather than suffering another cycle of life, but at the same time attached enough to their legacy to feel like just stepping into the sun would be a waste of their accomplishments. Basically a desire to die, but to make whomever does it work for it.

It could also be from the perspective of the human. The vampire has grown to live by a routine over the years. Keeps themselves guarded. "But then you wake up for the sunrise" doesn't seem to fit, but maybe the vampire lives in a house with double layered black out curtains nailed to the walls and wakes up at sunrise and falls asleep at dawn because why not? Perhaps they're trying to pretend to be human. Maybe the human is trying to convince them to act more like an actual human, to let go of their strict routine, to actually live a little.

Now for my usual post-listen analysis: Victoria has been established as being the sun to Camille's moon, plus Reinaeiry's other Hozier cover for ViCam was Camille's backstory, so I feel like it would make sense for Camille to have the POV here. In May I Have This Dance, Vices and Virtues, Oops... I Did It Again, and Eat Your Young, Camille is characterized as the more serious of the two, whereas too many songs on this playlist to name characterize Victoria as a hopeless romantic. So, serious and romantic, moon and sun. POV aside, I wonder how much the lyrics actually apply to their relationship. I can see Victoria wanting Camille to take care of herself, or "live right," so that she'll live longer, whereas Camille would have the mortal perspective of, "I'll die eventually, anyway." It would seem to Camille like Victoria is drunk on life because Camille is with Victoria again and Camille hasn't seen Victoria spend decades at a time in mourning. A vampire earlybird strikes me as an amusing twist, but also doesn't seem to apply to the multiple songs of Victoria being active at night. The part about Heaven's gate and TSA: Victoria seems way more flirty than Camille, asking if she thinks of them in bed long before they even get together (Vices and Virtues). So, could this actually be Victoria's POV singing to Camille, or maybe they alternate? I'll finish this listen, then go back. (Listens to the next part...) HOLD UP! "You know, you're bright as the morning, as soft as the rain..." "And the rain, it washes away all the pain 'cause it feels like the sound of your voice. And I'm comforted by the sweet smells of dew because the sunrise reminds me of you." (Immortal) So, THAT definitely screams Victoria's point of view. "If you can sit in a barrel, maybe I'll wait. But until that day, I'd rather take my whiskey neat..." Okay, now that cannot be Victoria. She can wait like it's her life's calling and, furthermore, "I'll love every version of you (Immortal)." I think my biggest doubt about applying the lyrics to their relationship is that the song seems to imply that the singer doesn't think the relationship is working, at least from a literal standpoint (my autism sometimes makes it hard to pick up on innuendo or when characters mean the opposite of what they say). Judging by how much Reinaeiry has hyped and built up their relationship, I wouldn't expect this kind of setback so early in Victoria and Camille finally dating. And the artwork comes across as romantic, kinky, and even more intimate than the last two songs, so I don't get the sense of relationship conflict. Maybe the song and how it fits narratively is meant to be more aesthetic than literal?
