That looks awesome man, you know how to follow all the rules to a T. There’s so many guys up here on the North Shore who have no idea how to lay a random pattern without 4 way joints. It’s pretty annoying to see them pass it off as good craftsmanship when they advertise patios they’ve built online.

Not only are the 4 ways ugly, they’re a weaker interlock and I’ve noticed when I’ve laid them bond will move on you much easier.

I have watched several of your videos already and I feel like I am going to be a pro at installing my patio now. I am going with a 22'x30' patio with outdoor wood fireplace and probably a gazebo/pergola in there somewhere too. I really like these techo blocs and this border you have here. I have looked online and I don't care how none of the websites give me price on these blocks so I know how much I am going to have to put back to get this done. But it looks like I will have to call to find out how much It will be.

Sometimes I wish that I could learn to install using a pattern so I wouldn't need to spend so much time breaking lines and avoiding 4 way joints. Techo-Bloc makes a superior paver compared to their biggest competitor. You can feel how much more dense the concrete is when cutting them and hardly any chipped pavers upon opening the pallets. Iv'e noticed a trend towards smooth finished pavers over textured finished recently.

Patterns can save time for sure, but I still love a random patio. And I totally agree that their pavers are very strong compared to others. I am seeing more smooth being used lately, I like both really but I would want texture on my own patio...

This is another great video. I have watched dozens of them. Thank you for taking the time to create them. I have one question for you. When you lay pavers like these onto the screeded chip stone, do the pavers “sink down” under their own weight and after compaction? I am going a project soon and I need to match the height of an existing retaining wall, much like you matched the height of the sea wall on this project. So appreciate any pro tips you have.

Thank you and it is my pleasure making the videos. When we plan to meet an existing structure like this sea wall and your retaining wall. We account for about 1/4" compaction / settlement. By setting the screed rails slightly higher than the wall you are meeting, it accounts for that settlement. Good luck with your project! ✌

Your work is amazing. I have a question. I want to build a 16 x 20 pavilion and I want a paver floor versus concrete. I also plan on framing a fireplace and a wood burning insert. The framing all 2x4 with concrete board with stone veneer laid in it. Can I build the fireplace framing on top of the pavers? Thanks

Thank you very much, that sounds like a sweet project! I would recommend pouring a concrete footing for the fireplace / insert just to be safe and lay the pavers around it. It would be a shame if the pavers settled and messed up all that hard work. I never use pavers as a footing. Anything that has weight and will be resting permanently, I pour concrete pads.

The smooth you don’t notice a 4 way as much. Which one bothers you more? A 4 way or two small Rec’s put next to each other to make a square? Drives me nuts

Dude! Another beautiful job by you and your guys. Surrounded by God's beautiful creation can't ask for a nicer location to work! Appreciate the extra detail you included about the Techo Bloc pavers. Thats very helpful when I decide on my next project. I was wondering about the "slate" term, and that does describe the top of my 3-piece paver patio I'm doing in my backyard. I like the patterned top vs say a smooth look. I just think it looks nicer with the added detail even though patio furniture may not always sit level or have a little wobble. Also, great job by your wife or whoever edits the videos! I enjoy the music that accompanies the video and editing. That's important to keep people watching! On a separate note, I need a dead blow hammer and was wondering what you recommend? I found a 4 LB at Harbor Freight at a good price but wondering what weight you guys use? Also, having to get creative with filling some larger edge gaps as i saw you used something to fill along wall next to water.... What did you use and what about just using some 3/4" clean sometimes? Thanks brother, hands down one of my favorite job sites! I'm glad going through the pavers was helpful, I know how difficult it can be when deciding on what you want. So many options... I prefer the texture also, gives it a lot of character. We use 5.5lb hammers for pavers and they are made by (ABC Hammers) They have them of all sizes... But they are not cheap. I paid almost $100 for the ones we used, here is a link to the exact one I am talking about 👉amzn.to/3IqwOhf They have a smaller ones also that you can check out through that same link. And yes, you certainly can use crushed stone for gaps like that, I have done that plenty of times as well as used the chip stone for smaller gaps that are to big for poly. But the product I used for the large gap is called Easy Joint. It is perfect for joints up to 2.5 inches. Thanks for the feedback and good luck with your project! ✌

😂 I know what you mean but my customers thankfully know that quality is #1 to me. I charge based on the product I deliver, which includes all the details. I have been told by a handful of customers that I was the most expensive estimate they got. My cost being higher usually comes from more labor / materials than the other estimates because my extra base prep methods and extra time being OCD about everything I do...LOL But they decide to go with us anyway because of the quality they know they will get. I am very blessed with good clients! ✌

This year I’m trying to slowly get into doing pavers so starting off with like walkway patios and that. I’ve been having a hard time on trying to figure out a good number per sqft with everything included

That's cool man, it is a great thing to get into. I do not sell with a set sq ft price. Every job is different in so many ways. The paver projects I do can vary from $18 per sq ft all the way up to $35 per sq ft depending on circumstances. Don't hurt yourself by locking into a set sq ft price. Take each job and estimate it based on everything it will take to complete the job.

Thank you, that's awesome! And not a silly question at all, but yes, the process will be the same. Sandy soil is a great subsoil to have under pavers, it helps with drainage and drainage is key with any paver project. You will be all set, good luck with your project! ✌

No, we lay the pavers right on the screeded bedding stone and compact the pavers into the stone.

How much freedom do you get from your customers as to the border layout on your projects? Dark border pavers end to end or side by side? Certain applications they look mint one way and not the other. I go back & forth with the customers quite a bit on border options and always let them pick their favorite out of all the options I show them. Or even one that they have seen somewhere else. But it is always the customers decision in the end. ✌
