@@liviacotto7647 It's so shocking that people would have that response! A much loved animal is no more replaceable than a child is! Having been the mother of many cats, I've also seen quite a few illnesses. But as long as I was sure that they were not really suffering, and would not feel ready to leave, I too did everything in my power to keep them alive, safe, and happy! At times it cost thousands of dollars. But taking on a pet means committing to them, until their death, or until they are really suffering. Inconvenience is a part of that, sometimes GREAT inconvenience, or great expense. If we are not willing to make that commitment, we have no business aquiring a pet of any kind! I see far too many people around me who dispose of pets, in 1 way or another, when they become inconvenient. I'm just sickened by it! I CONSTANTLY see dog owners who neglect their dogs. In fact it seems like most dog owners completely neglect their training and proper socialization. That is SO unfair to the poor dogs, but the owners have not ever given the needs of the dogs a single thought. They've only considerred what the dogs can do FOR THEM! Blesss you and every caring animal owner like you! We do not actually own them. As a group, we humans have denied the animals their natural surroundings and lives, and so WE OWE IT TO THEM to provide as close to it and as happy a life as we can possibly give them. ❤❤❤

I believe it is one of the great failings of our culture that our default setting is to view those with different abilities as limited by what they can’t do instead of valuing all that they can do and all that they contribute. And yes, animals are treated worse in this respect as “property” and as “replaceable”. But those who work with and on behalf of such animals understand that these animals still give far more than they receive. Check out the work of “This Old Horse” in Minnesota for some great stories of “rescue” horses rescuing people….

idk how i got to this place on YT as many kids i was losing my mind over horses til i turned 14. My family was pretty poor we lived in Russia in the coldest region and i've never seen anyone to have a livestock this far north. The only time i got to touch a horse when my dad asked a herdsman if i can mount his horse for a minute cause it was my dream. There was almost no internet access at that time so i had to give up with my passion since there was no way to put it in anything. Years passed i'm turning 30 this year i have a decent life and a few hobbies but somehow i've never thought of looking up some horse content. But i'm glad your channel was in recomednations for me! I'm so happy to have a glimpse of what it's like to dedicate your life to help these majestic animals. I'm getting to know about the horses that you have and all the resque stories. It's very inspiring and there's no way i could get a look at this without an internet, the scenery in Montana is beautiful, i've never seen so many mountains just casually on the backgroud haha I'm looking up to people like you and one day i want to pursue something that has this much meaning. I salute you from my snow pile and glad to hear that Skeletor's problem has been figured out. I'll stay here and watch til the day you can ride him!

The past 33 years I've been working to purchase my homes one for me and another for my Son and his family to stay in. In the next couple years we plan to sell and purchase a small farm. I'll retire and take care of kids and farm while they then work to finish paying for the farm. Lol. I get the fun job. A pony for the kids a horse for me and raise these kids in the country like I was. It's never too late. As a 55 yr old female who tore 3 right knee ligaments in a car accident in her early 20s...thank you for taking the time and expense to have him seen by a specialist. In my case I had two local surgeries and when the injury posed other complications my parents took me to see a well known sport medicine surgeon in a different state. He fixed and perfected what he could. So for 34 years I have had arthritic changes but no further surgeries. Do I limp and have a few issues on cold rainy days or after riding hours in the car...absolutely. I didn't die in the roll-over accident, after being ejected from the car. It did however place me on my adult path...having finished one college degree the month before...I went back to school. I realized that nursing would be a good fit. I retired last year after 30+ years of having a specialist nursing career. So this story touches my heart. Bad things happen to good people and animals but with the right support, treatment and care...magical things can happen. If Skeletor had ended up anywhere else...he would not be the horse he is today...a beautiful horse with a "problem" leg...so by my standards he is worth it and truly special..as is HIS CLEVER COWGIRL!!

A long time ago I took a neglected 5 year old Swedish / Dutch warmblood mare off the hands of a friend who had lost interest in doing anything with her, including bothering to find her a new home. Similar to what you are facing with Skeletor, after I had her a short time I realized I had to dramatically scale back my plans about what she could do. But after giving up the original plan, we had 25+ really good years together with her doing light to moderate work. I wouldn’t trade those years for anything. She was a real character - a strong willed red headed mare who became the Alpha in every herd she met. She eventually came to trust me & to trust that I wouldn’t ask her to do things that hurt her. We figured out what she could do well, and we just did that. She lived to be 30 before we lost her. So you have my strong encouragement to do as you are doing and take the time to let things unfold with Skeletor as they do. I know first hand how expensive it is. But so what that he’ll never be the dressage or eventing horse you thought me might be. Like my mare, you may discover he turns out to be much much more. All the best to you & Skeletor. 🥰

I am confident that time and rest will do miracles for Skeletor. As a lifelong horse owner at 60 now, I have seen and experienced so much of these types of injuries, either from friends horses or even my own. We adopted an off the track Thoroughbred named Jake that had earned over 350,000 in his racing career, although short, still alot of money. He became my trail mount for about 5 years, and after retirement lived another 10, for a total of 26 years of life. We did have to inject his hocks once a year, and that gave him great relief and he was able to be used for my grandchildren to learn on. You do a wonderful job with your animals, so very glad I found your channel. 💕

I got other vet opinions, as I believed time would heal along with shock wave therapy. One vet agreed with my research, so I went with his recovery plan. It worked. JD lived large until 27. And he never had another issue. Anyone that has doubts about a treatment plan, go get other opinions. The same as you would do for your own health.

@@kittycuddler5973 I agree SO STRONGLY! It's so irresponsible for people to breed horses just for fun or profit. I can't think of any good reason to bring a new horse into the world, when so many are just being discarded! I'm not religious, but I do think there are a small number of sins (for lack of a better word). They include reproducing of people or animals if there is any chance of their not being valued, loved, and taken good care of until their dying day. I do see some of that on KZbin. And TONS of it at the auctions! The US is grossly irresponsible in the way that most states allow anyone to have any kind of animal, under almost any kind of conditions! The amount of horrible suffering that results is just awful! And the way they allow racing, rodeos, and Big Lick is also despicable. And don't get me started on the lack of gun laws! When is the US going to wake up to human responsibilities? It's like 350 million toddlers, all thinking they should all be allowed to do anything they please! It's just like a bad movie!

Few people can understand that a horse's value is not solely based on his soundness. My guy was not riding sound and he was the perfect horse for me. His personality was bright and cheerful, a total whackadoodle, with a gorgeous coat color while his body was a freaking trainwreck. He had a horrific injury in his younger years that landed him in the kill pens, but that personality and sparkly good looks got him out and kept giving him a chance to finally land in my backyard. Pretty sure he had 3 stops after the kill pen before he came to me. Skeletor may never be 100% sound, but he will be valued and loved for who he is and given every opportunity to remain comfortable and content while he is in CC's care.

So his future will be less athletic but he will have his horse friends, Huckleberry, and toys. Unfortunate that his immediate future is less active but he has his owner in his corner and many years ahead. Best part to the vet visit is a much better understanding of his condition. Well done. Where I’m from there is an old farmers’ adage … ‘Where there’s livestock, there’s dead stock!’ Hyperbolic perhaps, but a useful reminder of both the role of chance … and the obligation we have as livestock managers to take care of our animals in THEIR best interests. And that can mean things like euthanasia sometimes. Fifteen years after I allowed the first cow I owned to have one more calf at about age 14 … I still remember her discomfort as she suffered with arthritis late in the pregnancy. She got a couple of quite expensive cortisone shots, then after she had another healthy calf and fed it for a few weeks … I did what I should have done 12 months before. But it’s never easy. I have another calf right now that I’m worried about. A clear head and good vet care are a constant obligation!

What a painful decision to have to make! But it's better to have somebody that loves them make it than it is for them to suffer! I'm grateful that I was able to say goodbye to my last cat. I won't get another one, because I might not outlive them, and then what would happen to them? It wouldn't be fair to them, so I'm living alone now. I'm sad and lonely, but I do have more freedom than I have ever had before to come and go for weeks at a time! No worries about whether or not the person I chose to care for them is really doing it right! Before I could only stay away for 3 nights maximum. So it's not all bad. And I have wonderful memories of my babies! ❤❤❤

I watch another horse channel, Black Horses, a sanctuary for Friesians. They took in a 5 yr old called Nero. He was classed as a dangerous horse and would've been put down if Black Horses didn't take him in. They knew he had a bad hock, and eventually his hock was fused. He's now on rehab, and is such a cheeky boy - he likes rock climbing, destroying gates and ferociously eating hayballs 😁 The day he arrived at the farm, there was a rainbow that ended at the field just below the farmhouse so He's our 🌈 boy. His rehab - up to 12 months

Hate to say wonderful news but the fact the vet didn't discuss euthanasia is great. God bless you for your commitment to Skelator! May he take to your treatment in the future and live long.

@@TheCleverCowgirl did he give you a rough time line on how long it would be before you'd be able to back him?

I was reading just tonight about an herb that may or may not help Skeletor.. it's called burdock. It is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial antioxidant. If you don't know about it you might want to look it up. Could help.

Skeletor has landed in the perfect home. Had he gone to a performance home, his future would look pretty dim and he may have ended up back at an auction or worse.

I'm clearly a Skeletor fan, and am very relieved that he can be re-habed to ride-able and most important, be comfortable. Thank you so much for showing the x-rays, what normal looks like and then what's going on with Skeletor. I never got to see those things with the off-track Thoroughbred I helped re-hab, as at the time I didn't own him. I walked him on a lead for a solid year before I could ever get on him, then another 7-8 months of riding at a walk and working up to a trot, then canter, etc. . Eventually we got there. One thing my horse and Skeletor had/have, that was a saving grace, in all that time was a plucky, impish personality. It was never dull during those sessions. I hope you continue to keep us posted on his progress. And, of course, I wish you both the best. He was lucky to end up in your care!

Skeletor fan #1 is extremely grateful he's where he needs to be. Thank you for taking him to see the specialist. That big boy is going to be a handful when he's required to be kept calm for healing.

God bless you. I know you've been trying to move away from your "day job" and work with your horses full time. I know vet bills, ESPECIALLY specialists can be a roll of the dice. You have a nice sized audience. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
