Yunchan Lim launched onto the international music stage when he was 14. He won second prize and the Chopin Special Award in his first-ever competition, the Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists in 2018. That same year, he stood out as the youngest participant in the Cooper International Competition, where he won the third prize and the audience prize, which provided the opportunity for him to perform with the Cleveland Orchestra. 2019 meant more accolades, when, at the age of 15, he was the youngest to win Korea’s IsangYun International Competition, where he also took home two special prizes.
Now just 18, he has performed across South Korea-including with the Korean Orchestra Festival, Korea Symphony, Suwon Philharmonic, and Busan Philharmonic Orchestras, among others-as well as in Madrid, at the invitation of the Korea Cultural Center in Spain. He also participated in the recording of “2020 Young Musicians of Korea,” organized by the Korean Broadcasting System and released that November.
A native of Siheung, Yunchan currently studies at the Korea National University of Arts under Minsoo Sohn. Coming to Fort Worth, he says he is “looking forward to playing in front of the warmest and most passionate audience in the world.”

" No living pianist plays like him." That's exactly what I heard his teacher Minsoo Sohn had told of Yunchan before he applied for the Van Cluburn competition. Sohn would convince his reluctant pupil with no interest in competitions that the whole world should hear him playing at 18.Thank God he did that! The rest is history.

Every time I listen to Yunchan play I am transported. He is so at one with the music it comes alive as he plays. In my heart I can't imagine it being played any other way. It is perfect. I know that sounds insane, a lost fan boy... but that is exactly the feeling as his fingers slide along the keys, at one delicately and then powerfully. This is heaven.

His wish is to play all Bach's Goldberg songs in the near future, and I think he is still continuing to study Bach. And in the near future, he's going to play a moving Bach piece with his own interpretation. I'm already very excited and looking forward to it.

배우들이 캐릭터에 한껏 몰입해 연기 한 후에 마음을 추스르기 힘들어하는 모습은 종종 봤지만, 연주자가 작곡가에게 영혼을 바치는 마음으로 연주했다고 해서 90초간 침묵 후 다음 곡을 치는 모습은 처음 봤습니다. 그것도 공연이 아닌 콩쿠르 경연에서요.. 메신저가 되어 작곡가가 남긴 위대한 유산을 청중들에게 들려줘야 한다는 순수한 사명감을 가진 윤찬 군의 숭고한 정신에 박수를 보내고 싶습니다. 라흐 3, 베토벤, 모차르트, 리스트도 꼭 듣지만, 때때로 1라운드, 2라운드 연주곡도 챙겨 듣습니다. 스크리아빈은 들을 때마다 놀랍고 황홀합니다. 👍🏻

처음엔 라피협3번에 꽂혀서 듣다가 초절기교에 다시한번 빠져들고 지금은 라운드 전체를 즐기고 있네요 각 라운드마다 곡들도 너무 좋고 연주는 말할 것도 없구요 스크리아빈곡이.지루하다고 알고있던 바흐곡이 또 쿠프랭의 곡이 이렇게 좋은줄 미쳐 몰랐네요 임윤찬님 손가락을 거치니 모든 연주가 음악에 무지한 저같은 사람들 마음에도 감동으로 팍팍 꽂힙니다

I listened to his Eroica Variations many times here, twice in person in London and Rome and once more via livestream for his Paris concert. What can I say, it’s the same piece but nuanced every time, so charming and mesmerising in every sense - the first time I thought the suite felt so short! The ‘storytelling’ was so coherent, suddenly everything Beethoven wanted to convey made absolute sense. What a joy to the ears, heart and soul!

@vedanth3680 I actually booked his London, Milan and Rome concerts, but he cancelled on us is Milan😂 Yunchan is not planning to come to Europe very often and it looks like he prefers quite intimate venues with great recital repertoire when he does, so we are taking every chance we get! Have already booked Switzerland, Netherlands and NYC Carnegie Hall concerts… you can definitely say I’m a bit obsessed!

그러게요~ 감사하게도 그는. 어느날 갑자기 우리에게. 우리의 삶에.우리의 영혼에. 하늘이 선물로 surprise하게 내려주신 존재인가 봐요. 그런데 이 선물은 신기하게도 마치 여러겹의 꽃잎을 가진 꽃봉우리 같은 보석이라 너무 아름다워 사람들이 탐이나서 겉잎을 떼어봤더니 그 속에 더 아름다운 잎들이 있고 꽃잎마다 색깔과 질감과 그 영롱함이 다 다를 뿐만 아니라 심지와 가까울 수록 그 아름다움의 깊이와 색감의 신비로움이 다채로워서 모두를 매료시킨다고 하네요.^^ 윤찬님의 연주를 뒤져가며 하나하나 찾아 듣고 또 듣다보니 더욱 더 그만의 피아니즘에 매료되고 있어요. 다들 그러시죠?^^ 13세 때의 연주도 넘 아름답고 자기만의 색깔이 그 어린 나이에도 있더라구요. 암튼 저도 윤.찬.림. 때문에 새로운 우주를 경험하고 있습니다~~ 신기하게도!!
