Tim Cahill made his professional debut as an 18-year-old for Millwall in May 1998, and went on to enjoy a playing career spanning more than 20 years before announcing his retirement in March 2019.
Now, as Cahill embarks upon a new career as a coach, he looks back on the coaching influences that had an impact on his playing days in this exclusive CV Stories feature with The Coaches' Voice.
He remembers his arrival in the UK as a teenager from Australia, and establishing his reputation in a young Millwall team that hit its peak when reaching an FA Cup final they would lose to a Manchester United side led by Roy Keane and managed by Sir Alex Ferguson. He goes on to talk in fascinating detail about a successful eight-year spell at Everton, under the management of David Moyes and alongside influential players - such as Mikel Arteta and Phil Neville - who have themselves gone on to become coaches.
Finally, Cahill reflects on his international journey - both at clubs in the MLS, Australia, China and India, and with an Australia team for whom he scored at three consecutive World Cup competitions.
