still coca cola is super strong company. look at their earnings and dividend payout. most of the world drink it. him being supportive of it doesnt mean its weak and he is trying to make it famous. Coca cola is huge. bigger than Apple and Microsoft

The Mountain I agree with you, CocaCola is a strong company. But people should be aware of other people's bias and self interest. Sugary drinks consumption has shrunk significantly and will continue to, but CocaCola is fairly well diversified. Individuals need to be able to think for themselves, most people [only] try to mirror other people. And as history shows, these people will [eventually] end up broken.

My great grandmother handed down stock, the total shares we own are 1.4 million. Her and my Great Grandfather got it way back in the day. One day, my Great Grandmother had a stroke, and being 95 years old, we knew she wasn't going to fully recover. So her treatment per week was around 4500$ for the best care hospice. the Coca Cola stock revenue per week was much more than the hospice care, so for 2 full years, the coca cola stock paid for my great grandmothers care. She passed away at 97. Well my grandmother and grandfather are very..VERY wealthy right now. Lets just hope it stays in the family ;)

The reason he'd never sell a share is because of two words - capital gains. Berkshire would owe roughly 35% on the 8 billion dollars that the stock has appreciated since they acquired it those years ago. So rather than do that they string out the investment forever and hence never have to pay a dime in capital gains tax.

@OceanSprayX 9 жыл бұрын
John Smith Lol, you are completely misinformed. 1) it is not 35%, do your research. 2) capital gains isn't the reason why. The reason is because Coca-Cola is a valuable brand. It is consumed globally and has not stopped losing market share. value investors are LONG TERM investors. Meaning, they keep and watch it grow. What does stringing out an investment forever do for a company? At a time, it will have to sell. Do your research before posting garbage.

@brickcellent Neither does high cholesterol, being overweight, or high blood pressure cause diabetes... HOWEVER, your point sucks because all these things are HIGHLY associated (sugar being a key ingredient) with type 2 diabetes. But saying they "cause" diabetes technically isn't true for any of these things.

When you have the capital that he does you can live on a 3.5% or so dividend.
@CodyCannon11
@CodyCannon11 4 жыл бұрын
So could most people if they reinvest their dividends. You would be surprised how little it would take. $30,000 investment over 40 years reinvesting a 3% dividend with 7% growth each year (a normal regular growth) and after 40 years with no other money added, you would be worth about 1.9 million dollars. 3% dividend of that and boom you are making $40,000 a year. (More than enough to live off of, especially if you have paid off your house). I'm not saying everybody has $30k to start (I sure didnt), but that is just an example. That is also not adding another dollar of your own money and being consistent with never taking the money out. Most people don't have the patience. Start with what you can invest, be smart about it, consistent and be patient, before long you would have millions in the stock market (with smart conservative investments) and you could easily have more than $40,000 a year in dividends at 3%.
@LogicalArtist

@@CodyCannon11 that's one approach. I'd prefer the approach of higher yields like REITs and BDCs. You'd be sacrificing some of that growth you mentioned, as these companies are legally obligated to pay out most of their profits.

@@LogicalArtist I'm seriously considering some REITs myself. In a couple of years of savings though I also wish to purchase some rental properties of my own, another avenue for real estate that can also create huge income overtime, but, that had it's own bad of risks. I would love to hear how your investments improve in the coming years. Keep your head high during these times, I hope you and your family are safe and are able to maintain a stable income. Times are tough for many, my family is blessed right now, and I hope yours is as well, my friend.

@@CodyCannon11 same to you my friend. Buffett is mostly keeping his cash in treasury bonds currently, can't disagree with him there. If I recall correctly Berkshire Hathaway doesn't own REITs, but he has them in his personal portfolio. Due to the tax treatment it is wiser for individuals to own REITs than corporations.

@Jan Norris, at 25 P/E Ratio it is a bit too expensive compared to its value. There is also the factor that coke has become too large. Less than 10 years ago the fall of Lehman Brothers (167 year old company) showed the world that a great company with a great brand still faces mortality like the rest of us. For Buffett, yes, its a good investment since he got in so early, for the young adults who still have a minimum of 50 years in front of him, my opinion is no.
