They re-filmed the beginning because they re-cast Jennifer. And they ended the first movie with Doc coming back to bring Marty to the future as a joke. They had no plans for a sequel. But the movie made so much money that the studio forced them into making one, and they were kinda stuck with working in the joke ending into the story, which is why they bring Jennifer with them with her really having no real purpose for being there. They didn't even really want to do the future in the first place either. And since they figured they'd never get the future correct, they decided to have fun with it moreso than actually making it what they predicted it might be like.

It is my pet theory that Marty's susceptibility to being called a coward is something that happened after he changed his parents' parenting style in the first movie. At the end, he tells George and Lorraine to be nice to their kid if they set the living room rug on fire. We can also see at the end of BttF1 that at 17, Marty already has got his dream truck. In other, he spoiled himself and gave himself the character flaw of reacting so bad to being provoked. It's just a theory I have, but I like it
@jessecortez9449Ай бұрын
Honestly, that's a pretty good theory. I've always heard that it was just necessary for sequels because Marty needed to have personal character growth so the audience could get more invested in the journey. In the first movie, that had no sequels planned, he had no obvious character flaws to overcome so it was just the adventure of time travel and the mess up he cause with his parents he had to correct. Even Doc gets a bit of character growth in regards to that other great mystery being women.

Original Jennifer actor, Claudia Wells, was unavailable for the two sequels (which were filmed back-to-back) due to her mom being gravely ill with breast cancer. 80's movie staple Elizabeth Shue stepped in to take her place. George McFly was also recast due to Crispin Glover not returning because of low salary. This is why the actor who took the role is only seen upside-down and in heavy old age makeup or seen from a distance. Crispin Glover actually successfully sued the studio because they used a live-cast of his face made for the first movie to create the prosthetics used on the actor in the sequel. He was literally wearing a copy of Crispin Glover's face.

The studio refused and Glover was kicked off the cast. The person playing Old George was a completely different actor. Notice how all the shots of George McFly (mainly with his face in view) in this film are actually just re-used shots of George from the first film. All other shots with George were played by another actor with either heavy makeup or long-distance shots so we don’t see his face clearly.

Here's some fun facts: Parts II & III were originally written as one movie but obviously it was too long. Interestingly, the initial ending for the first one, before the big re-write and re-cast, had Marty returning to a 1985 that had flying cars. This was back when Eric was Marty and generally the ending was a rather despairing endnote. George's actor did not return for the sequels; his character's appearances are played by his stunt actor wearing a skin mask of him. Not a fact, but I'm pretty sure the dark 1985 _is_ a paradox because the sports Almanac is brought from 2015 to 1955 where Biff gets rich by dark 1985 but Doc Brown is committed so the time machine is never invented meaning old Biff never goes back to 1955. Or the events in one timeline can be the origin for events in a newer timeline. Such as the time machine being invented in light 1985 but not being invented in dark 1985 yet still having the light 1985's delorean exist within dark 1985.

To be clear, an official comic continuation written by one of the films lead writers implies that the alternate timelines don't just disappear. They still exist, it's just that Marty's and Doc's actions (and Biff's in this film) are determining what is considered the "main" timeline. Which makes sense, considering Marty saw an alternate version of himself in the new main timeline at the end of the first film, something which causes him a bit of an existential crisis in the comics at the thought of basically "replacing" a version of himself into a life he doesn't recognize, especially considering that version of him never came back from time traveling. In short, the time travel rules are mostly the same. They're just simpler.

Had a rough day today but this video was a nice pick up in excitement, there’s something about watching others react to a well loved classic that feels like reliving the experience again. This trilogy is a great one to see how everyone reacts to it, everyone has their own responses but its common theme is that it brings a lot of joy out of everyone. So to have this trilogy with the cocoa couch is uplifting my spirits and thank you for sharing this experience with us, can’t wait to see what you think of the Wild West 🤠

A deleted moment but was filmed was just after old Biff looked like he was having a heart attack after coming back from 1955. What then happened was the change to the timeline caught up with him and Biff was in pain and then disappeared like dust since in this timeline he didn't exist as that version of Biff anymore. It was actually a very heart wrenching scene played well and caused one to almost feel sorry for old Biff.
@zikkeboiАй бұрын
How are you so observant?? It continuously surprises me how many little details etc. you manage to notice on your first viewing of things.
@MrMinoDanАй бұрын
Concerning @25:25 It did affect 2015. Old Biff was not having a heart attack. He was starting to dissolve just like Marty in the first movie since his younger self was shot and killed by Lorraine in the 90s. Sadly that stuff was cut from the movie for time. As for the rest of 2015 being unaffacted....the first movie made a point that the Ripple Effect takes some time to rewrite history or for the present/future to "catch up" with changes.
@JohnRandomness105Ай бұрын
Actually, the scene with Old Biff vanishing wasn't cut for time, but rather because it lost the audience in a sneak preview. I prefer it this way, where we interpret that the final time travel was just too much for his heart.

This is one of those rare examples where a hit movie spawned sequels... that *worked*. I know some people would disagree as there are varying opinions about each, but I've always loved each movie equally. They're all fun in their own way. And I think that comes down to the fact that they put an entire story in each movie. It wasn't "let's write something that will answer nothing and just force them to watch the next episode to get any answers - and then rinse and repeat indefinitely!" No, it was "let's write a funny, fun, compelling story, and THEN let's leave them wanting more at the end." I'm so glad you're enjoying these! Looking forward to sitting down to your reaction to 3 later today!

Great reaction!! Your grasp of this version of time travel It trips up a lot of people! An official book printed after the release of BttF III confirms this, which I'll link in a comment in the next video as to avoid spoilers. I also appreciate your observation about Biff's home life since that tends to go unnoticed. Bob Gale, who wrote the story for the official TellTale follow-up game, spotlights the impact of Biff's absent mother and imprisoned father. Also you're right on with them not wanting to actually predict the future; just having fun with it. Sorry this is already long but this has been my favorite reaction to this movie amongst the many that I have seen; thank you! I know this is already long, but to answer some questions... The 99 was supposed to be fire-trail made by the Delorean spinning in-place a rolled up version of what is normally a straight length on the ground. Good call on Biff, upon return to 2015, having a heart attack, brought on by his own actions, specifically breaking his cane and hitting himself. There was more to that scene originally which shows him slump over sideways and then fade out and disappear. The thinking was that somebody, likely Lorraine, would have eventually shot and killed Biff at some point before 2015, so he didn't exist there. Test audiences were confused by it playing out that way without further explanation so they decided to cut it short, but still wanted to at least hint at his going back ultimately resulted to his early death, one way or another. Again, great reaction; can't wait for the next one!!

The original was supposed to be the only film. The extreme popularity of the film meant the studio demanded sequels. Director Bob Zemeckis, and writer Bob Gale refused. The studio said they would do it without them then. In order to not tarnish the legacy of the original, the Bobs agreed to do two sequels under 2 conditions: They would film the sequels simultaneously, and the Bobs would have the right of refusal to any future BTTF projects. Since they have staunchly refused to ever do more BTTF, that's why there have never been any more sequels and reboots. May the Bobs live to 150!

When Old Biff changes the 1985 past, the 2015 future is not immediately affected because of the Ripple effect. The timeline is like a huge lake and every event is like a drop of water creating waves: the changes are little at the beginning but they become bigger and bigger as time goes by. That's why Marty didn't disappear immediately when he changed his parents'past.
@Paul77ozeeАй бұрын
I think the Delorean was out of time and shielded old biff when he returned to 2015. In the deleted scene he vanishes after exiting the Delorean.

@@ismaelvargas-osiris6108 l know mate. I was just pointing out that he didn’t disappear until he left the Delorean. My theory is the Time Machine is out of sync with time and anything inside is immune from change. The only thing stopping that theory is that Doc looked at the news paper changing while flying above Marty in the Delorean.

Can't wait to see you watch the third video. And yes, it did not make sense that Jennifer was with them going to the future, but as others have said here, they did not expect to create sequels. I do like that they took the fact and worked with it, making it so that Doc having to knock her out with the device is the reason why Marty's son wasn't sedated enough and still entered the cafe.

Thomas F. Wilson who played Biff is a fan favourite at conventions and by all accounts is such a nice, warm and very funny man. He said he actually found it difficult performing the car scene where Biff sexually assaults Lorraine in the first movie, as it was so far against his own nature. He was actually picked on by bullies in school and channeled a lot of their behaviours in playing Biff.

I know so many people want flying cars to be a common thing, but unless they’re completely automated you need a lot of training and paperwork to own one. For example, to own a Taylor Aerocar and use it fully, you need a drivers and pilots license, it needs to be registered as a car and a plane, you need a radio operators license and medical certificate to be a pilot, and because it’s over 5m long when the wings are being towed behind it, in America you need a chauffeurs license, which needs another, different medical certificate.
