This is in my wheelhouse. I picked up 1979 proof sets myself. I also added in 1976 since the 250 is coming up in less than 3 years. They will probably get popular for awhile.

I have bought these sets from the Mint back then and read in the Coin World Magazine collectors and dealers were buying these sets for $2,000 just for the cherry red penny. I am not lying.

I love coins, but I just don't get the allure of spotting these minute differences and that causing large jumps in value. I'm more attracted to the overall designs of coins and not having to use a microscope to tell coins apart.

The differences from type 1 To type 2 on the 1979 is so easy you don’t need any magnification to see it . The 81 on the other hand….

Ben - let’s say you think you found a pf70 penny and want to send it for grading. Do you just send it economy, even tho that tier needs to be less than $400? And then let PCGS charge you more if it hits 70? Thanks!

If you send it in economy and it grades too high they will charge you for standard .

To be honest; I wouldn't send it for variety. Id send strictly for the grade. If it comes back the grade you want, send it back for variety attribution. Sometimes they figure in they're little brains that the pop census is getting padded. My tip to whomever reads this. And a very valuable one.

I have the 79 type 1 swt and 81 type 2. Also, mine have lint on the inside of the proof holder.
