Thanks for bringing back memories. I lived near Boulder in the late 1980's to late 90's It was the Coors Classic that brought me to ride again. I was in my 30's I rode Boulder Canyon but no gravel on 19 mm tires. I still have the Trek 1420 triple with a 28/28 granny gear. It has been modernized with bifters and new handlebars, crank set and mechanics. I hit a rock rolling down Left Hand Canyon at 35 mph. Tire went flat and almost ended up in the creek. I did a loop from Lafayette to Estes Park (Peak to Peak) to Boulder via Left Hand and 36 back to Lafayette. As close as I can figure 83 miles. No cycling kit just regular shorts. Yeah! I weighed 190 lbs and I smoked a pack a day then.

Spent last Summer in Boulder for work. Bringing my bike was one of the best decisions I made. Thanks for highlighting some of the incredible riding around the area! Lots of nostalgia in this video :)

I got to do a ride while on vacation, June 2016, rode from our cabin in Nederland to Boulder by way of Magnolia Road and did part of Flagstaff Rd, awesome riding. Can't wait to get a chance to go back. Hopefully I will have more time to explore more routes....

Mike, great one. Wish it was up last year before my visit. But found some good fun. Superflag is a BEAST. Peak to peak is beautiful and did Pikes Peak. Come visit us in the Okanagan!

Great video/ride. Mike I can tell you weren't to stoked about the gravel especially, the descent and I can't blame you. I'd probably feel the same, but you handled it! Inspiring indeed!

Hi Louis. I've got a whole bunch of things going on up front - speed, av speed, hear rate, average heart rate, distance, time, direction, temperature, gradient and elevation. A nice distraction when the oxygen is thin and the road is pointing skywards ;-)

Great video! Definitely shows the magic of road cycling in Boulder. Makes me wonder why I moved away. Southern California is absolute S**T compared to Colorado, and that's not just referring to the cycling here either. I'll be back soon!

Mike Cotty was that harder for you than climbing Mount Evans ? keep up the great work btw !

I think Mount Evans had the edge, the conditions towards the top at 14,000ft were nothing short of brutal.

I have climbed every CO mountain pass from either direction, except for this ride. What width and type of tires did you all use for this ride which is a combination of road and gravel? 25, 28cm, etc? I notice you are all riding standard road frames using disc brakes.
@TheColCollective7 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie, sounds like you've done some serious exploring! I was using 25c Mavic Yksion Elite tyres front and rear. I'd recommend their 28's just to give a bit more comfort and so you can drop the pressure a touch. Ride safe and enjoy!! Mike

You reckon its gravel bike terrain?Go to Denver a few times a year and would love to do it.By the way amazing video

A gravel bike would definitely feel at home around here. If not a road bike with 28c tyres is going to be ok.

I was using the Mavic Yksion Elite Guard (25c) which give a little extra durability and puncture protection.
