Further, there is little evidence of extensive knowledge by Soviet forces in the extent and capabilities of DetA, let alone any KGB influence on it. And post 1991, we have a pretty clear picture of many of the great achievements by CCCP spycraft, they certainly would have celebrated such an achievement.

L. O. K. stands for "mountain raiding units" it's the special forces branch of the greek army, the term is an echo of British WW2 terminology ( the original unit was part of the desert " raiding" commando) and although many members of those units was also members of many gladio schemes the stay behind network included members from all the greek military branches and they had different operational plans depending on the situation, in sort if an communist government had been elected or taken power by others means they could stage a coup by their operatives taking over the command of the army, and that's what they did in April 1967 after serval false flags operations they launched the coup to" save the country from the communists theat " On the other hand in the event of a foreign invasion and occupation the operatives would had to organize a resistance network mostly from men recruited during their military service with serving or ex members of the LOK playing a major role in organizing and training those groups.. Fun fact at the mountains of Central and Northern Greece people are still stumbling on supplies caches from that period 😏

During the exercise R.A.F. reconnaissance flights overfly the area using thermal-imaging and monochrome photography. Ground searches with tracker dogs are also employed. Results vary, but on one exercise out of 39 established hides 37 were found within the first 6 hours and Burst Transmission signals were intercepted. Well, some of this is still a result of red scare rhetoric and a lack of trying to honestly and soberly understand each other's viewpoints. However, it wasn't paranoid of either side after a devastating war, a shaky alliance of different ideologies and highly militarized societies to not just count on the other side to not try and influence the other with any means neccessary. @@mrmr446 If I had to guess, the US and other Western Allies, soon to be NATO, didn't want a repeat of setting up networks from scratch with whatever competing groups happen to organize themselves, as they'd had to do during WWII. This way, if there was a Soviet invasion, they'd have "reliable" people in place who might know what they're doing, instead of amateurs learning on the job. And the fact that some of them got bored and started eliminating left-leaning politicians and individuals? From NATO's perspective, it was just an added bonus of securing their allies.

I'm actually impressed that some of these "stay-behind organizations" did _not_ degenerate into fascist paramilitary groups.
