A Thousand Times...THANK YOU for this video!!! My relatively new printer (have not even gone through my initial supply of ink!) started not printing in black and I couldn't figure out why. I performed all of the "cartridge cleaning" steps and whatever else was suggested in the printer app. Then, went online after finally figuring out the error code and researched a couple of different videos on repairing the issue. SOOOOOO frustrated that this video wasn't one of the first 4 or 5 that popped up on my screen. After trying to put the printer in service mode multiple times according to the other sources instructions and getting nowhere, I finally gave up in frustration. The printer has been sitting on my desk for a few months now and I finally got so desperate that I was planning to go out THIS afternoon to purchase a new one after doing a little research. Decided to try to fix our printer one last time and looked up the error code again. This time, the same few videos I had watched the first time popped up, but because I could tell that I had already viewed them previously, I went to the next one. THIS ONE!!! Worked the first time. I can not believe how easy it was and how much time I wasted on the previous ones. So very frustrating. THANK YOU for your very thorough explanation and description of what to expect. Great help & thank you! For anyone struggling to get it into maintenance mode, I had to do a hard reset (unplug machine while on) before attempting to enter maintenance. This machine absolutely would not go into "Maintenance Mode" just from holding "Stop" then holding "Power". Did hard reset, plugged back in, held "Stop" then held "Power"...and so on. Worked perfectly after that!

I called Cannon Support after paying $20 fee. They were no help, said my 5B00 error code was not fixable. The only thing they offered me was a 10% discount on certain models of new Cannon printer for me to purchase! Thank you SO MUCH, your instructions worked on my 1st try. Worked 1st time & only video showing how to fix the exact problem I was having with my Canon G1200. Numerous others showed how to remove, clean & replace saturated ink pads but none addressed how to reset the ink pad stats thus my printer was still a brick. This was the only video that gave instructions how to reset saturation % to "0" thus allowing the printer to return to normal service. Canon's solution was to purchase a new G1220 for $200. Thx!!!

A very heartfelt thank you!! In the wee hours of the morning, the printer wouldn't print with proper colour so I topped up all the tanks and cleaned the heads .... but after that - just a symphony of error lights flashing at me, and no print - Grrr!!! Checked the usual - no apparent problem yet still no print. Your video was so very useful, and even though my D = 063.6, I was finally able to get the printer out of service mode and use it again normally. I have a Canon Pixma G3202 printer and this process worked! Thank You!!!!! I do want to note I had to have the printer print aout a new report the 1st time I did not do that and it went back into error mode, so I had to go back thru and after the printer printed d 0000 I had to then print a report! The 1st time I did not do this and the printer still thought the over flow was full. Make sure you print another report after the printer prints the d 0000 level page.

I have a G4510 and this worked for me, although to put the model into service mode I had to press the reset/power buttons slightly differently. Instead of holding down reset, you don't to begin with! You press power (hold it down) and then press reset 5 times. That did the job.

You legend. Also note, you dont need to ink flush. I do it manually with syringes to refill the cap. A standard syringe will fit the holes and you can manually suck in the ink into the tubes. Just remember that when the caps are OPEN, the ink flow is stopped (to prevent it from leaking backing into the thank while refilling).

Yes you can do it that way but most people don't have the syringe handy and a built in function may be easier for them. But the syringe method would make a good video 😊

Yep!. G4600 that had been turned off for about 3 years. To perform a full service I had done three additional things. 1. Unplugged yellow ink container and emptied yellow ink container that had had magenta ink erroneously inserted by completely by inverting my G4600 printer over the lawn, reinverting and filling with water/Simple Green mixture, after letting stand for 10 minutes, reinverting again to empty out water mixture over the lawn again, then and inserting yellow ink ok to quarter height and resealing cap 2. Opening rear door using star screwdriver (x2 screws only) then removing all four completely sodden sponges, cleaning with water/Simple Green mixture in a sonic cleaner for two 20 minute sessions, drying out all four on clothes line over two days, then reinserting all four fitted sponges ok (they only go in one way as a simple jigsaw puzzle) and then reassembling by rescrewing rear panel back on. 3 Removing print heads and sonic cleaning them as well for two 20 minute sessions. Note the sponges have a natural dark grey colour once all the black ink was removed to indicate they are clear again. So after reassembly, followed these instructions by the collegepicker ok to remove the error code.

I have a Pixma G4210 and when I hold the stop button and then hold start, while still holding start as instructed, and pressing stope 5 times, nothing happens. EDIT: I hooked it to the computer, still it wasn't going into maintenance mode. I kept trying and then it decided it was going to work and then I followed the instructions given here and it worked. This is going to sound weird but I had the same problems you dealt with. The black all of sudden wouldn't work. Now I figured there was a pressure issue with pump. So I sucked out out air from the tube on the back. I believe it equalized the pressure and I was right. Black worked fine after I did this.

Hi, worked eventually for my G4510, first it wouldn't go into service mode whilst using the correct sequence. After taking out power cord for 3 minutes the service code sequence worked and i was able to reset the waste counter 🙂

Thank you! This error code is diabolical. It did take me a while to get to the safe mode at first - I kept alternating between powering the printer on, hitting the stop button and hitting the start button again. Whatever I tried ended up turning the printer off. However, I let it sit for a little while - enough time for it to contemplate its bad behavior - and for some reason I was able to get the printer in safe mode and past the first step. The rest of the steps worked perfectly. Thanks!

This video instruction worked for my Pixma G4200. I do not know the actual status of the ink sponge , but it did reset the dreaded 5B00 code and printer is operable again. My printer was new in September 2018. I have since bought a G7200 as replacement but was still keen to troubleshoot the 4200. I will try to weigh in on the future of this machine.

Followed your instructions but green and yellow lights are blinking remaining so. I am reluctant to do it again, fearing I will be digging a deeper hole. Before this event, even though all ink storage tanks are full, I have had a problem with the density of the colors even black. Cleaned everything, print heads, roller etc. but no change. For my canon MX410 these instructions did not work. I followed the video step by step, once the LCD screen turns to a black square, my printer did not print anything. It made some sound and it actually pulled the paper through the printer but nothing was printed. I still have the same error. Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

I have a Canon MX320 and tried this method to fix the 5B00 error message. I got to the point where I press the stop button in order to print out the first sheet of paper, but the printer shut down. I tried this 3 times with the same result. Any suggestions? I did remove the ink pads and cleaned them and tried it again, but still, it just shut off at the same point. Okay - never mind. I just shut off and restarted the printed a couple of times, and the error message has disappeared. Seems like I can print now!

Pixma 2200...worked as advertized & pads were saturated. From another video I learned how to find the free end of the ink dump tube, lengthen it by slipping ~ 6" of an oversie piece of similar tubing (OX tubing from hospital nasal thingy), drilling a hole in the back of the printer case to feed the now longer ink dump tube out the back of the printer & afix it to anything to catch the overflow ink. In my case, because my printer is on a 6" stand, I drain into an old medicine bottle.

I will try a few other things and come back to this. I did as you suggested and turned it off did the press power up and the 5 stop presses and it did not do anything. The lights continued to flash and it continued to display the error code. I know the Magenta is not working correctly and I have been going through the maint steps one at a time. This was the one that uses a lot of ink but I have more so I just want it to print properly. I tried it several times with no results. I will let it set for a little while and then turn it back on. Maybe I confused it somehow. It is a pixima g4210.

I have a Canon Pixima G7020..I can not find the waste pad ion this printer and there are no videos to show it, I can't even find replacement pads available anywhere to purchase. Can you help?

good stuff. It worked on my Canon Pixma G4100. Now, the question is: how do I change the Waste Counter thing???
