I agree, they did No Man's Land during his time, and it was one of the best events in comics, not just Batman line...

The brief mention of the Question deserves a bit of expansion. Quite frankly, of all of Denny O'Neil's work as a writer, his work on the Question monthly series is probably the most personal, fearless and captivating run of comics he ever wrote. The twist at the end of #24 alone (which left a chill in the pit of my stomach that refused to go away for two hours) is argument enough of that. The back issues are available for pennies so go see what I'm talking about!

I'm reading that now. Love it so far. His reincarnation of the character is fascinating. So conflicted, so existential, so human.

A lot of people think Frank Miller saved Batman from campiness. I couldn't disagree more. Denny O'Neil did. Not all his stories or decisions were great, but I thank him deeply for making Batman the creature of the night again. Without him, Batman would be nothing.

Yeah, Frank Miller doesn't really deserve any credit. He wrote one (or two) alternate reality nonsense stories, that were "dark and gritty". Denny and other writers had already taken Batman back in a more serious direction in the 1970s, and ironically, the 90s Animated Series borrowed HEAVILY from that 70s era.

7:53 Denny fired all the main writers and artists of the Batman books up until that point just around Cataclysm, originally they didn't want to fire everyone, but as Chuck Dixon puts it "Denny with his socialist tendencies wanted to share the misery" so all the main Batman writers had to go.

Nobody understands these characters, or how to tell a good story like these titans did. It’s truly sad to see them go, and the new direction of mainstream comic books, and pop culture.

Very true, true comicbook writers and artists are all old now, the newer writers and artists have no idea what they are doing.
