I have been asked about the sheet music and arrangements for this lovely piece. When we recorded it I did not know how to read music. I had the 18 pages (!) of sheet music in front of me and it was all greek to me, since I play by ear. I had to write down the name of each note on the sheet music, and find a way to memorise section by section, until I had memorised each note of the entire piece. We made the arrangements based on the decision that I would do all the crazy runs in the piece on my guitar. The "intro to the outro" towards the end was so challenging to play on an electric guitar that I wasn't sure until I was in the recording studio if it was humanly possible to actually play it, and make it sound good. It took 5 months of practice, many hours a day, to prepare for the recording. I also memorised Paganini's Caprice 24 at the same time, and all the other songs on that album. I had already done the "Zigeunerweisen Op. 20" recording, which was my first classical piece. That one took 6 months to memorise and rehearse. So no, I do not have any sheet music or arrangements to share. If you saw my notes on the sheet music you would just laugh and shake your heads:)

thanks for your music are you planning to learn reading or its ok for you playing by ear?
@sidneybarrett89414 жыл бұрын
You're an inspiration for all us self-taught musicians who struggle with the "golf clubs," as a jazz buddy of mine calls them.
@bebereyes55144 жыл бұрын
Not to be too forward, don't you think about learning how to read sheet music? It would open up a whole new horizon of music for you and not tie you down for months memorizing each note of a new piece.

Hearing Saint-Saens played well by musicians on other instruments like this really illustrates how Romantic-era composers like him birthed the modern music we know today. Well done.

I keep coming back to this video because it's such an excellent example of dynamics that you just don't get to see in her heavier work. Not only technicality but dynamics... not bending a string, but making it cry. Not sweeping the arpeggio, but spitting in your eye.
@thecommanderinchief14 жыл бұрын
Classical is all about dynamics in the fingers, as opposed to metal, where it is all about layers of guitars. It is two completely different worlds, when it comes to that.

It's day two of my viewing your videos, and I am completely blown away by both of you! As a retired session drummer for the top studios in NYC, NJ, Boston, and Bay Area of California back in the 70's. I wish I could have done percussion work for you both. As I listen, I automatically write parts for various drums and percussion and enjoy so much both your expertise . You are a very handsome couple to boot! I hope for a very long journey for you both in music to take away the stress of our crazy world. You have for me, and I thank you so much.

Brilliant performance all round:acting and playing-Craig's cheeky deadpan look-her's sassy and commanding! Gripping performance-technique impeccable-perfect blending of sounds-has the traditionalist fraternity in a spin. Music is about entertainment and this is as good as it gets. He smokes up the 6 string classic guitar-and just for fun, The Commander plays frenetic- blitzkrieg runs on her 7 string lectric guitar- she steers the piece to the top of KZbin in quality sound, performance and entertainment. Well done!!!!

I think you are really brave and one of the most innovative electric players around to simply play complex music like that without hiding behind a mound of overdrive and effects. To play with such a clean tone and to play with high level classical players like Craig Ogden is a real testament to your talent and ability. I would be worried about messing up the timing and dynamics to go anywhere near that! Though from your latest album, the biggest surprise was your voice: a great singing voice, surprisingly high, but ethereal and very beautiful. Looking forward to hearing more - a new fan! :)

@Rakkhun3697 жыл бұрын
My first guitar has a tune-o-matic, but I prefer the floyd now that I figured it out. Having a floyd forced me to figure out how the whole guitar works, so I'm happy I ended up with it. Also the Tune-o-matic doesn't handle heavy gauge strings very well.
@Rakkhun3697 жыл бұрын
Nah, the bridge itself is fine. It's just the combination of the pegged tailpiece. Too much tension and they'll start to pop out, which is an easy fix; but eventually the damage will accumulate inside the peg holes.

You would be surprised how much influence the classical world has in pop music. The most recent example is Maroon 5's "Memories", which uses the structure of Pacabel's Canon in D. It is not a bad thing, but as a classical fan, it can feel annoying that the authors of these works are not credited. It is not a legal thing here so much as an ethical standard that I hope will be applied one day.

amazing !!! ..... as with the lyric, the "interpretations" of the work done are just that ...... interpretations!
