So to anyone stumbling on this video now or anyone who has been on the fence for building it I would highly recommend it. I've played the deck quite a few times since Mitch built it for me and it very quickly became one of my go to decks. I know that Nethroi has a pretty beefy mutate cost but you gotta remember that you will spend your early turns just pitching anything and everything into your graveyard, so yeah it takes a little bit to get the mana but by the time you do you're ready to drop a ton of big creatures and suddenly have this overwhelming board state. Plus if someone board wipes and all those creatures end up dead again then you wait a turn or two and DO IT AGAIN. Its crazy good and very fun to play.

My Nethroi deck is mutate/ o/o etb with counters based. i have all the mutate critters that can fit in black white and green, this makes nethroi trigger non-stop and keeps every thing on the field, and if no one exiles your graveyard, you'll easily have over 30 creatures in play at all times. hard to loose in a 4 way game even with every one teaming on you. But the weakness is graveyard removal, so if no one has any thing to deal with your grave, you auto win.

Not gonna lie, this direction for Nethroi was not what I was expecting. I built Nethroi recently focusing on Aristocrats and using mostly cards in my bulk collection at first. It is powerful! I think being able to have multiple ways to mutate would help get Nethroi's ability off more. I'd be happy to share my decklist for comparison if anyone is interested. But this deck still looks fun! Good job Mitch.

I did a similar thing with zero power walls, but did pitiless plunderer and altar of dementia so that you can mill people, bounce the mutated commander, and re-cast nethroi and the mutate card for a repetitive mill combo. Plus a slow infinite mana combo.

for an extra dollar or so you can also swap out dirge of dread for filth, which is a creature that gives all your creatures swampwalk while in the graveyard similar to brawn!

I built a Brawl Deck around Nethroi a couple of days ago, and I LOVE him. Anything that enters as a 0/0 is a phenominal thing to have with him, and I haven't found much better than Polukranos Unchained and Embodiment of Agonies. One has a repeatable fight effect, the other has flying. Throw in something like a Pridemalkin which will give both of them and others with +1/+1 counters Trample, and it becomes gross. Side note: I really think Nethroi might just be a great Hydra Tribal commander given the right circumstances, especially since no one would see it coming. Honestly I'm kinda surprised that I didn't see Polukranos Unchained, even as an upgrade. Is he that expensive?

I think I have finally found my commander for my secret commander Fynn the Fangbearer deck. I currently have a commander deck with Fynn as my commander but I've noticed that due to Fynn's low cmc and low cmc creatures with deathtouch in green, that I very quickly become the primary target for my opponents. Most of the time, on turn 3 atleast 2 of my opponents would already have poison counters. But with Nethroi I could mill Fynn into my graveyard, along with a bunch of other creatures, but especially Odric and Mogis's Marauder. That way you could mutate Nethroi, bring out Fynn, Odric and Mogis's Marauder and a bunch of other creatures and now they all have Deathtouch, Haste and intimidate. Yeah I think that combo would be amazing to pull off.

I really enjoyed this deck tech. I recently made my own Nethroi deck that focuses on the mutate mechanic with cards from Ikoria. I was also able to build it so that i can use Kaheera, The Orphanguard as the decks Companion. It was really interesting to see a different style of deck and as I said, I really enjoyed it.

I run a nethroi deck and it gets sooooo confusing after a while with all the Etb triggers happening at once. I went more of an aristocratic build though, where I sac the creatures for mana to repeatedly bring them back from the graveyard and let cards like Syr Conrad and blood artist finish off the opponents

I have to say I was REALLY surprised to not see Bonehoard anywhere here. It meshes with us wanting to fill up our graveyard with creatures, and since it has Living Weapon, we can Mutate Nethroi right on top of it. This, coupled with a haste enabler like Mogis's Marauder, lets you feasibly alpa strike someone with commander damage while also letting you go wide at other players.

In my first pack of ikoria, I pulled an eerie ultimatum and a foil nethroi. I then later pulled death's oasis, inditha crystal, inditha triome and Chevill, bane of monsters. Needless to say, I was pretty lucky.

Hey Mitch, here's some spicy tech for you. There's an artifact creature card called Spinal Parasite with power/toughness -1/-1. Because its power is -1, if it's in your graveyard, you can get 11 power of creatures back from Nethroi if you include it in your pile. And because it's toughness is -1, it will kill itself every time you recurr it, putting it back in the graveyard for the next time you mutate Nethroi. Hope you enjoyed hearing this, have a nice day.

I thought Nethroi was just some reveillark combo commander, so I never paid much attention to it. This is the first time I realized it brings back 10 total power, not 10 total cmc. That makes it interesting even for non-combo players. I love gigantomancer so much.

Great deck Mitch. It’s close to where I started before upgrading mine a lot. The only real feedback I have: so many humans in the deck which are all invalid mutate targets. I would trade out a few for creature types you can mutate on to.

You can also throw in the classic Mikeus/Triskelion combo in here for a "panic button" win condition that you can revive both at once with Nethroi. You know, if you want to be THAT person. Hehe I know I do.

I had an infinite combo Karador deck that I swapped out for Nethroi and honestly the deck is basically the same but more consistent. Probably not everyone’s ideal way to play mtg but it’s slow infinite cuz I have to get the combo pieces in my grave, so I feel it balances out.

It's a massive effect and you'll be getting all of your creatures back...almost. You'd then either win or lose your board state, which means boom, cast commander again. It feels weird, but logically, it checks out

Equally, in those colours you have access to cards like Aviary Mechanic, Whitemane Lion, Roaring Primadox, Stampeding Wildebeast, Temur Sabretooth and so on to bounce him to your hand and conveniently leave non-humans behind for the next mutate. As has been pointed out though, once you bring back half-a-dozen 0/0 beaters (and still have space for a bunch of little ETB dudes and the Marauder for haste), you are probably going off. 10 power goes a long way when most of your graveyard is 0.

I don't know, most of that ramp costs 3 mana... Also, imagine self milling more creatures that only keep self milling when bring bak to the field with the commander. I think is best to only use cards that throw in the graveyard only the cards that you need there. Throwing cards from the deck to the gy at random is most of times more damaging that good. By experience I know that Millikin ALWAYS throw to the gy the only cards that you can't retrieve or need the most in your hand. Maybe looting would be best for a deck like this.

Wait, did i miss it or is nethroi the only mutate card in the whole deck? Its hard enough to mutate once with nethroi but if they remove the mutate target, you dont get the trigger to bring all your stuff back. Maybe having migratory greathorn, necropanther and a gemrazer as cheap backup mutates would be great, plus their own added mutate value

Scotty Skips I agree, I think a good balance of having a couple that really benefit on mutating (on to the commander) so you can get more instances of Nethroi’s mutate and then the big boon creatures (like in the video and your mention)

I'd add the caveat that some decks it still makes sense; Ishkanah, Grafwidow or Muldrotha both benefit from having an extra permanent type in the graveyard, but yeah, I get that it's part of CQ's brand, but it's not exactly super cheap anymore.

JJ Gaming you don’t need them, if Nethroi is on the field, and you mutate say gemrazer on a necropanther it doesn’t trigger nethroi.

I know this is eight months late but it was my deck so thought I would chime in. You straight up do not need more mutate creatures to throw onto Nethroi to trigger him again. You would only need that if you wanted to bring back one or two creatures at a time. With this deck you cast out nethroi when you've dumped like a dozen into the bin and bring them all back, its a very one and done sort of deck so you don't really need those extra triggers

Big issue I see: No way to repeatedly mutate Nethroi. In order to get off his effect more then once you need other cards to mutate under or onto Nethroi as it's a "when this card is cast" effect and this deck doesn't really utilize it all that well. As far as I can see You'll get off one mutate and then have to hope someone kills Nethroi or sacrifice him in order to get it off again. Good deck otherwise though.

Kinda what you want to do with nethroi. Mill your deck and get a huge board back. If they wipe then you just do it again. But this deck does have huge flaws and weaknesses. One bajuka bog will ruin your whole plan
