Wow! Near me it’s just gone up to $2/lb, but I can usually get it cheaper at an Asian-owned grocery store. When I first became a vegetarian (about 15 years ago) it was about $3.50 at target, and I found out that was a huge rip-off!

I'm in the US and I find that we can get the best price on rice and dried beans/lentils at Asian grocery stores. We especially like the Indian grocery for beans and lentils because they have varieties we can't find elsewhere. The bulk packs there are even cheaper per pound than stores with bulk bins near us.

It was a big investment up front, but worth it.... 20 years ago, we bought a wheat grinder (it does all grains) and a Bosch. These two quality items have saved me thousands and thousands of dollars. Not only for feeding our family, but our friends and family ask us to make them homemade whole wheat bread instead of buying them a gifts. For our young poor family, we decided that instead of going out to dinner or movie on date night, we would go on walks together (sounds lame, I know). After we saved the money, I got the appliances for Mothers Day.
@TheConscientiousEater2 жыл бұрын
Yes, sometimes making bigger purchases up front can save thousands down the road. Those two appliances are amazing from what I hear! And thanks so much for sharing your money-saving tips. We go on family walks often and it's great quality time. Happy late mother's day for this year!

This was awesome! It's good to see that your prices are so reasonable in Malaysia. In Canada I would have to spend 4x the price of those items in your grocery haul. A block of tofu here is $3.49! Ha! but it's like you said - I also feel fortunate that I can afford to buy what I need and want.

@@TheConscientiousEater I'm in Sydney Australia and I would say about $100 maybe $120. We have had terrible floods and lettuce and cabbage was $8.50. Just coming down in price now. Mainly in case other people don’t have those items in their pantry! I want people to be able to recreate these budget weeks ☺️

ORGANIC TOFU IN LOS ANGELE IS not CHEAP.. like $4 for small amt of pressed tofu.

That was great, in Canada that would cost approximately $108.
